I never set out to make a “dark” record.
It just sort of happened. Over the past two years, I wrote about whatever I was feeling at the time, and certain themes naturally emerged.
While I’ve endured more than my fair share of challenges recently, I assure you this isn’t some thinly disguised cry for help! I’ve always been fascinated with bleak subject matter. The older I get, the more eager I am to explore the shadowy depths of the human spirit.
Rest assured, it’s not all death and decay. There’s plenty of optimism to balance things out. In fact, the set kicks off with what might be my most hopeful song yet.
Is it my best album? Quite possibly. It’s certainly the best sounding! It’s also noteworthy because, for the first time, I did all the design and layout myself.

Holy shit fresh 80s music, outstanding
🤘🏻
Absolutely!!!!🎉
Definitely a refreshing Depeche Mode vibe. Killer sound.
Thank you! As you'd imagine, I get a lot of Martin Gore comparisons.
@@colortheory Very Martin Gore. There's some Clarke going on here too.
Thanks for checking out my new album! It's also available on CD, signed and numbered in a 6-panel Digipak, limited to 300 copies, at colortheory.com. 💿
Trick of the Light reminds me of the New Romantics in the UK.
This is a master piece! Thank you so much for the music!
@@CLS4Real666 Very kind of you to say!
Now you have us who were really there in the early to mid 80's finding you---we who were eschewing American radio music in favor of our DJ-made tapes and import bin records of new wave that we had to find on our own, with no internet, only import magazines from the UK. It was not easy to hear synth pop then if you were not in New York or LA. In Detroit we had 2 short-lived new wave radio stations, thankful at least for that. Most of the time the DJ did not ID the bands, so we had tapes with songs, not band names. These days you get to know what an artist had for breakfast the same day! It was hard work to be a new wave person then, and I have no regrets. I was always drug-free (unlike most people in that world) so I remember it all. We were young, broke and made our clothes from second hand stuff. We sprang for a cool haircut sometimes and maintained it outselves, putting shaving cream, sugar water or cheap gel and spray in it. Most people were fluffy and preppy and 'normal' then and scowled at us. But we knew we were special, holding up our corner of our music-influenced mosaic. Wish I could tell you it was easy being 20 in 1983 but it wasn't. I graduated high school in 1981 and the baby boomers had all the jobs. And there were not the opportunities there are now. We were inspired by entrepreneurs but mobility was scary and you literally had to up and move with your heart in your throat to seek something new, no contacts, no place to live, nothing. What Madonna did was very common. We learned to land on our feet and hide our resentment of these gatekeepers of the jobs. Yes, we were the first to resent the boomers. Get in line! Our generation had no name until recently- Generation Jones. We are the grandkids of men that came home from World War 2 early and started having their families a few years before the grandparents of Gen X. And we are not like the boomers at all. Your music sounds like Martin, Howard Jones, Alphaville, and a few dozen other frosty, detached-sounding vampire styled new wavers. Great job!
I appreciate those comparisons! I grew up in LA so we had KROQ and built out teenage identities around that!
Why does your font have a line thru it. It's annoying. Don't do that.
@@arealzero85 i dont understand this line thing! What does it mean?
It means to ignore it like it's filler anime @@felinelove
Deep soul 😮
What I love is that your voice is distinct. I hear a lot of new synth wave retro 80s style music and the voices sound too much alike and too perfect. Yours is so unique and distinct, no one sounds like you, which is something I loved about 80s music! Everyone sounded different and unique 😊
I appreciate that! 🥰
Where can I buy a hard copy of this
@@cobeoe Thanks for asking! There are still a couple dozen left at colortheory.com.
I searched Peter Gabriel and this is the top result from youtube. Very glad I clicked.
Edit: Okay, THAT'S how you make good music sound effortless. I think "She's Made of Wires" and "Cakewalk" are my favorites.
Edit 2: Dude, every song on this album becomes the best song on the album depending on the moment.
Wow, UA-cam honors me! What's especially surprising about that is that my cover of “Mercy Street” didn't show up! Thank you for the kind words. 🙏🏻
It's a great album. Your songs hit often enough in my playlist that my wife recognizes your voice. I'm definitely jealous of your artistic talents. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words! And say hi to your wife for me! If that's not too weird... 😅
Not my usual style but I don’t care - so glad I saw this ad. Fascinating songwriting. I love the vibe - the lyrics, your voice, melody and chord choices. This music is way more real than most of what gets released today, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the kind words Stuart! I'm glad you took a chance on me!
Tbh, I stumbled on this by accident, what a happy coincidence.
The album cover and title seemed intriguing so I delved in, really enjoyed this.
Thanks for taking a chance on me Jon!
Really was expecting less but the peep went the extra mile kudos 🍻
🏃🏼
Holy 80's I love this!
🥰
Thanks for making this. Listened to it on a night when I was sad and just needed some ethereal 80s synthesizers.
Hope today is better!

