a great way to check is by checking the particle and mesh count in the avatar stats. if any number is ridiculously high then its a crasher. great video btw. very underrated
That is helpful, but sadly people have been using modified SDKs, the source development kit provided by vrchat to allow you to upload to their servers, and the modified SDK hides large numbers that normally point out the fact that they crash, that and some crasher avatars can get away with crashing with as little as a single particle emitter, they use methods to crash that arent always adding as much of one thing to the game as possible.
False, I got ridiculously high numbers in all the stats of my custom avatars, they only have dances and a shit ton of shaders. You can make a crasher with low amounts of meshes and particles lol.
I've actually spoken with quite a few crashers, even have one of them as a friend. A majority of crashers fire mass amounts of particles at you that you literally can't render them which causes you to crash, however there are actually more ways to crash. I was in the black cat one day and this guy comes up to me drops an item then asked me to pick it up, me not thinking anything was a problem proceeded to pick it up. My game froze instantly, leaving me unable to do anything. There are crashers that target specific platforms, I've literally been in a Murder 4 lobby with a player who crashed all the pc players even though they were a quest player. The way that one works is that they make a normal avatar, and for the platform they want to crash they completely mess it up - I don't exactly know what they do, but they change some stuff that shouldn't happen causing it to corrupt. My opinion on crashers is that they're annoying and really shouldn't be in vrchat, but people for some reason find it fun to mess up other people's time.
It depends on why they are doing it, me personally have been crashed a shit ton, i don’t mind it as I crash annoying people myself but even if I wasn’t being annoying I don’t mind, it’s just part of vr chat, sure u can be mad if ur in Deep convo but if ur all infront of mirrors and in those fuckin anime skins (before u say, I watch anime myself) I fuckin hate that Cus it defeats the possibility’s of vr chat

in my experience the negative feelings originate from the spikes in young children that get quests around holidays, and then all quest users get profiled into the annoying energetic young child type. Its a real shame tbh
I am around the toxic community not all quest users get hit only the annoying ones referred to as questies get hit because generally they're annoying squeakers or they're harassing folks...at least that's the kind of quest users my buddies clap and before anyone asks no they do not go out of their way to find and crash folks they just chill until someone starts annoying full lobby
I only crash people is if 1.they crash me, or 2. Everyone is crowded around the mirror and I listen and hear them talking about dumb shit, like one time i joined a world and there was these people around the mirror, it wasn’t a deep convo or anything and that would usually annoy me, but when I saw the way they interacted, and one of them wanted a joker skin, I literally found a world and got it for them, so I don’t do it all the time, just to the really annoying couples that sit infront of the mirrors

I have been crashed maybe 2-3 times on Quest, avatars are all disabled by default unless they're a friend. The crash itself wasn't a laser or sword, and I don't recall speaking with a crasher, the only one I saw was mute . I had to restart my game, and everything went back to normal.
When I was on quest I thought the thing often causing my game to crash was just too many people and too much lag in a public world. What I didn't realize is how many horrible people actively target quest users. Since I've gotten PCVR, I haven't gone a single huge world session without seeing all of the quest users crash before my eyes, all at once. It's even more frustrating than crashing yourself. Instead of blaming it on the game all you can do is sigh and frustration and watch as the person you were having a meaningful conversation with gets infinity snapped out of existance. I've been lucky enough to not have been crashed on PC yet, but it saddens me how many PC players do it to innocent quest users.
The problem with quest crashing is that the most common ones aren’t able to target a specific individual. It just targets the entire lobby via an exploit to my knowledge. It takes one person to find a quest toddler annoying enough for them to crash every quest user in the lobby

