Seeing Egon Spengler, usually the reserved scientist more about smarts than emotion, lose it, shouting "YOUR MOTHER!", and charging ferociously at Walter Peck while the others desperately hold him back is still one of the greatest moments in this movie.
Can’t recall where I read it but I read somewhere that egon was known to have a temper when pushed far enough. ‘Your mother’ is definitely one of my favorite egon scenes xD
I love how Harold Ramis improvised Egon’s line ‘that would’ve worked if you hadn’t stopped me’. Shows that Harold didn’t just PLAY a genius, he WAS a genius. Res in Peace, Mr. Ramis.
Everyone brought their improv A-game to the movie. Rick Moranis with his on-the-fly depiction of how Louis should move and sound, Bill Murray with his own brand of off-the-cuff schtick, etc. Half the humor comes from lines that weren't in the script but from the actors themselves.
Harold Ramis was a smiley person in real life and interviews. Harold's charm and legacy will live on within the Ramis family for years on end. Harold also made a decision in which he decided Egon should not smile in the movie.
They are all extremely tall and Sigourney pointed that out in an interview. I can’t get over how tall and talented they all are. In other words, they are all very tall and very smart! I know I’ve been around people like that.
I love how many folks are rediscovering the badassery and general endearing awesomeness of Dr. Egon Spengler. He's been my most cherished comfort character for about 35 years, now.
That's the perfect description for him. A comfort character. Hell, for the past month in a shitty stage in life, this franchise keeps the blues away. Comfort zones exist for that reason.
I love the little nuances of his performance, I’ve seen these films a million times but didn’t notice half this stuff until it was highlighted, the awkward grin and twitchy eyelids during the commercial scene had me in stitches 😂😂😂
While it's not in this clip list, I love the short scene during the Hotel search where Egon uses the PK meter, scans up the butler, then gives him a little poke to check he's not a ghost before moving on.
Actually, people who are into physical activities need healthy food, like fruit and vegetables and some stuff like that; smart people, like Egon, eat a lot of junk and unhealthy food bc its carbohydrates, carbohydrates are so good for brain. I don't remember where, but Harold mentioned this "fun fact."
Decades later, I'm still blown away by Egon's subtle suggestive gestures he makes as Peter Venkman runs through billing prices for the hotel manager: *Egon Holds up four fingers quickly* Peter: Four big ones; four thousand dollars. However, we're also doing a special on Proton Charging and Storage of The Beast and that's going to come too *Egon holds up fore-finger* Peter: One thousand dollars.

one of my favorite details about egon is just food choices. always junk food. often horribly sweet. even preferring soda over beer. stuff like that. subverts the small trope of the "smart character" always being a stickler about health. this also includes the part in the 2008(?) video game where he says he's only been sleeping about 14 hours a day LMAO (and you can see a whole ass coffee pot -- and more junk food -- on his nightstand)
Is it just me or do any of y'all notice that Egon is the only one who doesn't DRINK in the entire franchise? I just see him drink coca cola. Smart, in case you have a job off the bat. I actually lived in the same hometown as harold for a little bit, when my family had a roofing company. I got to meet him and speak to him in person as the store was right across from my school. He was heading there one day and stopped to talk to me. That man was one of the kindest and sweetest actors I've talked to as well as the funniest. ❤ RIP Harold Ramis
Fun fact, the firehouse that the Ghostbusters HQ is set in during the movie is an actual Firehouse in new york. It's called The Hook and ladder eight. They even have the Ghostbusters 2 sign hanging up over the entryway for a long time.
