  • Quorum Revel 80" ceiling fan in aged brass. This fan was the subject of my most recent Mini Spotlight, so be sure to watch that one for more info! Really a great addition to Quorum's selection of large-scale products. Not only is it a unique visual, but it's also priced incredibly well and performance is phenomenal. It doesn't look like it's doing much based on speed alone, but high actually big time cranks out the airflow. Pretty sizable increase over many of the most-comparable 72" models while only being slightly larger. Great overall scale, and they did well with the proportions, given fewer blades. Kind of a less-busy look than the 7-8-9 blade designs, without losing more of a transitional vibe. Really won me over after working with it. I was intrigued by the idea and look overall, but wasn't overly interested just viewing it at Lightovation. Now after seeing everything it offers at such a decent price point, I highly recommend.

Reminds me of a GraceFans (Singapore) HVLS fan, and other similar newer HVLS fans, but scaled down
Always thought there should be a category for these smaller, lighter duty HVLS fans that mount like regular fans. Maybe “light-HVLS”?

Would this be an option to replace the fleet or is it too big?

It is the option formerly referenced. We'll find out if it fits in the next vlog. 😅

@vfandm How do dc motors give ceiling fans quicker spindown/coasting times? Do they have a brake system equipped on them? I've been curious about that for a long time. Wondering how that works.

@@rogerr.7228 It's mostly due to the permanent magnet mounted basically inside the sideband of the motor shell. When power is cut, the field is no longer in rotation, so the magnet is fighting zones of opposite polarity, which slows the entire motor much more quickly. Not really an intentional braking system, it just inherently sort of acts as one. With older systems, the power basically just cut immediately after you pressed the "off" button and you could really see the fan abruptly come to a stop. I'm noticing some newer generations of systems, specifically the Rhine sensor-less systems that utilize the blue receivers, actually maintain power for a bit after you press the "off" button and kind of ramp the speed down a bit before cutting it off completely. That's what this fan does; you can see when the rotation starts to decline much more rapidly nearer the end of spindown.