Hello, Unity editor user for 7 years here If you would like to largely avoid the crashers, u can do so by not hiding the avatar, but hide the "particle system" for non-friends what they commonly use are actually very easy to make sadly since the SDK doesnt limit that part of avatar element I wont go on detail on how to make them, but its their particle subemitter and layered collission, thats why they avoid swinging it around in order to not hit their own capsule collider.
i remember i was in the black cat one time, minding my own business, then i heard a very loud robotic screeching noise, and then my game's fps dropped to about 7 frames per minute. somehow, through determination, and sheer f***ing will, i managed to turn on safe mode and escape without crashing. still not sure how they do it like that but that's lowkey interesting ngl
300+ hours in vr chat here and i have never once encountered a crasher, even though I have never blocked any person or anyones avatar. may the gods of luck continue to favor me
I've been crashed before. By people who have such powerful avatars that even if you turn off their avatar it can still crash you. My whole pc has been kinda restarted by crashers. And yes I have myself crashed people before. People that are annoying and that are being mean to my friends and people I talk to. Other than that. I dont crash people just for the fun of it. The crasher that I have for pc can crash me as well. But it worth it if I crash someone that is harassing my friends or the people I talk to. One time I was with my friend playing around and trolling with people just for the fun of it. Then there was a guy using a client with a crasher. The crasher that I have now is the crasher that the dude used to crash me. It didnt really crash my friend. It just brought him down from like 142 frames to like 20 frames. But it crashed me. Cuz I dont have that good of a graphics card. So what I would say is. For pc players watch out for avatars that have a idle that kind of swings its arms around and the music in the background when they join. Thanks you for reading my whole paragraph text lol.
If your being crashed by people who's avatars are blocked it's not a powerful avatar that's doing it but a modified client that allows them to do that.
Tbh it seems like it'd be funny, like how on discord sometimes people will ban each other as a joke, then unban instantly. Obviously this doesn't apply to assholes that join random worlds and crash random people, but for example if two people started fighting and one of them just pulls out a gun, says "parry this you filthy casual" and crashes them, I would probably be laughing pretty hard.
I remember when I first Started getting into VRC, and I knew basically nothing. And I Remember Seeing a Person with the Nuisence Status, and I had never Seen that before I started asking people why they had that Status, and why they're Avatar was blocked for me. Everyone Was Telling me To Block Them Entirely, and they We're apart of a VRC Gang Called Laughing Coffin, I blocked them entirely, but it didn't matter they Crashed the Entire Server of about 20+ People in the Black Cat Lobby, All Except for my Friend Toast, Who had a Beast of a PC, and Lots of Anti Crasher stuff, and when I came back to the world they were Still Trying to Crash them, (Obviously I got Crashed again) But First Run ever into a Crasher happened to be apart of an Infamous VRC Gang :P
2:05 I was playing VRChat and a guy Joined my game, and said “Hey Glitch you wanna see a bad Glitch?” (My Name has the Word Glitch in it) I wasn’t using my Mic so I just Shook my Head rapidly and Raised my Hands to indicate I mean no harm, I saw his Skin change for 2 Seconds and the Crash was so bad, I couldn’t turn my Headset off, I just waited till it died
I just use true-shader anti-crash. Automatically blocks the assets from loading, by using a long list of known crashing shaders, also works against crashers that still works even if the avatar is hidden. The last type that nothing will work against are the client-based crashers. You can find these when you are in a lobby that does not allow "risky actions" which are mods that let you fly, run fast, and noclip. These can only be enabled if the world-creator opts-in to it. You will usually find them flying around at the speed of sound on an avatar not made by them. They also come in the form of two visitor-ranked users stacked on top of each other, in order to both prevent you from blocking/reporting both at the same time, but also to improve the effect of their crasher.
If I were to ever get a crasher avatar, I would use it for "public service." Such as if someone is like bullying someone, or if someone is stuck like the one girl said.

I go to the black cat constantly and I understand that a lot of people don't go there because it's crash your Haven and it's harassment Haven and there's children but it's also where a lot of people who are new to the game go and due to my insecurities I struggle to approach groups of people so I often approach people who are alone so often times the black cat is a great place to find people who are sitting alone and don't have any friends yet so I just adopt many lonely people into my group of friends. Funny thing is I feel like my entire friend group were met at some point in the black cat like if I ask my friends where I met them they'd probably say the black cat except for one of my closest friends which I apparently met in a murder lobby which I didn't remember. I think I was hanging out with toru when I met amari in the murder lobby. Anyways I'm going off topic, I like the atmosphere of the black cat, when it's not hectic as hell. I like the fact that there's many mirrors there's also two stages and I like the bathrooms. I don't know so far I think it's one of my favorite public worlds that I've found. I do enjoy going there a lot, and like I said I've met most of my friends there. You know by finding someone sitting in a corner quietly. . .
Our story: My best vrchat buddy god a new skin he cloned from someone, he had no idea what all the toggles do, but one of them just instantly crashed everyone in the loby, everithing got bright and we all crashed.. we were all friends tho so when we came back we discussed what happened and figured out he accidentally got a crasher avatar.. Checking on his avatars specs it had an absuuuurd amound of particles and stuff witch is a major red flag for us now! He never used that avatar again..
I have most avatars turned off, and when there are annoying people, I act like I can’t see or hear them/straight up ignore them. They end up leaving me alone.
I mostly have crashers because a lot of them look cool but other then that I don’t use them unless someone is being toxic other then that knowing how other people play the game is pretty funny

