  • In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice PPV. Based on the Holden Caprice platform, it has been brought over to the states for use in law enforcement. This car at this time is not available for civilian purchase. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

    In Middle East this car has different version
    1-LS version (the cheapest)
    2-LTZ version (alot of options added)
    3-SS version (The sport version the same as the LTZ but Bodykit added)
    4-Royale version (this version is all about luxury exterior and interior with exterior details added to make it looks more luxurious and its the most expensive version of the Chevrolet caprice)

    I've got a 2007 Holden Commodore, which is the original version of this car that is sold in Australia (and it's also one version down, if the "2007" part hasn't told you so already.) Here are five things you need to know before you consider buying this car, or something similar. 1. The interior space is huge. It's like Chrysler 300 huge. If you're on the taller side (like me, I'm 6'3"), you'll be much more comfortable in this car than your average sedan. 2. It's a big, wide car. In smaller, more cramped suburban areas, I wouldn't recommend it. 3. The suspension is firmer than average. Having firm suspension is good if you want to feel the tires on the road. Even with the firm suspension, the car rides surprisingly smoothly. 4. My version (the base version), can reach speeds of up to 155mph. All versions are also rear-wheel drive. This, coupled with the firm suspension, makes it much more suited to more rural areas than suburban areas. 5. Even though this is a big, fast car, it was built for use in rough-as-all-living-hell rural Australian areas. This also means surprisingly great fuel economy. Even though I have the dual-fuel version, I drove from Melbourne to Adelaide on a single tank. The non-dual-fuel version will likely make the same trip.

    I bought a 2013 PPV 9C1 6L Alto Grey, All cloth mix seats, carpet, spot light in June used with 800 mile on a Manufacturer title. I love it, I have wanted one since it was announced and I started seeing them parked in the fleet lot at a dealer in Richardson, TX. I'm glad I got it, it is one of the best all around cars I have ever had. I put 9C3 detective wheel covers on it from a friend(I have Caprice PPV friends now :D), a homemade K&N intake and I removed the intake maifold cover for more sound. I have a turbo for it that I got a deal on and I hope to make 500whp with it as soon as I round up all the parts and software I need this winter. If you get the chance I'd reccomend buying one.

    • @hendo337
      @hendo337 9 років тому +1

      HNRichard I got 28.8 mpg on a trip from GA to PA last summer. It took some discipline. 93oct, 47psi (hot) in the tires, no A/C(it was a cool night), cruise at 60mph. In mixed driving on 93oct I get between 17 and 19mpg, on E85 in mixed driving it gets 14.9mpg. I use E85 because the car performs better than 93oct on it and it's a $1 gallon less than 93oct so even with the reduced fuel economy I come out ahead. I would highly recommend the car if you like G8s, don't want a car that old and can't afford an SS sedan. I want to augment my fleet with a cheap used 2014 SS sedan soon.

I hear that when hoods in Michigan see one of these in the rear vision mirrors, they give up. Unlike the Crown Vic, where they know they have a reasonable chance of getting away from a single Crown Vic.

    Small lesson on his cars origins.
    In 2006 Holden released its all new Zeta platform in the form of the Commodore and the LWB Statesman/Caprice, the Statesman name was dropped in 2010. In 2008 a version of the Commodore called the G8 was exported to the US and Canada under the Pontiac brand. This was discontinued when Pontiac died. The G8 came in trim unique to Pontiac but similar to the Commodore SS and SV6.
    In 2009 the Zeta based Camaro went on sale.
    In 2011 the Caprice PPV went on sale.

    • @Konformation07
      @Konformation07 10 років тому +4

      Wrong otherwise the SS wouldn't exist. The SS to my knowledge is fully loaded in comparison to the Commodore. Which is a problem because you have to pay extra for options you may not want.

    • @CoziHasSauce
      @CoziHasSauce 10 років тому +3

      As in the commodore down under has like many more variants like the luxury model Calais V, SV6, the base model Evoke and of course the ute range. Don't mean any offense because when the G8 came out Americans loved it but they didn't market it appropriately almost as if they didn't want it to become big. Replies including corrections in my comment are encouraged.

    • @Konformation07
      @Konformation07 10 років тому +2

      Variants are irrelevant as the issue is not variants but options. Basically they took the Commodore V8 and gave it every option possible except a manual transmission. They made it LHD and shipped it here. Then they sell it as that (technically built on order). So if you want an SS then with all of the options is how you will get it. It should have more variants as that is the home country.
      Don't speak for Americans by saying they loved the G8 as a whole. G8 owners and enthusiasts love them and its performance attributes but the rest of them weren't exactly attracted to it. It had a similar option problem. Styling was also an issue. Styling has always been an issue for Holdens here dating back to the Monaro aka GTO by being too bland. The VF (aka SS) is so bland that it is pathetic to me. They are great cars but the Achilles heel was the options and packaging.
      I personally like Commodores. I would have bought the G8 ST if it came into fruition but that is the only model that interests me. Marketing wasn't the only model. As a car, the Commodore isn't good enough to appeal to ordinary Americans and that is because of its package and pricing. That can go back to Holden partially but largely GM North America. In comparison to the Commodore, the SS is stacked as in using items from many different trim levels down under to make a fully loaded package hence driving up the price here.

