    2012 Fiat Abarth - I started experiencing this exact issue three weeks ago and was sickened by the prospect of going to the mechanic at the dealership and having it misdiagnosed, expensively. I just came back from the gas station after performing this fix - worked perfectly! I did not disconnect any hoses though. Thanks so much for posting!

      Yeah, seems that you don't have to disconnet any hoses. It's just the pump itself stuck or clogged and that tapping is enough to do the job

    Yes, it's one of 3 reasons common in 500's. Great video! That is the pump roll-over valve sticking and the car doesn't need to be running to fix. Some people used low pressure air blown into that valve (towards the pump) to pop it open if tapping doesn't work. That one might fill for several seconds on slow speed before clicking off. The other roll-over is part of the tank, where the filler neck attaches. Rapping the side of the filler neck (under the car) might free it. Some people remove the tank top and reach in with a screwdriver to pop it, one owner said his mechanic used a snake down the filler neck. That one will usually cut off in the time it takes to fill the tank neck. The dealer's fix is to replace the tank, usually not necessary. The 3rd is a group-cause, the charcoal canister or one of the corresponding componets. The canister can often last the life of a car but a shorter time if the owner tops off the tank.

      @@alteredtogo3420 Some cars get these. It seems more common to 500s, or maybe because I own one and follow groups. My previous car, a Neon, had similar but went 13 years and 185 miles w/o a problem. It's ok with me. I've known Fiats from previous generations and this one is more reliable, for most peope. (Not me, but most people.)

    Just did this. Took about 3 minutes and worked perfectly. The mechanic wanted to start with a $250 diagnostic fee and then mentioned dropping the gas tank.
    This is great. Thank you!

    I just did this today and it worked! Took less than 30 minutes and I even ran up the street to get gas while I had the seat still off just to be sure before I put it back together. Thank you!

      Good thinking in leaving the seat off. Yeah, after that I didn't have problem for the time I kept the vehicle. It lasted for about a year before I let it go.

    This worked for me as well. I was surprised but I’ll take it! Thanks! The only pain part was the little square plastic nuts holding the screws for the cover plate. When I unscrewed the screws the plastic nuts fell out onto the tank. I was able to retrieve 3 of them with needle nose pliers but bumped one trying to reach it, never to be seen again. 3 seemed to hold it in place though, along with some silicone on the corner with the missing a screw.

    This worked for me. I didn’t even unhook the hose. I just tapped that white container top as instructed. I think I heard something ‘click’ around the 5-6 time but I wasn’t certain so must have tapped 20-30x. Thanks for sharing this.

    This did the trick! 2 differences. I think you did this with engine running, I did it w/ it off. Also, in the video, it looked like you'd left the hose pushed in, but disconnected. I reconnected and all's good. $23 bucks of gas w/ no shut offs WOO HOO!!!

    Ok I honestly thought it was a prank video I’ve had that problem for years I hated putting gas in my fiat, but after giving it some thought I decided to just try it and to my surprise I could not believe it fixed the problem it was so easy thank you very much for your video it really helped me with the stress I had been going through for so long

    Ok, watched your video, thought, this is a scam, this kid just did a video, got a bunch of friends to make the claim it works, then saw another video, that showed the same, except, he plugged the vent line back in, so, gave it a try, and WOW, It really does work, thanks

      Yeah, no problem. They try to get money wherever they can. Most shops recommend this and the other when you don't need it. That is for most vehicles. That's why I go to UA-cam first.

      I think replaing the pump would be the next step. so the whole assembly from the top, but that is just an assumption.

    Why do it when the car is running? Would it make a difference if the car is off? And should you really leave that little hose disconnected? I'm going to try this VERY soon. 2013 FIAT 500 Pop with close to 80,000 miles here.

    • @alteredtogo3420
      @alteredtogo3420  Рік тому

      You can do it while it's off. I was just cold and the heater was on lol. Everyone says that you don't have to disconnect the hose. So I would just leave that part alone.

    HI, I have a Fiat 500 like one you have....I did what you did....My question is do you have to unplugged the small host ? or does it matter? and at the end I see the small host not connected back but you say just to slide it in but not to full connect. it is ok to have the small host to be disconnected?

    • @alteredtogo3420
      @alteredtogo3420  Рік тому

      You can connect it back. It might leak each time you fuel up so It can be dangerous. Just plug it back in

    • @alteredtogo3420
      @alteredtogo3420  Місяць тому

      I just figured that it needed air because the closed system is causing it to get stuck and then stop fueling, but I could be wrong. You could place the hose back on all the way

      The fuel pump gets stuck for some reason. Therefore it has to be released by tapping the top of the system