Im actually friends with crashers after picking fights with them. I respect them too because they don't do it unless you concent or if there is a minor in an adult world (mostly drinking worlds).
The thing I'm most grateful for about the quest 2, is that it doesn't support shaders. Yeah, it's annoying that I can't see some cool looking avatars, but at least crashing is waaaaay less probable.
Oh god. Alright, strap in So I was on Vrchat with my girlfriend and I thought it would be funny to take her to Kami's Lookout, that one dragon ball world. Once we got there, everyone flocked around her because she had a cute high pitched voice (unlike my deep ass) and a genshin avatar and she was just the center of attention, it was great, but when I tried to go and talk to her, one of the guys, who had a Beerus avatar came up and challenged me, kinda similar to this video and he does his little "Hakai" thing and I crash. This happens three more times and the 3rd time i come back, I block his avatar. I learned a valuable life lesson about the dragon ball fandom in VRchat.
I was hanging out with this one girl in VRC having a good ol time just mucking about and this guy comes in and is like "yo dude get out this my bitch" while pointing a gun at me, and I didn't know about this at the time and I pointed and laughed at him to being instantly sent to the SteamVR hang time screen
There are software crashers and it doesn't matter if you have everyone's avatars off or if you even block the crasher, they can still crash you. I don't know how they can, but it has happened to my friends and I (we occasionally bump into the same crasher and have them blocked). It also doesn't help that there are mods that lets you see people who blocked you, because these crashers get so pressed when they see people blocked them and will crash the entire lobby.
The first vrchat game I played of the avatar testing, and within 5 minutes of me being there I think someone did like a crash thing to me because my screen looked like it was drunker than my dad.
Had a lobby full of Quest users and a guy straight up crashed them all. Leaving only 3 of us, not including the crasher but including myself alive because we were on desktop. It was so bad that Udon crashed. The person was a trusted rank. Do not trust trusted, User and Known ranks are more trust worthy.
even with avatars turned off, they have another method of crashing you by playing a corrupted audio file through their mic that causes a fatal runtime error. only way to prevent a known crasher is to hide avatar and also mute them. blocking them is ineffective for some reason i dont know why but if you block them they still have the ability to crash you through corrupting files. if you hide avi and mute them tho it renders their crash completely ineffective. that is until they rejoin you through an alternate sock account and use their methods before u have the chance to hide their avatar and mute them again.
Wanna know something stupid? Quest players are at danger. When a quest headset is crashed, it doesn’t just turn off the headset, it also overheats the battery and permanently damages it. Meaning without warranty, you can permanently suffer damage that makes your headset just overheat randomly, which is why it sucks the worst.
Today was my first day in a public world and some one tryed to crash me but I just lagged a LOT like 1 fps and yeah it happened 3 times so I guess the quest is a strong VR head set.
I’ve been in VR Chat for about 1 year now, and I’ve only been crashed maybe once or twice. Mainly because I met someone my second day playing who introduced me to a group that usually avoid public lobbies, and they notified me about the dangers of playing in publics. I’ve hung out with them ever since, so there haven’t been many opportunities for me to get crashed.
I personally have experienced crashers before. I was at a private event for a server I belonged to and someone I guess had beef with that private server and said he would make it his mission that every private event the server had, he would crash it to destroy the community, because he was removed from it. He had a personal vendetta against the entire private server, so he'd come in and find a way to sneak in as a spy account. As soon as he was invited in, he would start screaming racial slurs and crash everyone. The only reason I did not get crashed is as soon as he started screaming racial slurs, I blocked his avatar immediately before he could activate his crashing client. So it was me an him in the world. He kept trying to crash me, but I reported his name to the private server, and the private server blocked his spy account from the server. He did this for weeks on end before the private server got wise and started vetting new people coming in. Eventually though he just got bored from it and stopped. Also there are others out there who are malicious when it comes to this and they believe they are doing good when in fact they are filled with hate. If you get on their bad side, they will make it a mission to follow you wherever you go, and use clients to try and track where you are in a public world setting. If you hit any public world, they know where it is, they'll go to it, and they try and crash you. I've even heard of crashing clients that if you do not shut off your PC quickly and restart your PC, it will pass a command to your video card to loop and overheat, either damaging or destroying your video card. Some people are pushing the envelope to causing damage to hurt others because of some perceived slight, because they are, for lack of a better term, aholes. The best way to combat it, the moment your gut tells you this person might be odd, hide their avatar. Keep some safety settings up to certain people, like normal users. Never accept friend requests from random people, because once you friend them, their avatar is then trusted, and then it shows their avatar, and then they can crash you.
Alright, I've played this game a lot, and I was HEAVILY invested into the crashing community, i'll tell you some quick stuff: 1. Most crashers use "particle crashers" which you can easily avoid if you just insert one nice thing into your files, a particle limiter. 2. Don't confuse all laser's with a particle one, I myself use a laser just so that I can see who the hell I'm trying to crash. 3. There's TONS of ways to crash, pull ips, steal other people, unless you are in a gang, there's no way you can protect yourself against this. 4. Just... don't get into a gang or anything, 70% of ppl in there are weirdos who do a lot of stupid shit and are skids, it's also hella toxic.
