You need to get the TCEC eval for these games. Your eval is all over the place. If Stockfish is +1, it doesn't go to 0 on one move, that would be a blunder for the fish, and the fish doesn't do that. Either it was bullet time format and your computer had a lot more time to evaluate or your computer just doesn't see it.
Hey, I mean right now they're playing another sick variation of the Caro. But with TCEC stuff, a way to maybe make people understand how engines mess up, show how if say Stockfish wins a pair of games, how did Leela play that let Stockfish equalize? I'd really find that interesting. And Leela has also won a couple of game pairs, would love to see a couple of those featured as well!

At 27:58, it looks like black has a fortress with every pawn and rook defended, but theres a setup in which the white king is on g7, and the queen forces the king to the backrank so that it gets skewered and you can trade the two rooks for the queen and then promote a new queen all to say, its still winning for white, and thats why black chose to give up the pawn on f7 in the next move, because regardless of whether black gave up the pawn or not, it was still losing for black
Movie idea: someone is playing chess with a computer (stockfish) and the computer becomes aware of his surroundings and becomes conscious. He now wants to destroy earth. To beat it, we have to play a giant game of chess worldwide.
They usually play into the Berlin Defense, but if you have different time controls, settings, or depth you could get some other results. For example, the default for most engines is to focus on one move in the position. However, you can set the Principal Variation (PV) to 2, 3 or any number you like. Meaning you could even have the engine consider all legal moves in a given position the whole time. This would greatly decrease depth, but you'd get more dynamic play and sometimes prevent engines from missing moves.
I imagine watching two high level robots play chess like this is comparable to when you watch rubiks cube masters solve any position when you know nothing of the cube
I really enjoy these videos! In the first game why couldn't black castle instead of the king move? Not suggesting the engines didn't have a good reason haha but I'm interested
My best guess is that if black castled, white would play Nf6. This is check and forks the black queen. The g pawn can't take b/c it's pinned by the white queen (as the black king is now behind it). Black's only option (if it wants to keep its queen) is to trade its bishop for the knight. Black now has to be very careful with the next move, as white threatens mate with Qxg7--I think the only viable defense is g6. Not sure how it evolves from there (I don't even play chess, just got nerd sniped here). But--the threat of white getting its queen to g7 somehow still exists, the white bishop has a lot of black squares to play with (and any move with it frees up the rook), and black is very underdeveloped so seems like a stronger position for white, at least.
The Alekhine's defense is an unsound opening that gives white a clear advantage, but there's no refutation to it. Stockfish 16.1 can defend with it as black barely against other engines, but Stockfish will usually win against other engines with white. Stockfish is just on another level at consistency and accuracy. TL;DR: The preselected openings are usually why engines beat one another.
The opening. If my understanding is correct, the pre programmed openings force the engines into lines that would be imbalanced or asymmetrical which allows for tactics or weaknesses. If the engines are forced to play to their programming's content from the start, they end up being conservative and play lines that maintain the equilibrium
The Statement about engines have unlimited energy is so true. Zero emotional state changes. Even a great human player will at least spend time recovering from a mistake or a opponents unexpected move...
