  • TelescopeMan describes a Signalink (sound card) used to connect an amateur radio to a computer. There is also another popular device called a Rigblaster. Links to these products are shown in the comments.
    Be sure to turn off and or minimize ALC and AGC. On my Flex radio I use the "FAST" setting. On a regular radio very little or NO ALC/AGC should show on the radio's meter. Once this is setup you will be able to work FT8, JT65, RTTY, JT9, PSK31, and a multitude of other digital modes on amateur radio.
    Some of the product links contained in the COMMENT section may direct you to associate marketing sites such as Amazon Associates, and Ebay Patners. If you click these links and purchase the item TelescopeMan will be paid a small commission. Please check out the links below and buy the products and support this channel.

    5 minutes in and I'm done.. I'm not raging anyone, but if you're showing any ALC YOU ARE DIRTY . The very easiest way to set TX to be clean is to put the Signalink TX to full open. Adjust your tx gain for data in the rig to 100 watts ( or whatever the maxim power output your rig is designed for ) on the meter at zero ALC deflection. This can be touchy as little as 1 number between ALC or no ALC deflection. From there turn the Signalink back to full ccw hit the tune in your digital program and bring the power level up to 25% or 25 watts output 1/4 of the transmitters rating to be safe and not kill your finals.. These are 100 % duty cycle modes or close to it.. Treat these digital modes like AM or burn up a good transmitter over time.. This holds true for the amp also if you run one on digital 1/4 of its rated output PERIOD. Do all this in a dummy load or on a closed band.. It's that simple, you can go from zero output to full power ( which you should never do ) without ever worrying about causing any ALC action whatsoever... I still think you should always monitor ALC on the rigs meter all the times just in case something gets moved and not noticed. You'll always see immediately that you have a problem.. I'm no genius on this stuff, I have been licensed since 75 and playing with digital for many many years. I mean no disrespect to the fellow in the video, I just think there are maybe easier ways to achieve a clean signal other than setting at 50 % as a guessing game start point ..

      Jim Mac Donald hi Jim, I was having trouble after installing the wire jumpers. Took me a while trying different software, laptops, and 857 config file settings. Now everything works fine. There was some compatibility issues with the latest software on my Mac so I used an older Mac laptop, worked on it, and was able to get that one working doing the same things I did to the other.

    I search youtube for "Configuring digital interface for LInux OS" and this is one of my selections. I watch your video until 7:53 and you're using Windows. Not Linux operating system. Windows does me no good. This is not your fault Joe. YT is at fault. If the search criteria is not found then "Not Found" should show up. Not other videos that have nothing to do with other computer OS's. Have nice day Joe. 73.

      Well the operation of the Signalink would be the same regardless of operating system it has volumn controll for receive and transmit audio and connects your radio to a computer's usb port.

    Can that fit into that mobile radio the one u recommend and can I use it on my tablet to send pictures and like email with winlink

    • @JoeLalumia
      @JoeLalumia  6 років тому +1

      Not on your tablet-- they sell usb cables that fit the data port on the radio-- USB on one end --special connector to fit the radio (brand-model) on the other end. You can call Tigertronics and ask if they have a connector for either the Kenwood 281a (my 2 meter recommendation) or the TYT9800 my (multiple band recommendation).
      Somehow you would need to run FLdigi on either a PC, a Mac, or a linex computer...... then get the radio sound into the computer... then KEY the radio and transmit the digital tones from the computer to the radio. This is easy to do if radio has a data port and or you have line in and line out on the computer. Hope that helps. Here is a link to Tigertronics:

      Lindomar, para você fazer FT8 você precisa de uma interface e um programa para a conexão rádio/computador. Neste site você encontra um colega de São Paulo que produz interface. Mencione seu modelo de rádio e seu desejo de fazer modos digitais: www.ribradio.com.br/home.html Você pode escolher estes dois programas para fazer FT8: www.jtdx.tech/en/ ou www.google.com.br/search?q=wsjt&rlz=1C1GCEU_pt-BRBR821BR821&oq=wsjt&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l3j69i60j0.2487j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8. I was under the impression the Icom 7300 did not need a Signalink or RigBlaster at all. Check more YT vids about the 7300; I believe you just use the one USB cable.

      NITROGEN Gaming you don't need a signalink for the icom 7300, but they can be connected and used instead of the direct connection. My icom 7200 and my Flex radio also do not need this.

    Why bother trying to connect a radio to a pc when you can get pc radio internet software . You can get thousands of stations all over the world.and they all come through clear , And you can record has well.

    • @JoeLalumia
      @JoeLalumia  5 років тому +5

      This is used for direct radio transmission of a signal usually digital in nature. It is not internet radio. Permits an analog amateur radio to receive and transmit digital signals.

      Malcom James ,well yeah you can get 1000 of broadcasts stations on the internet but most hams will tell you the internet is not real radio...its internet and we use Ham radio to talk to the world..we dont do broadcasts, we can communicate when your cellphone has no connection to the internet like on islands where cellphones won't work