Most incidents of me getting crashed happen so fast I can barely react, but I actually survived a crasher once. It was on that udon hadouken world where you do the hand motions and shoot fireballs. I was testing it out with some other random people when this guy starts standing in front of me just staring. He had the default robot avatar, the one with the red eyes. It made me a little uncomfortable, so I moved away. But every time I did, he would follow me and stand in front of me again. Eventually I was like "Dude, can I help you?". Right after I said that though, a bunch of lightning particles appeared around me and my game started lagging all to hell, so I panicked and tried to escape. Luckily this was a really shitty crasher and I was able to just walk out of it. On top of that, not only did he not crash me, he ended up crashing himself! I was laughing about it for days.
I play PCVR for most games but I used to just have a quest. I was in an among us lobby (mistake) and the lobby was pretty nice. I used to really be into JoJo and other animes. (I still watch it) When I was going in I was giorno and someone else was dio. We didn't know eachother. So he procceded to kill me in front of everyone. He gave me a world name for a jojo avatar world. A few rounds after that, it started getting out of control. I pulled out a giant brush as a joke and put it away so I wouldn't cheat. That was a mistake. It got so bad that dio had to crash the game. I don't know what happened but it crashed. I didn't make me restart my headset though.
When i play vr with my boyfriend or makin new friends in the new Sonic VRCHUB people crash there so much the entire map crashes due to crashers its so frustrating that its so unbeliveable
I’m a PCVR player on VRChat, and I stumble upon many quest user who come up to me and call me Poor or trash etc, for having a Rift s, but I usually reply with that technically that there the poorer ones for not having a gaming PC, but they rely on that VR to run every game they go on, even though it’s really laggy for them, so really Quest users should convert to PCVR.
I actually am close friends with someone who used to be oart 9f multiple crashers GANGS (yes, theres gangs... its really stupid) Their main shtick was they only went after other crashes, laggers, super super super toxic people, etc. A different story but like, not really a story more of my own thing to add Lots of crashers communities like to spread false information meant to make you to afraid to get online, like i think one of the fake stories ive heard was actual fucking real world murder happening. Generally most crasher avatars work by just having insane amounts of shaders, particles, and other things that are hard to render in order to get your processor and graphics cards working harder then with the start of an animation or gesture a large burst of hard to render stuff like thousands of particles, shaders, lighting effects and sfx blare and choke your cpu/gpu's into crashing, unable to handle basically the giant information dump it just had unloaded onto them. I'm not sure when it started turning into guns with laser sights. But generally quest users and users with low end computers are very susceptible to having this happen to them.
Im very new to vrchat, 0 friends just because the whole starting conversation is something I have to get use to in vr. I've had someone crash a lobby/world on my second time seeing a crash. This is before I knew about crashers. I heard the guy talking about his crashing avatar and how it was just ok. Then I guess he activated it and that was all she wrote. The first time I was crashed I didn't even recognize it as something someone caused. As a new user just getting into vrchat its kinda discouraging even though I have only seen it happen twice.
I have a few crashes saved but I only use them if they are harassing me pretty bad. They’re pretty much only a last resort type of tool I’ll use and I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve had to use them
Crashers in my opinion are scum of the earth, but I will say, it is always satisfying having emmVRC and using the lobby history so you can join right back into that world once you restart, block the avatar and be like "okay, now what's your plan"
I understand how some people have the perspective that crashing "has its uses" or "is okay in specific circumstances", but I completely disagree. It should never be in a player's hands, no matter how much they or others think that they are a good person/in the right, to be able to force another player out of the game. The only acceptable way to deal with players who you think are doing wrong is to report them, and block them. That said, I do believe most crasher avatars use particles or shaders to crash others. So if you disable those for non-friends, you should be in the clear most of the time. Though I can see how someone could use extreme geometry to do the same. Luckily, we have settings to enforce limits on poly count, hiding avatars automatically that go over that limit. I, personally, do not show anyone's shaders or particles unless I have interacted with them for long enough to be reasonably sure they are a decent person. Don't let the threat of crashers get you down, though! Most people I run into are pretty cool. There's just some very bad apples out there in the mix.
sadly on quest the only way to deal with crashers that I've found effective is the "nuke all" hide everything for everyone button. every quest crasher I've seen kills the entire lobby when they join so its the only way to save yourself
It became such a common thing that you ask for the existence of "valid reasons for crashing" - there are none. It's basically as illegal as if you DDoS someone. It may not be technically the same, but it's the same result and intent.
I am friends with a crasher! He targets children. Says that VRC is no place for kids and if their parents won't restrict them, he will. Normally he wouldn't be someone I spent a lot of time with but because he is dating someone in my inner circle, I see him quite often. Sometimes I feel bad but other times I get it. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a great lobby full of cool people and all of a sudden some kid shows up and everyone gets all quite cause we can't continue the conversation in front of a child. Or even worse, when the tweens try to act "cool". That doesn't excuse the behavior but it does make me understand him better. I mean I report people for breaking games and rude behavior (either towards me or minorities) and most of the time nothing happens.
had a lobby crasher in my black cat lobby once, he crashed the lobby, my game didnt crash for about 15 minutes. just kept freezing and unfreezing. so everytime i unfrove id be staring at the crasher with my arms crossed. then i crashed. my 3090 held out as long as it could
i know im late but i only show avatar, voice, and icon for everyone but friends that why i can see everyones avatar and not have to worry about excess lag or crashers. mostly do it so my pc doesnt work so hard

