Problem Solving and Proofing Heeling

- This is a clip pulled from the Heeler's Toolbox 3 class discussing the use of incompatible behaviors to rehabilitate common heeling problems. 'Crabbing' and 'heeling wide' (too much space between dog and handler) are symptoms of improper teaching in the heeling process. By using outside reward placement, right drifting footwork, and left turns, we can teach the dog to keep their bodies both straight and close while also teaching them not to lean across the handler during heeling. It’s a great way to rehabilitate a dog that tends to 'crab'; a dog that leaves to much space between them and the handler; or to proof rear-end awareness of our dogs that already have a strong understanding of proper position.

It's incredible how helpful and instructive a video of 3 Minutes can be 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼
I like his matter-of-fact explanation and simple illustration of the techniques he uses to improve the 'heel' position of the dog. A fellow working with Leerburg is a top flight instructor and can be relied on to have excellent skills.
Worked on the traversing today and then left turns. Works great. Thank you for the tips!
Thanks you for sharing that information. .I have been working on heeling .. and been trying to figure out how to get his rear end in. Instead of out
Awesome, makes sense 👍
Thank you for sharing nice work
beautiful
Excellent. Thank you Forrest. Needed this. My GSD crowds me and always moves his butt out.
Beautiful work, would love a working dog.
Very nice work! Who's the instructor in this video?
Forrest Micke!

@@LeerburgDogTraining he.is fabulous
. I love his work and passion towards his dogs..jamming with Joe is a must see..
Amazing! If I could just get my shelter boy to come when I call him while we're outdoors, I'd be immensely grateful. I want him to be able to run and jump and chase things through the desert--he needs to!--but his obstinate recall refusal denies him the off-leash freedom he craves. I'm at my wit's end . . . further training no longer in budget, but I won't be bringing him back to "prison," where he spent about a third of his almost three-year-old life. (I have him only since 8/22, and I walked him at the shelter for 6 weeks before adopting.) Grateful that at least he's a good boy in the house. I have found shelter dogs to be a breed all their own. No pun intended. Sorry for venting.
so you rambled about a 'recall' that is not reliable. Go look in UA-cam for Jeff Gellman and Sean O'Shea and Tyler Muto.... then get their clips about the 'recall' command. The dog is not 'obstinate'.... that label is called anthropomorphism (attributes human emotion to animals). You have a training issue to resolve and you can learn what to do from professionals.
I’ve been waiting to buy this complete set on DVD...do you know when it will be available?
Currently this is only an online course. The third one is opening for registration later today.
