Lobotomy Corporation is strange because it’s not even in the same universe(s) as the SCP Foundation, rather it’s based off of it. It’s one of the most creative takes on the genre of monster management and monster horror games styled like a laboratory setting.
And it birthed a series that to me, is the most unique world I've seen in a video game with some of the greatest storytelling I've seen for a character driven story. Seriously, their games stories (Lobotomy and its sequels, Library of Ruina and Limbus Company) is INSANELY great.
And the fact that pm was able to fully incorporate the gameplay design to the lore and how technically lob corp is simply one of the technology of the city means quite a lot about how to explore the world and the potential game ideas that KHJ could use for the future games itself.
While LobCorp isn't really "SCP", the game actually expands far more than just "SCP management sim", since we also got it's sequel, Library of Ruina, which expanded the universe and more introduction to the world of The City. i guess the main issue is medium. scp works so well as an online writing project because words, format, and images are all you really need to get a good story and vibe. movies and tv could work although both are expensive and some things may not translate over that well games are the worst off as most scps are written as a story. coming up with gameplay that could fit is challenging although basing it on the standard interpretation of the foundation might be why. the wiki has branched so far in many directions and there are just so many stories and ideas that go beyond the foundation; groups and persons of interest, extradimentional locations, fancy ideas and so on. an rpg fantasy game set during the time of the mekhanites, daevites and nalka a grand strategy game based on 5555 a post apocalyptic survival game set in the bellerverse a space exploration game set in Ad Astra Per Aspera a mech and kaiju fighting game set in War On All Fronts a goddamn 5 v 5 hero shooter with mtfs, doctors, pois and other notable characters the list goes on I really think scp needs to be reevaluated by the public, it's so much more than horror nowadays there are genuine masterpieces of literature within. it especially needs to by the folks who dont actually read from the wiki, regurgitate the same wrong information and know the popular one's off by heart. to be honest it all takes time in time maybe i should have a go.
I could see how a 5v5 hero shooter could work for SCP. Maybe a Class-D character who uses things like SCP-268 and SCP-034 to sneak behind enemies. A researcher who uses a pistol and can bring out a bunch of helpful SCPs like putting on SCP-714 which slightly slows down movement but provides and immunity to taking more then a set amount of damage in a single hit. A guard who has a traditional SMG type weapon and has a more general DPS loadout, maybe also they would have SCP-420-J which would make the screen more blurry but highlight all enemies within a set distance. A medical personal who only has a dart gun as a weapon, but they can heal players and provide immunity to status effects for awhile with SCP-500. And this isn't even going into the potential for some playable SCPs like SCP-076-2.
@@Harbinger_VII that's all very true, you make good points, especially about the medium. It's kind of like the problem with video game movies, which struggle to meaningfully capture the experience of the game they're for because a game is just how it's meant to be experienced. Maybe SCP games are just failing to capture the feeling of the stories because the articles/tales are how it's meant to be experienced. Though Secret Files is really good because of how story-focused it is. Maybe we just need to try for more projects like that.
I highly reccomend lobotomy corporation and it’s sequel Library of Ruina. Lobotomy Corp has a hellish gameplay to me but its story is very good. Library of Ruina also has a very good story but it branches out on its own world and beyond scp/abnormality management.
Limbus Company deserve mention here because it is SCP Foundation like game but focuses on different aspects than LobCorp It is basically about special MTF squad with SCP assets, investigating, fighting and collecting SCP on field, exploring SCP facilities and fighting other factions
We're working on an SCP game SCP Classified, one of the main reasons we started working on our game is because we also felt that SCP had huge potential but every game just uses the same 5 SCP's so far we have SCP-2295 "Patchwork Bear", SCP-705 "Militaristic Play-dough" , SCP-3108 "Nerfing Gun" which are usable items ( more planned / work in progress ) then for maps we have SCP-1678 "Unlondon" and SCP-354 "Red Pool". We only really post on tik-tok though we should probably post on more platforms :D. Good video
@@The_Fraud_of_La_Manchaland _"Feel free to write me down in the remaining margins of that nasty little book, if you wish. Those that do not bend... break."_
I would also reccomend to look "Anomaly" DLC for Rimworld. Its not entirely goes into SCP-like territory, but still pretty neat. Also, mandatory project moon line