personally playing on quest, when i crash my whole entire screen freezes and theres like a black box or something that goes across the screen, and audio will loop like if somebody said something earlier, you will hear it playing; looping for some reason and then i have to restart/turn off my headset.. but thats extremely bad crashes, most crashes just close vrchat and send me back to the oculus home menu...
As a quest player I can tell you crashing on that thing suckssss!! It makes my view spin and it glitches!! Gives me a mad headache!!! I’ve had to reset a few times.

Everyone is crowded around the mirror and I listen and hear them talking about dumb shit, like one time i joined a world and there was these people around the mirror, it wasn’t a deep convo or anything and that would usually annoy me, but when I saw the way they interacted, and one of them wanted a joker skin, I literally found a world and got it for them, so I don’t do it all the time, just to the really annoying couples that sit infront of the mirrors

I have been crashed maybe 2-3 times on Quest, avatars are all disabled by default unless they're a friend. The crash itself wasn't a laser or sword, and I don't recall speaking with a crasher, the only one I saw was mute . I had to restart my game, and everything went back to normal.
I'm on Quest and the other day some guy walked up to me and crashed me even though all I could see was his fallback avatar. How does that even work?

I’m a quest player, and I managed to outcrash a crashed. I’m proud of myself to this day.
When I was on quest I thought the thing often causing my game to crash was just too many people and too much lag in a public world. What I didn't realize is how many horrible people actively target quest users.
Since I've gotten PCVR, I haven't gone a single huge world session without seeing all of the quest users crash before my eyes, all at once. It's even more frustrating than crashing yourself. Instead of blaming it on the game all you can do is sigh and frustration and watch as the person you were having a meaningful conversation with gets infinity snapped out of existance. I've been lucky enough to not have been crashed on PC yet, but it saddens me how many PC players do it to innocent quest users.
The problem with quest crashing is that the most common ones aren’t able to target a specific individual. It just targets the entire lobby via an exploit to my knowledge. It takes one person to find a quest toddler annoying enough for them to crash every quest user in the lobby

If you would like to largely avoid the crashers, u can do so by not hiding the avatar, but hide the "particle system" for non-friends
what they commonly use are actually very easy to make sadly since the SDK doesnt limit that part of avatar element
I wont go on detail on how to make them, but its their particle subemitter and layered collission, thats why they avoid swinging it around in order to not hit their own capsule collider.
i remember i was in the black cat one time, minding my own business, then i heard a very loud robotic screeching noise, and then my game's fps dropped to about 7 frames per minute. somehow, through determination, and sheer f***ing will, i managed to turn on safe mode and escape without crashing.

I've been crashed before. By people who have such powerful avatars that even if you turn off their avatar it can still crash you. My whole pc has been kinda restarted by crashers. And yes I have myself crashed people before. People that are annoying and that are being mean to my friends and people I talk to. Other than that. I dont crash people just for the fun of it. The crasher that I have for pc can crash me as well. But it worth it if I crash someone that is harassing my friends or the people I talk to. One time I was with my friend playing around and trolling with people just for the fun of it. Then there was a guy using a client with a crasher. The crasher that I have now is the crasher that the dude used to crash me. It didnt really crash my friend. It just brought him down from like 142 frames to like 20 frames. But it crashed me. Cuz I dont have that good of a graphics card. So what I would say is. For pc players watch out for avatars that have a idle that kind of swings its arms around and the music in the background when they join.

