Seven Days Of Rai chronicles the first 7 days of Siargao's developing story of destruction, endurance and the hope of prevailing over its old form. With accounts from surfers, locals, expats, business owners, tourists and volunteers who are also sufferers of the tragedy, it shows a primary outlook of the ordeal that is the Seven Days Of Rai.
This looks like a high quality documentary! Hope the media will pick this up and be shown on national tv for more people to see what really happened on the island and that its people needs continuous help🙏🙏

I very much agree. No more hasty building of structures in siargao. Now everyone must build typhoon-proof structures. Question is, can the locals afford it? 🙏 if not, how can everyone in the island afford it so there is no one that will be left behind?
Of course there’s no hurricane proof house but concrete, if affordable, should help. Definitely no more wood structure. How are shipping containers like? I’ve seen how they’re made to look habitable in tv shows but then again, they might cost more than concrete.

i think after Ondoy, Yolanda , etc. We should all learn to accept and bare in our minds to NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE Mother Nature.
There has been warnings, but most people think "its okay". Thanks God there has been low casualties, but could have been better if all people listened and prepared for this. I wish Siargao and nearby affected cities get back to normal as soon as possible...

Thank you for sharing this well-made video. Odette/Rai was truly a very very strong typhoon. People should build strong concrete houses that can withstand category 4 typhoons and build them away from the coastline, if possible. I think storms are getting stronger and stronger because of climate change. I love my Philippines.

Too bad to see the 1st place I visit in PH back in 92 so devastated. Funny to hear people (local included) amazed about the typhoon! It is not the 1st time this is happening. Siargao, as well as other islands located on the pacific cost has been wildly ravaged by typhoons so many times in the past. Proper constructions are typhoon proof, or at least that should be the way to build when you intend to live in one of the most risky places on earth...
You need money to do that!

I'm not sure why everyone didn't realize it was gonna be bad. When I saw it was cat 4/5 I told my friend that the Philippines was gonna get flattened. I live in Florida so I guess I know what a storm of that strength can do. I'm not surprised in the least at the damage. Sad.

Probably a 3d printed structure homes/buildings could be put into considerations, imho.
hope they build better typoon resistance homes. Learn from the hard lession that best to build safe then cheap.

I'm surprised that the windows and doors were not boarded up. Countries prone to hurricanes do that to keep glasses from shattering especially if people want to stay instead of evacuating. It's so sad what happened but typhoons naturally occur there. We can't be nonchalant based on experiences. We can't prevent natural disasters but we can be better prepared because mother nature is not something to underestimate.
Financial aid has poured in. i hope the money goes straight to those who needs it. But i'm sure politicians will dip their hands in the cookie jar again like what happened during Yolanda.
TBH, Yolanda survivors were MUCH-BETTER aided. I was there. It's almost 2 weeks, in spite of countries offering aid, nothing much from this government has been done except for aerial coverage. Too frustrating.

@@bebeth47 bro you have to understand that multiple islands have been affected by this typhoon. visayas is infamously known as a logistics nightmare. you can't just expect the government to deliver quickly without understanding the scale of the damage and navigation. not to mention the minimal assets that we have won't be enough to cover wide scale operations.
yolanda was just one area so it was easier to provide aid and delivery. odette destroyed multiple cities and municipalities.
It would do definitely help some structures but with most roofs pried open like a sardine can, one has little chance. Roofs could be saved with hurricane bolts that would at least help a bit.

We calling you to address this issue seriously and quickly. We're used to this typhoons since our country is facing and open to the Pacific Ocean but we never experiencing this kind of destruction for last 20years.
Climate change is caused by pollution.
People living in typhoon prone areas should build concrete homes with concrete roofs (slabs), no matter how small, at least the residents are safe from typhoon devastations. I live in Okinawa, Japan another typhoon area. Most of the buildings here, private residences and apartment buildings, are built in concrete with concrete roof slabs. Some utilized Okinawan roof tiles installed securely to the trusses-board. I have not seen any homes built in woods and other light materials.
I agree, but that i a very costly undertaking where the average Filipino makes $300 or 12,500 php per month. Can't buy much with that, what they can do cheaper at least is to install hurricane bolts and help secure that roof from prying open and car port from flying. Also, cut those coconuts on the Eastern side of the house where most storms will be coming from.

The problem is the people didn’t educate themselves how big this storm was . That typhoon was as big as hurricane that hits the middle part of the US and houses get blown away easily . You can see how big it is from the satellite .

Nothing like this ever happened in the Philippines, where it's more like a tornado/cyclone. Weather manipulation must be illegal and considered a terrorist act. Filipinos are used to typhoons. Odette has an unnatural feel about it. One youtuber said that her ears hurt and have to cover her son's ears during the typhoon. Do you think various weird weather controls are being used across the globe by nefarious bullies?
Actually Yolanda in 2014 wiped out the entire coast of Leyte in the Ormoc area killing more than 10K. Fortunately the surge here on this one was not as bad. Stay away from that shoreline.

Given that PH gets hit averaging about 20 typhoons a year, it’s mind-boggling that places like these still have nipa huts as their main building materials. The govt should make this as priority.
You will notice most gov't officials have 2 to 3 mansions and driving expensive cars. While the common pinoy drives a motor. We know where that money goes. Stamp 300 yrs of corruption won't be easy.

Kung bakit mabagal ang response ng mga kinauukulan, kung bakit maraming basura sa paligid na kinalat ng hangin at dagat at hangin sa gitna ng bagyo na naging sanhi ng mga sakit ilang linggo lumipas ang bagyo, kung bakit ang pagtulong ay pinupulitika pa rin, sa tingin ko Hindi na po natural ang sanhi ng mga iyan. @@gapssabuero Thank you for the reply. Now I see your point and perspective and I agree with you. I just didn't like the comment "The greed on Siargao brought the bad Karma". Comments like this will not help your cause. To some people who read and will read that, it means all the people of Siargao, greedy or not, deserved to be punished for what they did and so will not send help. Hope you see my point.
