This is all about circumference and diameter.
Ignore the clock and consider it as an ordinary circle with a circumference of 12. Whatever the unit ..cm, m or miles.
Mathematically,
C=2d
Where
C is the circumference or length of the circles had it been straight.
d is the diameter of a circle- a straight line between any two points on the margin of the circle which divides the circle into two equal halves.
Then
C=2d=12
d=12/6
d=6