Tbh it seems like it'd be funny, like how on discord sometimes people will ban each other as a joke, then unban instantly. Obviously this doesn't apply to assholes that join random worlds and crash random people, but for example if two people started fighting and one of them just pulls out a gun, says "parry this you filthy casual" and crashes them, I would probably be laughing pretty hard.
I remember when I first Started getting into VRC, and I knew basically nothing. And I Remember Seeing a Person with the Nuisence Status, and I had never Seen that before I started asking people why they had that Status, and why they're Avatar was blocked for me. Everyone Was Telling me To Block Them Entirely, and they We're apart of a VRC Gang Called Laughing Coffin, I blocked them entirely, but it didn't matter they Crashed the Entire Server of about 20+ People in the Black Cat Lobby, All Except for my Friend Toast, Who had a Beast of a PC, and Lots of Anti Crasher stuff, and when I came back to the world they were Still Trying to Crash them, (Obviously I got Crashed again) But First Run ever into a Crasher happened to be apart of an Infamous VRC Gang :P

I was playing VRChat and a guy Joined my game, and said “Hey Glitch you wanna see a bad Glitch?” (My Name has the Word Glitch in it) I wasn’t using my Mic so I just Shook my Head rapidly and Raised my Hands to indicate I mean no harm, I saw his Skin change for 2 Seconds and the Crash was so bad, I couldn’t turn my Headset off, I just waited till it died
I just use true-shader anti-crash. Automatically blocks the assets from loading, by using a long list of known crashing shaders, also works against crashers that still works even if the avatar is hidden. The last type that nothing will work against are the client-based crashers. You can find these when you are in a lobby that does not allow "risky actions" which are mods that let you fly, run fast, and noclip. These can only be enabled if the world-creator opts-in to it. You will usually find them flying around at the speed of sound on an avatar not made by them. They also come in the form of two visitor-ranked users stacked on top of each other, in order to both prevent you from blocking/reporting both at the same time, but also to improve the effect of their crasher.

I go to the black cat constantly and I understand that a lot of people don't go there because it's crash your Haven and it's harassment Haven and there's children but it's also where a lot of people who are new to the game go and due to my insecurities I struggle to approach groups of people so I often approach people who are alone so often times the black cat is a great place to find people who are sitting alone and don't have any friends yet so I just adopt many lonely people into my group of friends. Funny thing is I feel like my entire friend group were met at some point in the black cat like if I ask my friends where I met them they'd probably say the black cat except for one of my closest friends which I apparently met in a murder lobby which I didn't remember. I think I was hanging out with toru when I met amari in the murder lobby. Anyways I'm going off topic, I like the atmosphere of the black cat, when it's not hectic as hell. I like the fact that there's many mirrors there's also two stages and I like the bathrooms. I don't know so far I think it's one of my favorite public worlds that I've found. I do enjoy going there a lot, and like I said I've met most of my friends there. You know by finding someone sitting in a corner quietly. . .

My best vrchat buddy god a new skin he cloned from someone, he had no idea what all the toggles do, but one of them just instantly crashed everyone in the loby, everithing got bright and we all crashed.. we were all friends tho so when we came back we discussed what happened and figured out he accidentally got a crasher avatar.. Checking on his avatars specs it had an absuuuurd amound of particles and stuff witch is a major red flag for us now! He never used that avatar again..
I have most avatars turned off, and when there are annoying people, I act like I can’t see or hear them/straight up ignore them. They end up leaving me alone.

The thing I'm most grateful for about the quest 2, is that it doesn't support shaders. Yeah, it's annoying that I can't see some cool looking avatars, but at least crashing is waaaaay less probable.

So I was on Vrchat with my girlfriend and I thought it would be funny to take her to Kami's Lookout, that one dragon ball world. Once we got there, everyone flocked around her because she had a cute high pitched voice (unlike my deep ass) and a genshin avatar and she was just the center of attention, it was great, but when I tried to go and talk to her, one of the guys, who had a Beerus avatar came up and challenged me, kinda similar to this video and he does his little "Hakai" thing and I crash. This happens three more times and the 3rd time i come back, I block his avatar.

What happened in black cat is exactly what happened to me last night so annoying + some screaming.
I was hanging out with this one girl in VRC having a good ol time just mucking about and this guy comes in and is like "yo dude get out this my bitch" while pointing a gun at me, and I didn't know about this at the time and I pointed and laughed at him to being instantly sent to the SteamVR hang time screen
There are software crashers and it doesn't matter if you have everyone's avatars off or if you even block the crasher, they can still crash you. I don't know how they can, but it has happened to my friends and I (we occasionally bump into the same crasher and have them blocked). It also doesn't help that there are mods that lets you see people who blocked you, because these crashers get so pressed when they see people blocked them and will crash the entire lobby.
I just got crashed by a kid today. The fellow was merely twelve years old but threatened to swat me and do "much worse."
The first vrchat game I played of the avatar testing, and within 5 minutes of me being there I think someone did like a crash thing to me because my screen looked like it was drunker than my dad.

