A little explanation and some background info about Danse Macabre: The name of the attraction is the name of the song that's being played. It used to be the song that got played in the predecessor of Danse Macabre, Spookslot (Ghost castle). The cat is known as "The unnameable (evil)", which is basically a demon that doomed Joseph Charlatan and his orchestra into haunting the abbey the attraction is located in (which is also why the ride vehicle seats are pews). This cat appears throughout the themed area "Huyverwoud"(Shyverwoods). His "innocent form" is that of a little black cat with one yellow and one blue eye. He roams around the area trying to lure people into his demonic clutches basically. Fun little tidbit: in the missing person cabinet there's a poster with an opera singer called "Cathérine Arbuste", who actually uses sign language in her moving poster. Also as you correctly mentioned, this is a reference to Kate Bush, who once recorded a video for "Wuthering Heights" inside Spookslot and actually had her own "dancing gravestone" inside that attraction.
I was coming here to say that the composition was Danse Macabre, Op. 40 by Leopold Stokowski, I love this ride, the cat's eerie meowing at the beginning sets the mood perfectly
The cat transforms into his evil form as the lighting strikes the heap of instruments (you also hear one strike in the cemetery part of the queue during the storytelling, as that happens a strobe light on the outside of the building simulates the strike -best seen after dark of course) When this happens kitty also lets you hear it's unhappy with the moan-like meow then you hear the doors slam shut as it darks out and the benches get turned to face the organ as the ghost of Joseph Charlatan appears, from there on the musical piece takes over. At the end, before you drop down and the ride calms down to it's zero point you hear 'Vade Retro' been spoken, this phrase was/is used for exorcism, at which point the cat is it friendly (but deceivingly) self again, and you exit through the souvenirshop Backstory: The whole themed area is run by family of Joseph Charlatan, they followed his trail to find out what happened and ended up at the abbey after a journey all over Europe (with the 'help' of their enchanted/cursed street organ _'Esmeralda'_ ) The main characters Otto & Virginie Charlatan (who look like they're from the 1800's) walk around (and have small shows with the organ during the day) to 'warn' you for the abbey and the evil within as they experienced the curse and survived (only just). They settled in the area, set up a grocery in the former tavern, 'In den Swarte Kat' (In the Blacke Cat¹), a 'fast food'/snack stall in 'Het Koetshuys' (The Carriage Stalle¹) which sells spooky cotton candy/candy floss and popcorn, and 'Dr. Chartlatans Kwalycke Zaken' (Doctor Charlatans Quackery Busineses¹) which is the souvenirshop in the abbey itself ¹= Names are misspelled on purpose, as if they were setup in the 1800's when language was still old fashioned, but not too different of modern spelling -hope you catch my drift BTW: you can film on-ride but only with the cam securely fastened, this is mainly because they don't want to shutdown the ride because your cam/phone ended up under the ride in 'the catacombs'. Best to prevent those things... Fun Fact: The Pianist in the 'Cabinet der Vermisten' (Case of the Missing) poster, down to the right, is the designer of the ride: Jeroen Verheij
That is one scary ride. I got freaked out by the window display. Amanda is so cute. I love her child like energy. This park is very interesting. So different from anything I’ve ever seen.
One of my favorite things is when Amanda gets excited about a ride and tries to explain it! The best! Oh my goodness, all these tall Dutchmen make Chris look short!
I would be proud of it too. I definitely see a resemblance to parts of Disneyland. Reminds me of Knott’s when it was free and one could wander and look inside the buildings
Okay.. this trip looks amazing! It looks like your musical journey through the castle ended on a positive note.. a snack bar🎶 The Danse Macabre seemed spooktacular: the famous de-composer Joseph Charlatan, the ride vehicle looking like classic theater seats and the haunted objects.. I want to go on it! 👻 Chris, the reason your carousel animal was smaller is because it was a quarter horse.. you should have grabbed a dollar horse. The enchanted forest is like a stroll down memory lane: stories that I read as a child that I've forgotten for half a century! Thanks for taking us to Efteling.. it really does seem magical! 🖤
They have an accessible room for Danse Macabre just like Finding Nemo Submarine Voyages. On the night it opened, they recreated an old attraction's show scene including the chant of the monks.
If you want to follow the official Fairytale Forest Route, you can follow the official walk where you walk past all the fairytales. Almost every fairy tale is announced on a wooden signpost in the run-up to it, and the walking path consists mainly of red bricks 39:46 Those who know their way around better and are looking for a specific fairy tale can also use one of the many shortcuts, which can be recognized by the paths with yellow bricks 44:17
Price depends on the season and day which you can find on their calendar but it ranges between 38 euro to 51 euro per person. They also have hotels on site. If you stay one night you'll have two days of park and breakfast included. You get a percentage off for that when you book more than 4 months ahead in time. It's an early bird deal.
Did you get to see the new Aquanura; Efteling Symphonica show at the end of the day!? You told us in an earlyer video you didnt see it last visit. So was wondering if you had seen it now!? Btw.. AGAIN a really fun video about this wonderfull park!
Just saw a in ride video of DANSE MACABRE. I was totally thinking Alien Encounter at the start but WOW. The music "Danse Macabre" was written in 1874 by French Composer Camille Saint-Saëns. What is cool about this ride is they can if they wanted to, choreograph the ride to other music. Immagine a Flight of the Bumblebee or Ride of the Valkyrie version.
How cold 🥶 is it? You're going to have to learn Dutch 😂 The moving posters, from the new ride remind me of Harry Potter.. This is not the place to be on a diet ... My kind of place. Chris, LOVE the jacket 😂 Soooo much fun! Merry Christmas, Amanda, Miles and Chris
Exactly what I'd like to know. It's colder here in Ohio than in Amsterdam right now. I don't even layer that much. Gotta be single digits or very windy for that.
To be honest, I like the enchanted forest the best, but on the other hand, the rest of it was kind of boring and that’s not to disparage anybody that likes these kind of things, I like these kind of things too-except I didn’t think this was that great to be honest… Pretty lackluster. however, that being said if you have little kids, I’m sure the kids would probably like it a lot. I’ve been watching this channel for years so I feel like I can give an honest opinion about it. Thanks for sharing!. Glad you guys had a nice time . Happy Holidays!. 🙏💜☮️
Hey Provost Family!!! May I enquire the name of Amanda's White Coat I'm in the market Thank You! Stay Warm...Enjoy your time...Thank You for taking us Along this journey 🙂☺️
Nope I don’t think so Chris isn’t like that. but he is getting a lot of European subs. Smart to do out of the country places. Adam the woo gonna do that all of 2025 too
I would be proud of it too. I definitely see a resemblance to parts of Disneyland. Reminds me of Knott’s when it was free and one could wander and look inside the buildings

I love the forest setting. It actually reminds me a bit of my home state of Ohio.

Reminds me of Santa Cruz wood coaster
Phantasialand Next? You would do 2 of the best parks in Europe!
Disney needs to take notes from The Efteling. "It's been open for 2 months and hasn't broken down." Hmm.
34:03 I prefer The Rolling Stones to either 😛
The trackless rides at Disneyland are from a company in the Netherlands
fun fact, the efteling used to be closed in the winters (20/30 years ago)

Did you count the seats in dance macabere, it's 18 seats, three rows of 6, 666. 👻
