Transformer core is laminated because to reduce Eddy current loss. Eddy current loss(Pe)=kB²m.f²t²V Where, Bm- maximum flux density f- frequency t- thickness of the core V- volume of core. Now we can says that, Eddy current loss directly proportional to square of thickness of the core (t²). If we can reduce the thickness,then Eddy current loss also reduce.

Finally eddy current is reduced!
