Oh man Syrup is really good at this game and ESAM is just toying with him. It's literally like One Punch Man. Dude is incredibly powerful, I'd even say one of the best Ness players I've ever seen, but ESAM is just on a completely different level. It's amazing how body after body, Syrup can do things like break ESAM's shield.
You're right about ESAM, totally. Syrup is like SUPER young tho and just starting out on the offline scene. I think that it's expected to see a skill gap here. His creativity with Ness is what impresses me the most. I think he can go far if he keeps playing. He seemed to have a good attitude too at the end and that's so important.

I’ve always been confused by this, in tournament, do both players get the ability to switch between characters as they wish whether they win or lose the last match? Or was this a gentlemen agreement? I’ve seen this happen a lot of times in Ultimate tourneys where the last match winner just switched character, I thought it was only the loser
It's moreso that Esam doesn't want to push his luck with Pikachu. Ness is indisputably top 2, if not #1, worst matchup for Pika. Esam has mentioned how only ever won 2 sets against Ness with solo Pika.
It's actually very apparent that ESAM is doing his best against Ness. Mii Brawler has a better matchup. All the aggression of a fighter without the recovery issues. Not as vulnerable to Ness's combos. I don't think ESAM sandbags. He doesn't care one way or another about his opponent's sensibilities. He just fights as optimally as possible. He's like Mew2King without the awkward. His sense of humor is intentional, his combat is genuine. He is just a hero for fun.

Yes. Ness can control the neutral in the matchup and ness is one of the very few characters that can effectively juggle and edgeguard pika. It's not a terrible matchup but it's pika losing