I'm surprised you showed and mentioned games like Dwarf Fortress and Prision Architect but didn't mention Rimworld, a very similar game which has a DLC (Anomaly) that lets you play a scenario where you build your colony as an abnormality containment facility. It does the same thing as Lobotomy Corporation where it is inspired by SCP stuff but they make their own abnormalities and their rules.
I both hate and love how Project Moon has departed from its focus on "SCPs" and management-type game (you can argue that "SCPs" were never the focus, but still). They made myriad creatures with so much ever-expanding potential to explore, and while it's not impossible for them to still explore it now, so far it has never gone further than them being practically cameos in sequel games (except probably a handful of them which got put in the spotlight (magical girls, oz, and whole Keter shenanigans)). Yet, at the same time, their world-building is a literary masterpiece so fantastic, so incredible, that they don't particularly need these creatures to carry the franchise forward. They don't need to depend on this gimmick, even though honestly there's nothing wrong with it. I dunno, man, I just wish they'd make these creatures more involved in the sequels, I just want to see them more.
Only problem with Abnos are *Spoiler for Lobotomy Corp* They are MAN MADE, infact its even more obvious with specific Abnos that are focused on specific Wing like Shelter being P Corp and Wayward being W Corp
Im pretty sure the birds and nosferatu werent man made though. I think its said The Well(from which all abnos are born etc) and the birds' dark forest are both places in the outskirts. With that in mind theres a good chance we might start seeing more natural abnormalities in later games as i believe there was talk of project moon wanting to create an rpg where you played as a fixer that explored the outskirts
A note on one of the mentioned game mechanics of Lobotomy Corp: The clerks (uncontrollable staff wandering the halls) serve two functions, 1. Each department, besides the one given to the individual agents for their continued service, has a HEADQUARTER WIDE buff whose strength depends on its total remaining clerks. 2. Certain abnos and ordeals [REDACTED GAME MECHANIC SPOILERS] Nice video and glory to Kim Jihoon!
The license is also a big part of it I think. When anyone can reproduce your work for free that cuts into the amount of money you can expect to get for your work, which deters larger "investments", investments of time, people, or expertise, cause why would a seasoned game dev work on a sharealike license game when they could go for the safer option of making their own IP? Also on LC the amount of thematic connection they put into the Abnos is one of the biggest pulls for me at least. White Night, Apocalypse Bird, Nothing There, Red Riding Hooded Mercenary, and Big and Will Be Bad Wolf being the most obvious ones, but even looking into the others like All Around Helper for their shared themes with the characters or Dream of a Black Swan for hints of the world's lore is captivating.
Yeah but scp games don't need to actually just use scps. I wouldn't mind playing more games like Lob Corp, it doesn't have to be strictly scp based. Can just be scp inspired
@@user-dyegbau it's based on scp yea. its just the fact it doesn't really have that much in connection to it apart from being similar and inspired. it's a good example of the scp game most people want. and of course you can make a game that doesn't have an scp, a lot of the content on the wiki isn't focused or doesn't feature one. i mentioned the other things scp has that you could base a game on that isn't as restrictive as the standard view of the foundation.
Roblox Pressure is a pretty well made SCP-inspired game (they renamed it to Urbanshade, so it’s not in the same universe) horror roguelike where the loop is based on learning more and more from the entities
Continuing on the Project Moon topic but also leaving the entire purpose of the video, PM games have some of the best OST's I've heard, like "Second Trumped" is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
7:40 Another game thats currently getting the part of "not being SCP" right, in my opinion, is Beautiful Light. BL is an extraction shooter that is pretty early in development, but the main gameplay loop is retrieving an anomalous object from an abandoned research center overrun by other anomalies either acting as defenses or trying to kill you. While the game itself deviates from the SCP norm by not having any "contained" anomalies aside from the weird objects you're tasked with finding, it still fits the overall feel of SCP through how the different anomalies are designed. The setting feels like one of those post-apocalyptic SCP scenarios that are occasionally seen, like with SCP-5000, where humanity is barely holding on while the world is ravaged by mysterious forces. Its really cool, Id recommend checking it out. Also, Project Moon mentioned
Should check Rimworld, latest Anomaly DLC basically allow transform it into anomaly managment game, where you need to study, contain and survive them. And after it people start to make mod to port anomalies from SCP and Lobotomy to it.
