I have been trying to figure our what tubes to change. I have a JCM800, would it work to buy 3x Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7 and 2x Electro Harmonix EL34EH?
Yeah, that'd work just fine if you're getting those tubes for the right price. I'm under the impression that the Gold Lions are a more expensive posh tube. Just remember, the amp will need to be biased for the new EL34's.
I'd say if you're willing to spend money for premium new production tubes, I'd look into buying some budget friendly NOS (preamp) tubes from a reputable vendor who tests thoroughly. Of course everyone wants the Blackburn Mullard bottles that came in the original Marshalls, which have since been all bought up and prices are now ridiculous. But, there are still many lesser known or regarded tubes from the 70's and 80's that can still be had for $50 a pop or even less. Russian, Japanese, American made. New tube production has come up in quality, but it doesn't mean they are made the way the older ones were. A lot of the original recipes and tooling are now lost to history, and some of the materials even are banned and can no longer be used. Of course just my humble opinion..
Is this a Canadian version ? The extra fuses and metal toggle switches are why I ask. Only quick view of the vid so far... so sorry if you answered this in your vid.
I would try a JJ ECC83, the normal one. I don't like it for a lot of things but I find it's a good V1. Also like the JJ ECC83MG, MG is mid gain, which means it has a bit of a boost in the mids compared to other tubes which can be a good range to drive the rest of the preamp with. Again, it's all subjective.
Oh, it'll work yeah, but not the best combination. I don't like the ECC83S in the 800. I prefer ECC803S is V1 and V2, and a Tung-Sol 12AX7 in V3. The E34L are a solid choice for power. I also like the JJ 6CA7 if you want a darker top end.
Seems I missed this comment. What this mod you speak of ? I know what the cold clipper is, but I never really looked into what people have done to it. Kind of figured I wouldn't bother modding this amp.

Yup, it would be Canadian.
Although it isn't about the specific amp in the video, what preamp tube(s) would you recommend for the V1 ("overdrive tube") of a Dual Rectifier?

Hi sir , me i taking all JJ tubes but E34L + ECC83 hi gain tubes.
Admittedly, I'm not sure I understand what you are saying.
Are you referencing something I said in the video ?
@@DATT I wanted to said , is this correct to use all JJ tubes - E34L + ECC83S high gain.
Oh, it'll work yeah, but not the best combination.

We definitely need to play with some tubes with both my 2 amps and I have some special gear for you to play with... tube distortion pedals anyone? :)
What pedal is that ?
@@DATT I have 4 of them. Bricks pedals from AMT. I think you'll dig these