Im so hooked on you my dude❤️🔥. A million encores for you🌒
I appreciate it Adam!
These lyrics are masterfully crafted.
Thanks Joey!
You're welcome. I'd like to order the Mages album. But can I get a raincheck on that price for the bundle?
@@joeycredible I appreciate the thought, but I don't really have any way to do that unfortunately. There are only a dozen left before my new CD runs out and then I'll have to change around my bundles anyway!
Just gotta say, IM IN LOVE WITH YOUR VOICE🤘🗣.. The darkness is impressive. I really appreciate you taking the last 2yrs of your life and sharing them in verses. It's a bigger impact for me🙏🧎🏻
I appreciate that Adam! My voice can be a love it/hate it sort of thing so it's nice that you fell on the good side. 😜
Best thing I’ve heard
That's a bold statement - thank you!
Love the synth build-up at 5 seconds. Another great track my good man. Love your calming vocals mixed with the retro 80s beats this one has going.
Thanks Kort! 🙏🏻
Love your music.
Found you via your "majesty of our broken past" album.
Been hooked ever since.
Glad you found me! 🙏🏻
So soothing. I love this album so much! I am definitely sharing this with my musically inclined friends! It is so beautiful and touches to the core of the soul. You did the artwork as well? It is so beautiful and harmonious with the sound of the music and the lyrics. Speaking personally, I consider this a masterpiece to treasure for many many years to come.
Thanks for your kind and generous words! Yes, I did all the design for the CD release, for the first time.
Lovely stuff! Thanks for putting it out here! 🙂
You bet! I was a little unsure about posting the full album, but I can always delete it if I realize later that it was a mistake!
Glad i clicked the ad! New car song for me 🎉 I hope you and September 87 collab i can hear a epic hit on the horizon!
Glad you clicked the ad too, especially if you got a new car out of it! 😜
Beautiful and mesmerizing! Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words!
been lookin for music forever man n this is perfect
Glad we're a match!
WOW! How do you keep banging out these albums! I knew it was going to be special when Crystal was the lead track. Maybe my favourite yet?! It's been wonderful to following along and see your craft grow. The songwriting is excellent, your voice is developing into a cool lower register at times and a bit more personality as a singer, and the melodic hooks are all memorable. I love the synth tones in this one. You're excellent in leaving space, having notes fade out....
Just awesome
Thank you for the generous and thoughtful comment! You noticed a sang the lowest ever on The Serious One, which I may or may not repeat 😜. The new stuff takes a different turn as you've probably heard!
I love your style. Can' t get out of my head since crystal appear on my facebook videos.
I love the songs and the bits n it goes w your voice. Good work , keep it up.
Thank you! 🙏🏻
Really amazing!
Thank you for this
Cakewalk is such a cool one. A real swing between tones with that hyper colorful middle part! Awesome.
Thank you! Wild mood swings for sure! 😜
This is amazing!!!
I’ve always loved your unique voice over the years and grew up with it. I remember hearing one of your songs in Rock Band or Guitar Hero, my mind is fuzzy on which but I was hooked.
Probably “If Not Now When” on Rock Band! Thanks for sticking with me. 🖤
This is really lovely ❤
Love this! Unique & takes me back to the 80's great beats!❤ adding to my play list! And subscribing!