I love lobcorp, tho i would also love a more "prison architect" type scp management game with that same feeling of getting random bullshit with unique requirements to properly management
As many people have said, I suggest playing Library of Runia or Limbus company(which is free), it expands on Project Moon’s universe and gives it and Lobotomy Corporation its own identity and it’s really unique.
the thing about SCP games is that they're all either horror games or tactical shooters. Like a Mechanicus-style strategy game where you control a squad of field agents or a tycoon-style management sim would fit SCP perfectly, it doesn't all have to be horror.
Hello! I plan to be a software engineer, I have a very special place in my heart for SCP! Hopefully one day I will try and make a new and unique SCP game :) I already have ~2 years of experience in game development. Great video
I would not say LobCorp is SCP game just due to the general theme the game carries. In terms of gameplay, yes, it is one of the most delightful forms of SCP management sim, given absurdity of the abnormallities, the fact you can use properties of some against another, and the sheer need to learn about subjects, dispensing manpower at need. But even without counting in the sequels expanding the world and the characters, LobCorp is, in first place, a game about darkness in human mind and the struggle it takes to even start making baby steps to overcome it. The sheer burden of having to keep in check all the intrusive thoughts and the unexplainable feelings, just to make it to the next day. And the fact that one HAS to face it. It's narative, slowly, gruesomely crumbling the ground under your feet, placing you in place hostile, confusing, haunting and depressing; a hell of own making with only one small ray of hope, that the mistakes of the past, while cannot be reversed, can be avoided in future.
Hey I know it isnt exactly SCP and more so half life 1 inspired but Abiotic factor is definitely also SCP inspired with the many anomolies that they have. I encourage everyone to give it a try even if youre not necessarily a fan of regular survival crafting games cause its such a breath of fresh air in that genre and the devs are really cool
I am surprised you don't mention the CC License, which you have to deal with, while making an SCP game. I work in game dev and I've always wanted to see a full-scale SCP game. However, I can't even imagine how to pull that off from development point of view. You need a lot of development resources, while being unable to protect your own work. That is MUCH bigger issue than any lore contradictions. Taking only idea of SCP universe, like "Lobotomy corporation" does, is probably the only way to get a professional team working on such game.
Pressure (Roblox) could count since it bassically if we boil it down, is if the foundation was a corporation focused on profit, with containing anomalyies as a side thing. They often kill anomalyies once they are done with them, the Wall Dwellers for example will be eradicated once they copy their cloaking mechanism and sell it to the highest bidder.
I'm a game dev that have been in the industry for 10 years and I love the SCP universe now I'm starting my own studio and our focus is on our cannon in the SCP universe and games that happen in this cannon I've been working on the back bones for 2 years and it have a long way to go still wish us luck
The reason why SCP games don’t exist outside of first person experiences, is mainly because it’s hard to implement complexity in a seperate field, and I love how this video understands that. ❤
We appreciate seeing SCP: Valravn near the beginning when you were mentioning unique in-progress games! We've got some really exciting news coming up that we think might shake up the SCP game dev sphere as a whole, as we haven't seen it happen before. Looking forward to your next videos on other SCP games! :)
It'll sound weird but Roblox genuinely has some pretty good SCP games. There are a lot of terrible remakes of secret lab, and a pretty much exact copy of containment breach called "anomaly breach", but there's stuff like SCP: Site Roleplay which works more like a Gmod roleplay server where it actually functions as a game first and roleplay second.
abiotic factor is fun, its a survival (not survival horror) game that takes heavy inspiration from the scp and half life universe. There are some unique anomalies, like a guy you can trade food for items. Though the majority of enemies just kill you. The progression is very linear, but the real fun comes from building bases, gathering materials in the setting of an scp type faciltiy. Its very fun imo and I would take a look at it.
Project Moon mentioned bit aside this is a really well done video and It's just really cool seeing other people interested in the same genre of games that don't really exist yet as genres, years ago I wish there was an SCP management game back when my SCP hyperfixation was at it's all time high but the only one was Lobotomy Corporation and I never got into Project Moon stuff until months ago with Limbus Company. I hope to see more videos covering the same topic or updates about these games! :D

