- Quick! Pick a number between 1 and 100, now hit play! From Shriekback's 14th studio album 'Why Anything? Why This?' Hear the song that 'Post-Punk.Com' calls a "brooding barstool ballad", the new Barry Andrews penned tune '37'.
I'm going through their back catalogue and there's an absolute mountain of great music and it's all poetry
This band is absolutely fantastic. Love, love, love
We must be watching different videos 🤣
37 listens in a single day
if my browser didn't eat the RAM I'd never go away
Dear Mr. Andrews: Thank you. Your voice and inimitable (though we all try!) word-smithery continue to strip the shutters from the windows in my brain. With much love.
Beautifully put!
He is a genius there's no denying.
if I heard this, I'd rush out to look for a brilliant new Nick Cave song. Not finding it, the last thing I'd imagine that Shriekback, my old beatmaker favorites from 1983, had penned a new album.
I've always loved this band & it looks like I always will. 🤘 ✌
37 years of incredible music maybe
the 37th President of the US was Nixon - take into account the history of his demise and what led to his impeachment/resignation and then re-listen to this song. I am convinced it is about Tricky Dick Nixon.
Counting down the time unit ‘Why Anything, Why This’ drops, it will not take long..
Like me, Shriekback are ageing magnificently!
They join Clutch and Monster Magnet for bands that have gotten possibly better with age.
Mr Andrews, when you held out a hand and lifted me to the Sun (in the Summer of '83 near a beach in California) I have never been boring again. Thank you for making me who I am.
This hits home hard, the darkness the beauty, the beauty & the darkness, how deep these waters run!, Shriekery certainly got better with age. But by gods, what have you seen to do this? Show me more.
This is brilliant and sad and funny. I love these guys.
As I said a year ago.
Thirty Seven:
* the normal human body temperature in degrees C(elsius)
* the number of slots in the (European) Roulette Wheel
* the numer of plays written by William Shakespeare
What a wonderfully 'human condition' number to have chosen for this song!
And:
* the number of years since the formation of Shriekback
+Man in the Radiator - you just made my day! My week in fact. I might even dine out on your rejoinder. Thank you sir!
God bless Shriekback
Awesome! Awesome music!!!!
My USAFA Squadron: 37. Hoo-Ya Hardbody Skyraiders!
AWESOME!
Welcome back Barry!
Fantastic song with a great vid...wow!!
Fabuloso......Grande banda.........
From now on, every 37 year old I know is getting this video emailed to them in lieu of a card on their 38th birthday, with the message simply reading "Congratulations".
I wrote "37" in 1989. After listening to Jam Science for the Infinitith Thyme. Nice catch.
It's beautiful. But you have been always. This is Shriek raging against itself, getting older. I'll age with you.
What a great song
Dark Cabaret at its finest.
As for probable meaning behind this song I would urge you to remember the 37th President of the US was Nixon - take into account the history of his demise and what led to his impeachment/resignation and then re-listen to this song. I am convinced it is about Tricky Dick Nixon.
You might be onto something there
"Keep it all on lockdown till the doves have gone". Hello 2020 :/

DRAGONS
Thought is the shadow of the eclipse of Luna. Samadhi is the shadow of the eclipse of Sol.
The moon and the earth are the non-ego and the ego:
the Sun is THAT.
Both eclipses are darkness; both are exceeding rare;
the Universe itself is Light.
93 93/93
Perhaps the first UA-cam citing of this hugely underrated musician (Barry) - was as piano player for XTC's early live shows in 1978. He pops in at the lower left of the screen at around 16 seconds in:
