- KHJ CarRadio93 Los Angeles - Kim Amidon - Summer 1984. A format KHJ tried a music format targeting people driving cars, with lots of traffic. It ran from 1984 to January 1986. Kim joined KOST about a year after this to host with Mark Wallengren for the long running Mark & Kim show.
This aircheck was recorded Friday, August 17, 1984. The tip is Kim’s reference to the Dodgers beating the Phils 2-1.
Kim Amidon was an instructor at Columbia School of Broadcasting in Hollywood at the time she did this show.

I left LA in 1982 for over 30yrs. Never got to hear the Car Radio format. I think it was good. I have air checks mailed to me of The Boss Is Back, and the final KHJ before they became KRTH am. Are there any better quality air checks of day parts of Car Radio? I have many weeks of KHJ before they went C&W from a Luxman tuner on a Teac 3300. Magnificent quality. Lots of Rick Dees. I love air checks.

Yes! I'll be busy till after the Holidays. I will contact you when I can isolate them. They sounded good til the end. We'll arrange some trades. Do you have any Shamos O'Hara? I'd like to get some of that KHJ last days shared with you. We'll stay in touch. Dee's was hilarious! I also air checked this 1st show at KIIS. When I moved to Houston, I lost interest in making current air checks of music radio. I did, however record some Chris Baker talk shows on KPRC. He was very funny. Also some Astros' baseball as I grew up listening to Milo Hamilton at WIND in the late 50's. Take care

Thanks for this rarity, Ellis. I remember when KRTH was using that synth traffic jingle on the Robert W. Morgan show back in the '90s.