I really think scp needs to be reevaluated by the public, it's so much more than horror nowadays there are genuine masterpieces of literature within. it especially needs to by the folks who dont actually read from the wiki, regurgitate the same wrong information and know the popular one's off by heart.
to be honest it all takes time
in time maybe i should have a go.
Project Moon mentioned!
I highly reccomend lobotomy corporation and it’s sequel Library of Ruina. Lobotomy Corp has a hellish gameplay to me but its story is very good. Library of Ruina also has a very good story but it branches out on its own world and beyond scp/abnormality management.
Limbus Company deserve mention here because it is SCP Foundation like game but focuses on different aspects than LobCorp
It is basically about special MTF squad with SCP assets, investigating, fighting and collecting SCP on field, exploring SCP facilities and fighting other factions
Good video
It is intresting how each game gives birth to new ideas based off established cannon, then theres lobcorp

Only problem with Abnos are
*Spoiler for Lobotomy Corp*
They are MAN MADE, infact its even more obvious with specific Abnos that are focused on specific Wing like Shelter being P Corp and Wayward being W Corp
Hmm... they're focusing on distortions, but they're essentially similar in nature.
@@RenoKyrie Yeah I really hated that retcon so much, it destroyed all the world building and potential for alot of the abnos.

God magically summoning 110,290 unamed project moon fans to reply "PROJECT MOON MENTIONED" Whenever someone mentions their games:
A note on one of the mentioned game mechanics of Lobotomy Corp:
The clerks (uncontrollable staff wandering the halls) serve two functions,
1. Each department, besides the one given to the individual agents for their continued service, has a HEADQUARTER WIDE buff whose strength depends on its total remaining clerks.
2. Certain abnos and ordeals [REDACTED GAME MECHANIC SPOILERS]
Nice video and glory to Kim Jihoon!
obligatory project moon mentioned aside I've been thinking this since I played lob corp recently, glad I found this
great vid
Legally derivative works using SCP foundation content must also use the share-alike license which complicates using it for commercial purposes.
you are allowed to make profit off of scp works
its just that that commercial work is also free to be used derivatively.
I've been digging around and this is literally the only non PM comment I could find lol
Missed the opportunity featuring Lob Corp’s MTF - Rabbit Protocol
Roblox Pressure is a pretty well made SCP-inspired game (they renamed it to Urbanshade, so it’s not in the same universe) horror roguelike where the loop is based on learning more and more from the entities

Development, That's why there aren't a lot of SCP games. And theres some unheard like SCP: Retrieval and SCP: SECURITY SHIFT (Which I'm working on).
9:10 The Clerks are in charge of the Regenerator
I'm sorry. But the Project Moon sleeper agents are here.
The multitude tightens its hold.

Вечный свет для Project Moon.

Hey I know it isnt exactly SCP and more so half life 1 inspired but Abiotic factor is definitely also SCP inspired with the many anomolies that they have.
Sleeper agent activated, inserts obligatory "Project moon mentioned" comment.
this is this and that is that
The newest DLC for RimWorld kinda strikes this researching capturing and managing anomalies. Ironically it's called "anomaly"
That's more Marshall Carter And Dark. They actively exploit anomalies for money.
Great stuff! Control is a neat SCP-adjacent game, not at all connected to the universe but the setting evokes alot of the same vibes.
I'm a game dev that have been in the industry for 10 years and I love the SCP universe
now I'm starting my own studio and our focus is on our cannon in the SCP universe and games that happen in this cannon
I've been working on the back bones for 2 years and it have a long way to go still

The reason why SCP games don’t exist outside of first person experiences, is mainly because it’s hard to implement complexity in a seperate field, and I love how this video understands that. ❤

PROJECT MOON MENTIONED. ALL SLEEPER AGENTS GET ON A WARP TRAIN TOWARDS THIS MAN'S COMMENT SECTION
Kim JiHoon summoning 18462939 Sleeper Agents upon a random video
Play Control! It's based on SCP but not called SCP because there's some weird legal restrictions about using "SCP" in your games
Containcorp might be what you're looking for! Check it out(im the dev btw), we haven't officially annouced it yet though
abiotic factor is fun, its a survival (not survival horror) game that takes heavy inspiration from the scp and half life universe. There are some unique anomalies, like a guy you can trade food for items. Though the majority of enemies just kill you. The progression is very linear, but the real fun comes from building bases, gathering materials in the setting of an scp type faciltiy. Its very fun imo and I would take a look at it.
Good music choices, Riskin, Rogal and Chylinski are great video game soundtrack composers.
very good video, agree on all the points about the difficulty of gamedev in regards to the creativity that can be displayed in anomalies
