Never seen someone over-do a song so much and had it been so refreshing! This is super sweet. Its so fresh and new. The music industry needs more drummers like you that are willing to take a risk and explore new and awesome grooves. Keep up the good work.
I've watched so many other drum covers on this song and those video were kinda boring. But you made it all different. You're talent kept me watching the whole video with my mouth open. Incredible !
Amazing! Like always haha! Kinda doing a Phil J inspirational drumming marathon, at 3am in the morning, but yknow who needs sleep when there are all these amazing covers! oh, and still loving the "china hit handshakes!" Keep it up Phil!
Phil you are a inspiration every time I watch you play drums get so motivated I run to my drum set and try to play like you!!! And I really hope you make a lot of more videos so I can entertain myself trying to be like you ! You are the best
awesome man. great play, I mean it really great. different version of this lovely song because the energy inside and spread on your drum show. Nice to watch man. Success for you man. Peace and love From Indonesia. GodBless
I've noticed that in these "extra drums" covers, the cymbal/hat work you do is really subtle but at the same time really complex and honestly, super impressive. It's something that most drummers, outside of jazz, never care to include because it's not a crash or some fancy tom fill. Who or what did you draw inspiration from when you were learning?
+chody whodat Thanks so much! The hi hat is my favourite part of a drum kit :) I started drumming at 3 years old but I wasn't really exposed to a lot of music culture as a kid so mostly I just picked up things based on whatever I would hear, a few drum lessons I had locally, and random cds my parents had. After I got older I started getting to know more bands and drummers - and chad smith, travis barker, longineu parsons iii, and many others opened my eyes to playing the drums with a whole new level of passion. My roots are probably more of a gospel background and that morphed into punk and rock.
Does having your snare pointed at that angle help you in any way and if so, what does it help you with. I have never seen a snare tilted away from the player before.
Can you break down the linear groove you played during verses or the outro. Like is it based off of a rudiment or a specific sticking? I'm just having trouble figuring out a couple parts. But that was super dope man, awesome cover.
Killed it as you usually do man. I was kinda wondering. What does your shirt say? I have seen you wear it in a lot of covers, but never catch it. Awesome cover though.
C00p3rdrumm3r in all honesty could probably do what this guy does. But this channel is full of remixes and extra drum parts as to where Casey (Cooper) tries to match it close to the song with a couple extra fills. This guys just going all out, don't get me wrong, it's awesome. But it's nice to see a song played right sometimes. Although, I really really enjoyed his cover of Jimmy Eat World - Pain.
Phil When you were teaching Parts of Burn By Sexy Ellie You Said not to grab the china cymbal. Aren't you Grabbing it in the video? Don't you cut you'r fingers?
Do you mean how it is tilted forward? Or that it's right in front of me? haha If you mean how it is tilted forward, it's so that the middle of the stick hits the rim while the tip of the stick simultaneously hits the middle of the snare. Some people called this a rimshot - and basically it is much louder and produces a much nicer tone on the snare. For ghost notes I avoid doing a rimshot - but for most snare hits I use that rimshot technique to get a stronger and better tone from the snare :) If you mean that it's right in front of me, that's because if I put the snare on the other side of the room it would be a long run back and forth from my kit to the snare every hit :P
Every time i see a new Phil J cover I smile because I know I'm about to watch a drummer of absolute quality and you never disappoint!

+Matthew Mcsherry Yes, I get your point! But however, both of them are just extremely talented and awesome drummers!
You need to be in some heavy metal band. You'd be amazing
This was an experiment to see how much this song could be over played.
Pete Larson ohhhh snap!!!! Shots fired!
+Pete Larson Lol! Very true, but I, for one, loved it.

Do not attempt to drink straight sugar at home. 😂
What is the Pattern ? It's too fast . It is fucking good!
'Phil J: The Flam King'. Great job dude! I also covered this song if anyone has time to check it out :)
Any further and you can hit the bass drum with your knees.

Take You'r Shoes Off At The Door.
your snare positioning like Travis Barker did Anyway
He uses two sticks like Travis Barker does as well... I think he's trying to actually be Travis Barker. Phil, are you trying to be Travis Barker?
BRADICAL Yes....dang it you caught me
***** But, you good Phil
Do this song next! ua-cam.com/video/vxBDOlvAV20/v-deo.html
Gg
your snare positioning XD why ?