I am at the mid album,
i read the description before starting,
And i would like to thank you for being here, not for making music, for creating feelings, because it's what it is,
I started to follow you from "The Majesty Of Our Broken Past". Everything is good,
This album is, yes surely of one of the best sounding
Right back at you! Thank you. 🥰

Mad props ... I am glad you are on this planet...best music imho because mainstream music today is trash...
Awesome work
That's very kind of you! We're lucky to live in a world where we're not exposed to mainstream music on a regular basis. For me, pretty much just the gym!
My my my what have i stumbled acrossss🎉❤... im heart struck 🙏🧎🏻
Diese Stimme erinnert mich an Alan Parsons Project, vielleicht liege ich falsch? Aber eure Musik berührt mein Herz. Ich fühle mich zurück versetzt in meiner Jugend. Woher seit ihr? Absolut geniale Musik. Hört sich wie in den 80er an, und mit einem hauch futuristisch an. Danke für eure Darbietung.
Thank you for the kind words! I get compared to APP quite a bit. I'm from Los Angeles.
Like a male vocalist version of Chvrches. Love the atmospheric feel.
I appreciate that comparison! 😲
This ad is actually pretty good
As ads go, right? 😜
Gave me those Depeche Mode vibes and I totally love it! Great album 😊❤
Thank you! 🖤
I'm glad this came up in my Sponsored videos feed. I just got done with the Soundshapes game on PS4 and this is giving me similar vibes to some of the music in there
I haven't played it! I'll have to check that out.

woowwwww, color theory te trasnporta a otros lugares , maravillosa canción. Obligado a descubrir todo el album
🙏🏻
This is all 🎨
But I also am not trying to pigeonhole this as 80s because it's just an amazing album, period.
At this point I kind of just do my own thing, but the palette is still 80s-inspired.
Finally a new futurepop group wow
god bless you
Im 6 months late, this just came up on my list... 😢❤
Blame the algorithm! 😜
🤔 a UA-cam recommend that I like noice got something to chill to while Playing SnowRunner 🤗

It's like a spiritual successor to Black Celebration! Nice voice and unique compositions.
That's high praise! 🙏🏻
This was also a fantastic and perfect album. Öcsi from Hungary

Its underrated asf!!
I wish I could Do something for this one😢
I appreciate the sentiment! 🖤

19:44 ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
It's giving me Haken 1985 vibes.
Im getting definitely a Martin Gore, Erasure, and New Order influence here!!!
I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are all definitely influences!
This is fucking awesome, realy into this!
🙏🏻🖤
I’m sitting through this all in one sitting. I never normally do that 😂
Nice! Well, it's not a long album. I made it short enough to fit on vinyl, though who knows if that'll ever happen.
❤
This is so underrated 😢I relate and love these songs so much truly such amazing talent!! Oh for the people that don’t know This is definitely actual music 😂🔥
That's very kind of you to say! I can confirm that it is, in fact, actual music. 😄
I have two favorites one legend linkin park and color theory.
❤
Interesting combo! Glad to be part of it. 😄
It's the best album of the 80s they forgot to release. What an experience!
I want to drive a NISSAN 200SX and listen to this while night driving on a clear summer road at 3am
I could imagine taking the 395 to Vegas
Niceeeee
MEGA !!!!
💪🏻
Music speaks to us all differently. When I hear to the song "Crystal", it reminds me of how I would imagine existence after death or before birth. Like one eternal conscious field, even if the lyrics have nothing to do with the subject. Very nice work- I've never heard anything like this album before.
Thank you! I think that's an apt description, especially considering how the lyric refers to “waiting to be born.”
❤👊🏻
How did you make the album art? i like the style.
It was a mix of Photoshop, Midjourney, and Canva. I'm not much of a graphic designer!
🧡🩵💜 Awsome 80s vibes. (ノ´▽`)ノ♪
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
👍🏻❤🙏
The cover art looks like Revelation 12
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
good retrowave, also try perturbator if ur into this stuff
Hi since you do an album each six months please do a very dark symphonic grunge goth rock pop Lana Del Rey Lady Gaga Alice in Chains Depeche Mode Marilyn Manson Rammstein types of mixtures for an album. Also listen to Anders Manga - Blood from roses. Can you make gorgeous instrumentals like that one? Jens Bader - On Time? Try them to see. :)
Jens is that you? 🤔 I'd enjoy those kind of stylistic shifts! While I put out a CD for Patreon members every six months, it's not really an album. Those take more like two years. So far I've got four tracks done for the next one (album 14).
