    My first self built speakers were using the Dynaudio D 28 tweeter and a 21 W 54 woofer with plastiflex treated paper cones, in 1981. Just simple first order filter using a polystyrene bypass. 4 cubic feet sealed with a Carver 250 watt/channel amp, they were quite stunning. Have used Mr Skaanings other products, but his newer AT line with composite cones looks very interesting.

      My Brother has them. They were a bitch to cut as I was able to obtain particle board with a density of 75 pounds/ ft^3. I had to have my Freud blade resharpened after building them. I've been using Speakerlab's( Dave Graebener), RD 57 planar magnetic above 200 Hz, in a dipole, the prototype for the B&G Corp line, and (2) Morel MW 164's, each in 12 foot long, schedule 40, 6 inch diameter, PVC waveguides with first order xover, since '89. Built a totally discrete, MOSFET output, Class A, amp to drive them. My version of the Lang Amp,( The guy who designed it, Old Colony sold me the circuit boards), based on the topology from Old Colony's(Amateur Audio)published design. Nelson Pass said, at the time, it was the most advanced and elegant design thus published, including his own design. So I built several. I've bought the Raal 140-15D's ,(tweeter) Lowther DX 65's(midrange) and Jordan JX 150 NG's(Bass),2/channel, for a new design powered by Transcendent Sound's OTLs.I'll be loading the moving coils in waveguides also.

    I have made some very expensive projects with Dynaudio. BUT all their divers have failed with me
    30W 100 Cone distortion . Surrond failures 3 times . D76 coil fly wires on cone snapped off D21 & D28 stopped working
    Sounded the best WHEN they worked
    I have now been doing some work with drivers from SB Acoustics ( The performance for the price number 1 )
    All my speakers have been driven with high end NAD pre amps & Quad 606 Mk2

      Dynaudio is better than everyone when it comes to loudspeaker design. Especially their standmounts are way ahead of the competition: Evoke 10 and Contour 20i being the pick of the range in 2024.

      The same person founded both companies bro pretty sure not sure when or what caused them to become separate but you still see a lot of similarities in the drivers to look at.

    You better do it in-house, we are talking top of the line, right? Or did I miss something.

      Every line of them is made in-house

      @@viincentfonkert2870 Late to the party here but... in-house? Kinda. In Denmark? Not entirely. Hard to find exact info and what is built where now, but there's a lot of stuff being done in Latvia (at least at one point) and China - like the Evoke series states it was designed in Denmark but made in China. I don't see it being any different for the cheaper lines. Which is sad, I always admired them doing things almost strictly domestically. Being bought by the Chinese is just sad.

      @@tvih84 I believe they actually do, the crossover parts and some materials they get from eastern europe and china. But I'm not sure. Yes I admire that too, thats why I like ATC and Amphion so much

      @tvih84 2 роки тому +1

      I was just re-checking and actually Evoke 20 does say Made in Denmark, but Evoke 10 is indeed labeled made in China. So I guess it's more on a model-by-model basis. Ah well. Regardless, it's clear it's no longer a Denmark-only affair :(

    I love the idea to fix the driver if there is an issue, and not correct it in crossover. However, with the knowledge claimed here, why they are ruining it in crossover with cheap parts like sand cast resistors? They MUST know it degrades the sound. For what? Saving few cents on $1500 speakers?

      You overcome this by big amplifiers..... 😅, so the small speakers easily eat 150 watt..... The big speakers (like finale/evidence) ones are not impressed by 600Watt. This is not an overestimated amount of watts.......

    • @saliwanpl1832
      @saliwanpl1832 4 місяці тому

      Low effectiveness is only an advantage. Loud speakers usually make noise before they produce good sound and quietly play worse. I already had several columns and I prefer them with less effectiveness. Of course, you need to provide them with much more power, but buying a good amplifier is not a problem

    • @connorduke4619
      @connorduke4619 2 місяці тому

      No that is deliberate design to produce great mid bass punch... once you combine with a high current amplifier like Rotel.

    • @chloeleedow7250
      @chloeleedow7250 2 місяці тому

      Most high end speakers are super inefficient, not sure why but they can't all be wrong, any one buying these levels of speakers shouldn't be struggling to put lots of power to them with a high end how output low impedance capable amp and 600w of clean power as someone else said is nothing to most of these speakers.
