Amazing info! Thank you! I've planted a young garden sorrel 3 weeks ago - we bought it from the garden centre. It has grown a lot and I am just searching on how to consume this beautiful green plants and if suitable for pesto. I've seen some people mix sorrel with other wild varieties of greens from woodland. Some people mix it with dandelion leaves. I've not tried it. I may have to mix it with cleavers as I have loads in my garden. We are in the UK, btw. 😍
I absolutely love red veined sorel. It's got such a wonderful lemony taste. It's also beautiful and a great self seeding ornamental for the front yard.
In the UK we have a Buckler Leaf Sorrel, good as a salading, and my Garden Sorrel looks coarser leaved, and makes great soup. That and its relative Rhubarb, forced, and Wild Garlic, in omlettes, are my first tastes of Spring. Your observations of Sorrels liking semi shade, I believe they are naturally woodland plants.
You are the first video I have watched that warns of oxalic acid. Last year I drank weed and spinach smoothies every day and then began to not feel well, dry mouth, frequent urination, bladder irritation and more. On a search I found oxalate information and found it to be my problem. I really cut back on greens as they all have the acid and found it's best to eat greens as you say, in small amounts. Enjoyed the video, and subbed.
If you want some to go to seed take a bit on a pot early in the year look after it then stop feeding it and water it less. It might induce a shoch as the plant needs to survive and its depleted the resources so it needs to do all ot can and creating seed offers that chance of survival. Once you start to see it bolt and go to seed i would recommend keeping up the watering and maybe a feeding with extra phosphorus.. it promotes flowers
Fabulous information, thank you. First time for me to grow this plant/herb and I appreciate the in-depth knowledge you provided on the various types of Sorrel. I'm trying to germinate my tiny Red Vein Sorrel seeds using the paper towel method first, then transfer to seed raising containers with seed soil mix. Reason being is I purchased seeds on eBay in 2019 and I want know if they are viable. I use this method a lot to germinate seeds and it works pretty good.
Wow, thanks for the video. What exactly is a Curly Dock Sorrel ? Been reading about the antioxidants in it being the highest with Quercetin and other flavanoids. Is it the regular sorrel ? It's not available in my country but you inspired me to order seeds of these.
I thought I was the only one who didn't really like the red veined sorrel. Frankly I think not only is the leaf tougher, it lacks good flavor (mine was grown in part shade). Mine was sold as french raspberry sorrel. It has no describable sour flavor to it. Although I cant really taste the sour in my purslane either. Wood sorrel is fantastic (I believe yours might be oxalis stricta as opposed to acetosella which I thought had white flowers (which I have never seen actually). Been dying to try some sheep sorrel but I have not found it locally yet.
It'd be great if more people embraced endemics. In my yard many species such as dock, wild lettuce, lamb's quarters, pigweed, etc. come up and I love to eat them. But then the city comes by and fines people for having 'weeds' and they all get ripped out and replaced with plants, some nonnative and invasive, from the Big Box Store. Good video.
Hello blessed to have stumbled on your video. Battling a disease and heard sorrel is great is there a way please you could send me a plant or seeds would be sp grateful truly. Please let me know I'll be glad to pay for it.

One of the best videos about sorrel that I have found. You got right to the point. Thank you!
I can understand you perfectly. Thanks for the great, thorough information.
I understood you perfectly. Great information. Heading outside now in hopes of finding myself some sorrel. Thank you.

"For a good time with wild wood sorrel- just pinch a yellow-green seed pod! No phone numbers to call.."
Amaranths are very population in Asia and South America. People eat tons of them during the summer.

Helo
Hard to watch without staring at your nose studs.
Almost 90% of the video is sorrel and hands, Linda.
Can't understand you. Too much rattle and scratch in your mike and you talk through your nose..
Sorry about that! I'm using the standard iPhone headphones to record my audio & it's not the best set up!
I also just remembered I was getting over a cold when I filmed this video :p
@@earthlingbrittany I can hear you fine, im on a desk top computer watching.
Bogus. This is just some random rude troll... she is completely understandable. And the "scratch" in her mike were the sounds of nature.
No need to explain I hear you very good. Thanks for sharing.
