I know Joan is probably generally considered a folk singer, but she lays out a true country song on this one.
More grounded in the blues rather than folk, but yes, she does country like the best. In fact, every damn genre except opera. Her excursion into Motown with the Funk brothers is world beating!

I had only heard the great Ronnie Millsap sing this song so long ago. I hadn't hear it by Joan Osborne. Who knew Joanie could sing country. You go Joan. Love that steel guitar and that country blues rhythm.

What a beautiful song ! and so true ! you never know how the story ends...Thinking of some one so very special from a long long time ago, we meet at my first job when I was 16 years old in Melbourne Australia 1968, when I was 18 we got engaged to be married... but sadly 3 years later our story ended. he was from Scotland and OMG he looked so much like Gerard Butler...He was my first love and now I realise my last...I have thought of him nearly every day for 50 years ... we both married others... I bumped into him one day Many many years ago now, by then we had our life commitments, but he told me that day I was the only one he had ever truly loved and sometimes I wonder how my life would have played out with someone that truly loved me.This song reminds me so much of him, and the movie well I've watched it so many times, and it always always brings me to tears, as does this song...he will always be in my heart forever ❤❤❤
Great movie, & great song. This movie rates amoung the greatest love story. I think the actors were very real in their emotions on the silver screen. Joan has a great voice. Thanks again for the posting. Julian

Just found this video. It's amazing. Beautiful song written by the very talented Kris Kristofferson back in the 1960's and video featuring another very talented man, Gerard Butler. Both men are awesome. Kris Kristofferson was quite the ladies man back in the sixties and seventies. Gerard Butler is quite the ladies man now. A lot of the same personality traits.
Imagination of falling in love starts whenever listen to this song. Really soulful & great song it is.

Need to correct previous post. I believe Kris Kristofferson wrote this song in the 70's not the 60's. I was going from memory and did not look it up. He wrote so many great hit songs which were sung by other artists. And Gerard Butler is now a huge A-List star. Both great talents.
