An excellent rendeering of this sonatina by Françoise Petit. As the title may suggest, this is not a "little sonata" only because of its length, but also because it is based upon small motives and cells, which assembles into larger melodies, with a very imaginative accompaniment. The whole gives the feeling to be strictly architectured without any kind of academism.
Very enjoyable performance, i almost thunk Roussel had a true pianistic touch in the opening movement and then....oops, in steps the orchestral thinker again, even if the coda has an impressive touch of brilliance. Almost a sort of French Hindemith(!) when it comes to piano music, bustling, energetic...but sometimes too thick and dense for maximum effect, something which he'd totally mastered on the orchestra.