Had a lobby full of Quest users and a guy straight up crashed them all. Leaving only 3 of us, not including the crasher but including myself alive because we were on desktop. It was so bad that Udon crashed.

as a pcvr player its hilarious when someone tries to crash you but then realizes you are on pc and they had a quest crasher
even with avatars turned off, they have another method of crashing you by playing a corrupted audio file through their mic that causes a fatal runtime error. only way to prevent a known crasher is to hide avatar and also mute them. blocking them is ineffective for some reason i dont know why but if you block them they still have the ability to crash you through corrupting files. if you hide avi and mute them tho it renders their crash completely ineffective. that is until they rejoin you through an alternate sock account and use their methods before u have the chance to hide their avatar and mute them again.

Quest players are at danger.
When a quest headset is crashed, it doesn’t just turn off the headset, it also overheats the battery and permanently damages it. Meaning without warranty, you can permanently suffer damage that makes your headset just overheat randomly, which is why it sucks the worst.
Today was my first day in a public world and some one tryed to crash me but I just lagged a LOT like 1 fps and yeah it happened 3 times so I guess the quest is a strong VR head set.
Ay I use that Casual Hu Tao model all the time! I don't see people use it that often so that's nice to see.
Crashers are the reason I make sure to make my safety settings hide everyone's avatars besides trusted/known users and friends
I’ve been in VR Chat for about 1 year now, and I’ve only been crashed maybe once or twice. Mainly because I met someone my second day playing who introduced me to a group that usually avoid public lobbies, and they notified me about the dangers of playing in publics. I’ve hung out with them ever since, so there haven’t been many opportunities for me to get crashed.
just use anticrash and mostly all crashers won't work against you

I personally have experienced crashers before. I was at a private event for a server I belonged to and someone I guess had beef with that private server and said he would make it his mission that every private event the server had, he would crash it to destroy the community, because he was removed from it. He had a personal vendetta against the entire private server, so he'd come in and find a way to sneak in as a spy account. As soon as he was invited in, he would start screaming racial slurs and crash everyone. The only reason I did not get crashed is as soon as he started screaming racial slurs, I blocked his avatar immediately before he could activate his crashing client. So it was me an him in the world. He kept trying to crash me, but I reported his name to the private server, and the private server blocked his spy account from the server. He did this for weeks on end before the private server got wise and started vetting new people coming in. Eventually though he just got bored from it and stopped.
Also there are others out there who are malicious when it comes to this and they believe they are doing good when in fact they are filled with hate. If you get on their bad side, they will make it a mission to follow you wherever you go, and use clients to try and track where you are in a public world setting. If you hit any public world, they know where it is, they'll go to it, and they try and crash you.
I've even heard of crashing clients that if you do not shut off your PC quickly and restart your PC, it will pass a command to your video card to loop and overheat, either damaging or destroying your video card. Some people are pushing the envelope to causing damage to hurt others because of some perceived slight, because they are, for lack of a better term, aholes.
The best way to combat it, the moment your gut tells you this person might be odd, hide their avatar. Keep some safety settings up to certain people, like normal users. Never accept friend requests from random people, because once you friend them, their avatar is then trusted, and then it shows their avatar, and then they can crash you.
Alright, I've played this game a lot, and I was HEAVILY invested into the crashing community, i'll tell you some quick stuff:
1. Most crashers use "particle crashers" which you can easily avoid if you just insert one nice thing into your files, a particle limiter.
2. Don't confuse all laser's with a particle one, I myself use a laser just so that I can see who the hell I'm trying to crash.
3. There's TONS of ways to crash, pull ips, steal other people, unless you are in a gang, there's no way you can protect yourself against this.
4. Just... don't get into a gang or anything, 70% of ppl in there are weirdos who do a lot of stupid shit and are skids, it's also hella toxic.

Most incidents of me getting crashed happen so fast I can barely react, but I actually survived a crasher once. It was on that udon hadouken world where you do the hand motions and shoot fireballs. I was testing it out with some other random people when this guy starts standing in front of me just staring. He had the default robot avatar, the one with the red eyes. It made me a little uncomfortable, so I moved away. But every time I did, he would follow me and stand in front of me again. Eventually I was like "Dude, can I help you?". Right after I said that though, a bunch of lightning particles appeared around me and my game started lagging all to hell, so I panicked and tried to escape. Luckily this was a really shitty crasher and I was able to just walk out of it. On top of that, not only did he not crash me, he ended up crashing himself! I was laughing about it for days.

