i just love the power in Doc's tone. it's like he's trying to drive his sound into your skull and i love every second of it. i hope i can somehow achieve that same sound someday...
There are recordings of Doc playing all of the charts (with a tighter band) on LP and Cassette, but I do not believe they have found their way to CD yet. It's great to have these up on UA-cam because my Cassette recordings of these charts are pretty much worn out! (P.S. in response to manishafan. . . when I was young I heard Doc before I found out about Harry James. When I heard Harry for the first time (at age 13 or so), I thought "wow, this guy sounds a lot like Doc!")
It is impossible to find a half-a__ed performance by Doc. He never just "phoned it in". He was prepared and did his best no matter the occasion. He outdid even himself on "A song for you". You have to hear that.
One of the amazing things to me about Doc's playing is how he shifted gears musically. I wonder where he got the concept to play like he does on "Sunday Morning" here?
I bought a 1970 model for my granddaughter for when she was in High School Symphony and Jazz Bands. The original silver plate is in beautiful condition and it came with the original case which has enough room for 2 mutes and a change of clothes. LOL.
@windrac I, too, have a Severinsen model Eterna from 1975. It doesn't even have a scratch on it, nor is any silver plate missing or worn. The leadpipe had some pitting, though, from its previous owner, so I had it replaced with a reverse leadpipe. Notes are now magnetically drawn to center pitch, but can still bend notes easily. This instrument is irreplaceable.
There is no question he is the premier Trumpeter of the time. Bar none!!! He may have been the best of all time!
My Momma done told me! WOW! I really miss seeing Doc perform. We got spoiled seeing him all the time on the Tonight Show. 10+ stars!
THE FOCUS AND EVEN QUALiTY ,UNMATCHED!! DOC STOOD ALONE AS THE BEST COMMERCIAL. TRUMPETER OF HIS ERA ,THANKS. DOC. !!
Of his era, of any era
Dr. Carl Severinsen.... Outstanding!!!

Doc converted me from classic to jazz about 30 years ago.

I love that my Getzen Eterna has his name on it.

As does Frank Kaderabek, 20 years Principal Trumpet with the Philadelphia Orchestra
Talking about Harry James, Doc loved him, Miles adored him...Al Hirt thought he was the greatest Trumpet player ever...
I have a Getzen Eterna 'Severinsen Model'. That thing can outplay any other trumpet it has come across... except for, of course, a monet, once.
the bass line has a hint of herbie hancock and watermelon man in there too. the entire performance of Sunday sounds like a herbie tune.
Thanks for putting this up. Doc is such a technically perfect player. Is that his appeal to his biggest fans? As opposed to Al Hirt or Maynard?
Al Hirt in his prime could also do well technically. After the brick he had a harder time of it but still made a come back.
めっちゃベルから出てる
let's see chet baker do that!!!
Great !!! That says it!