    I don't get why GM would make a "detective model." If they intended to sell it as a cop car only. They should give it a leather interior and call it a Caprice Classic.

    • @saint5ify
      @saint5ify 10 років тому

      I agree making a "detective model" is pointless GM should have just named the base model Caprice the "Caprice Classic" or named it "Caprice Special" not make a vehicle you can buy out of a dealership and make it a detective model and, this is why GM has fucked up the auto industry and why all the older GM vehicles are being looked at as shit.

      I think at one point, the WM/WN Caprice/Statesman was destined to become the next Impala. Why did they not just make the Impala on Zeta? Because I know reviewers complained about the 2006-13 Impala, would Zeta have silenced the reviewers’ complaints?

    • @harysuper
      @harysuper 3 роки тому

      @@rileysmith9843 it would have for sure! At least we got this car one way or another. The Impala from that era wasn’t terrible, it just was not up to date. It was an extremely dated FWD platform to begin with.

    • @rileysmith9843
      @rileysmith9843 3 роки тому

      @@harysuper And when the mass FWD switch occurred on GM mid-size and larger cars, there was a RWD platform ready and waiting to be stretched to be used on cars such as the LeSabre and Bonneville, already in use at that time by both Holden and Opel, and it was ready to be expanded to other makes in the GM lineup. It was eventually used by Buick, but only on a Chinese-market model. The Royaum would have been a great car to add and slot above the LeSabre, and give Buick a rear-drive flagship.

    The Caprice PPV comes in unique police specifications. This includes poverty spec interiors, when compared to the Holden Caprice, and upgraded suspensions.
    In 2013 the Commodore based Chevrolet SS will go on sale. This will be based on the next model of the Commodore, the VF not the current VE. The Chevrolet SS will come with unique specifications expected to be similar to a HSV Clubsport.

    Its parent car was a top of the line Holden. This is the Australian Holden Caprice stripped of most of its "tinsel." In Australia, the Caprice has features such as LCD screens in the back of the headrests, power leather seats, a 6 disc stacker, and just about everything you'd find in a 7-Series BMW, except for overly complex controls, and a pricetag that makes you shudder.

  • @TTM719

    I think GM should make a domestic civilian version of this car for the American car market. I know they did back in like the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s but it would be nice for the them to make it again because it looks like a really nice car. And I believe the reason why many police departments in the US wouldn't buy these cars is because these are really made for the Australian car market and if something need to be repaired or replaced on this car, it'd be hard to do that because this isn't really a domestic car. I can see why most officers use taruses, explorers, tahoes, Silverados, expeditions, impalas, escapes or any vehicle that can do the job. But this car could do the same if GM would just make a domestic version of it.

The G8 parent car, the Holden Commodore hase been used as a police cruiser for over 30 years. Unlike the Crown Vic, they have evolved a lot in that time

    That will change substantially when the exchange rate between the Australian Dollar and the Greenback levels out. What makes them fun, is the fact that Holden are great believers in universal tooling; make several models from one base, but make all the parts interchangeable. In doing so, it makes them cheaper to build, with the side effect of being easy to customise

    The window switches on the center does remind you of the old Meredes-Benz cars, but I think Engineers did it so the car would have balance in the center. They believe that the window switches on the driver's door will add too much weight on the driver's door than the passenger, which will cause imbalance. The car without the spotlight has a center console that looks like a regular Caprice sold in other countries. But this one is only used for Police Departments.

    The only reason they used the Caprice instead of rebadging the G8 is because when they consulted the various police forces, they wanted more legroom. In Australia, this is specced up a lot more, and is the local version of a Cadillac limo. Albeit a limo that handles like it's on rails, stops on a dime and has reasonable fuel consuption.

    Holden caprice has been invested to our country since 2000 under Chevy badges , Chevy fans were so upset when the caprice was discounted in 1996.
    so GM did relive the Chevy caprice and export it to our region.
    we have several modals of caprice like :
    1. LS
    2.LTZ
    3.SS
    4.Royal
    it was coming with 3.8 (V6) 2000-2004, and 3.6 (V6) 2005-present.
    Also it was coming with LS1 5.7 2000-2006 (V8), and 6.0(V8). 2007- present .
