After a long career as a corporate expat and digital nomad across 40 countries, I came back to the US before the pandemic. I started a business that now provides financial security but requires my presence here. So I satisfy my travel desire by closing shop twice a year to travel for 2 months at a time. That way, I don't need to deal with visa or residency permits, taxes, relocation and other issues. I live a simple, frugal life in the US and enjoy my long trips abroad. It literally is the best of both worlds.
Hi Alan, Leslie, and Wolf. Thanks for posting this video. It reminds us to make the most of our opportunities while we are healthy enough to do so, one of the main reasons we retired earlier than originally planned. I think too many people put off their retirement without considering this but instead focus on accumulating additional money they don't need to retire now. It's better to not be able to say "I wish we'd done this sooner!" Thanks for the link to Discover Cars. We'll definitely use it when planning our next trip. Cheers!
Thanks again for watching and supporting us John! Maybe I should say " better late that never"! But really, as soon as one is able will be good enough to retire. Enjoy it every day, and fulfill your dreams. Thanks again Alan,Leslie and Wolf
Ola Fred We share costs in most of the videos but we put together thus to cover all of our traveling in 2023. Thanks for being here and supporting our channel. ua-cam.com/video/MwpR9vXVofo/v-deo.html Have a wonderful day Alan
So happy to see your family is able to travel around Europe. Just curious, what did you do with the pets while you were traveling, and for how long each trip?
We boarded the dog at her groomer, and a friend came every other day to check on the cat. Both were about 1 week trips. Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Alan, Leslie and Wolf
I have not researched the 'zone' for travel restrictions. I am a US resident, not really planning on getting residency anywhere at the moment. How to navigate travel Europe full time? Isn't there some sort of time restrictions in that Zone? Is it per year or can you come and go to restart the time limits? Do you have a video explaining this?
Without a visa and a residency permit, you can only be in the shenzen zone for 90 days at a time, and then would be required to exit the zone for 90 days before re-entering. Here's a link to our visa video ua-cam.com/video/S9YJxbHXX_8/v-deo.htmlsi=jYXQAfM4XQnV-uN1. Hope it helps. Alan
I was pretty discouraged today when I started looking at detail in the tax implications of moving to Portugal after the NHR expires. It would be really cost prohibitive. :(
Ola Christobar, It does look discouraging however because of how you receive your money (pension, SS, dividends, etc) it is well worth speaking with a Portuguese tax attorney our is Filomena Silva you can email her at filomenasilva@zacariasdasilva.pt Please tell her we sent you. She is very good and should be able to quickly give you an idea of your situation. Many people are finding that their final tax only runs 15-20% not 45% like they fear. So the moral of the story is. Always speak with a tax attorney because we all have different ways our money is set up. Hope this helps. Alan
Thanks for this information Allen! Although the NHR is expiring, I hope the Government will have an alternative for retirees. Who knows? But I will take you up on talking to a tax Attorney! I have been to Europe and have been to Portugal and for me, Portugal is still number one.❤
Ola Mr65 Good question. No it doesn't count towards our residency requirements. We must stay in Portugal for a full 6 months consecutively or 8 months non consecutively. Or if you kept your residence in the USA you can travel for 3 months.anywhere in the schengen zone. Have a wonderful day Alan
Hi guys 😊 Do you (or know someone) know anything about Crypto Law in Portugal? Thank you 😊 I am enjoying your videos and looking forward to travel around Europe in 2025 😍

Bom dia! Bonjour! Howdy!
Hi there!
Thanks for watching
Loved the video. I share your passion of love to eat and the hate to cook. However, I’m condemned to cook everyday. 😂
Such is the way of the world!
Thanks for watching.

Great! We hope it all works out. Portugal is a lovely country.
Does the time traveling within the Schengen count toward the time in Portugal? No borders, I’d say yes…