I play PCVR for most games but I used to just have a quest. I was in an among us lobby (mistake) and the lobby was pretty nice. I used to really be into JoJo and other animes. (I still watch it) When I was going in I was giorno and someone else was dio. We didn't know eachother. So he procceded to kill me in front of everyone. He gave me a world name for a jojo avatar world. A few rounds after that, it started getting out of control. I pulled out a giant brush as a joke and put it away so I wouldn't cheat. That was a mistake. It got so bad that dio had to crash the game. I don't know what happened but it crashed. I didn't make me restart my headset though.
When i play vr with my boyfriend or makin new friends in the new Sonic VRCHUB people crash there so much the entire map crashes due to crashers its so frustrating that its so unbeliveable
I’m a PCVR player on VRChat, and I stumble upon many quest user who come up to me and call me Poor or trash etc, for having a Rift s, but I usually reply with that technically that there the poorer ones for not having a gaming PC, but they rely on that VR to run every game they go on, even though it’s really laggy for them, so really Quest users should convert to PCVR.

I actually am close friends with someone who used to be oart 9f multiple crashers GANGS (yes, theres gangs... its really stupid)

Generally most crasher avatars work by just having insane amounts of shaders, particles, and other things that are hard to render in order to get your processor and graphics cards working harder then with the start of an animation or gesture a large burst of hard to render stuff like thousands of particles, shaders, lighting effects and sfx blare and choke your cpu/gpu's into crashing, unable to handle basically the giant information dump it just had unloaded onto them. I'm not sure when it started turning into guns with laser sights. But generally quest users and users with low end computers are very susceptible to having this happen to them.

Im very new to vrchat, 0 friends just because the whole starting conversation is something I have to get use to in vr. I've had someone crash a lobby/world on my second time seeing a crash. This is before I knew about crashers. I heard the guy talking about his crashing avatar and how it was just ok. Then I guess he activated it and that was all she wrote. The first time I was crashed I didn't even recognize it as something someone caused. As a new user just getting into vrchat its kinda discouraging even though I have only seen it happen twice.

I have a few crashes saved but I only use them if they are harassing me pretty bad. They’re pretty much only a last resort type of tool I’ll use and I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve had to use them
Crashers in my opinion are scum of the earth, but I will say, it is always satisfying having emmVRC and using the lobby history so you can join right back into that world once you restart, block the avatar and be like "okay, now what's your plan"
I understand how some people have the perspective that crashing "has its uses" or "is okay in specific circumstances", but I completely disagree. It should never be in a player's hands, no matter how much they or others think that they are a good person/in the right, to be able to force another player out of the game. The only acceptable way to deal with players who you think are doing wrong is to report them, and block them.
That said, I do believe most crasher avatars use particles or shaders to crash others. So if you disable those for non-friends, you should be in the clear most of the time. Though I can see how someone could use extreme geometry to do the same. Luckily, we have settings to enforce limits on poly count, hiding avatars automatically that go over that limit.
I, personally, do not show anyone's shaders or particles unless I have interacted with them for long enough to be reasonably sure they are a decent person. Don't let the threat of crashers get you down, though! Most people I run into are pretty cool. There's just some very bad apples out there in the mix.
sadly on quest the only way to deal with crashers that I've found effective is the "nuke all" hide everything for everyone button. every quest crasher I've seen kills the entire lobby when they join so its the only way to save yourself

It became such a common thing that you ask for the existence of "valid reasons for crashing" - there are none. It's basically as illegal as if you DDoS someone. It may not be technically the same, but it's the same result and intent.

I am friends with a crasher! He targets children. Says that VRC is no place for kids and if their parents won't restrict them, he will. Normally he wouldn't be someone I spent a lot of time with but because he is dating someone in my inner circle, I see him quite often. Sometimes I feel bad but other times I get it. I can't tell you how many times I've been in a great lobby full of cool people and all of a sudden some kid shows up and everyone gets all quite cause we can't continue the conversation in front of a child. Or even worse, when the tweens try to act "cool". That doesn't excuse the behavior but it does make me understand him better. I mean I report people for breaking games and rude behavior (either towards me or minorities) and most of the time nothing happens.

personally playing on quest, when i crash my whole entire screen freezes and theres like a black box or something that goes across the screen, and audio will loop like if somebody said something earlier, you will hear it playing; looping for some reason and then i have to restart/turn off my headset.. but thats extremely bad crashes, most crashes just close vrchat and send me back to the oculus home menu...
