    my feeling was that the 45+ had too large a range of fitness as part of the problem. this made some riders too panicky leading to the odd line choices. what I mean is if one is in the red just at baseline then any further effort could be racing ending. if the effort is hard at baseline but you have some headroom to make up for your or someone else's mistake you ride a bit more relaxed and aren't following or creating a bad line.

    • @TacomaCyclist
      @TacomaCyclist  2 роки тому +1

      Even in the pro races, juniors have to run restricted gearing. They get checked for it too and if they fail, they're disqualified. Supposedly it's to protect their knees during development.

    • @TacomaCyclist
      @TacomaCyclist  2 роки тому +1

      Great question. Nope, 48mph. In the clips here in this video, you can see 62kph a few times. The spot where 48mph happened was right there at turn one moving up the inside line and getting sling shot out in the draft moving up from the back of the pack to the front. Insane, right?!

    • @kupsickted

      That would be like a 160-170 cadence, WOW.

    • @TacomaCyclist
      @TacomaCyclist  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah - it's insane, right? I don't think he pedaled on that one - he sort of got "shot" around the corner by taking a good line and getting pulled through the corner in a draft. His max cadence on this race was 155rpm. It's funny - we'll practice high cadence stuff on the road. I'll hit 180rpm and look a bit like an ape getting a pretty decent amount of voltage applied to my nether regions. He'll get 1,100 watts at 210 rpm. Above that, he starts to lose it.

      @@TacomaCyclist I'm thinking that has to be a GPS glitch of some some sort. I mean, a week earlier at district road championships, on a straight descent with a 35MPH tailwind, the same group of racers maxed out at 47MPH.

      I was going to reply sarcastically, but I'll just be nice. Yes, his and many other elite junior races have world tour level numbers. That's because they are destined for the world tour. He trains and rides with members of EF and Trek Segafredo regularly. And not as pity or charity rides.

      As someone who has raced on this course at least 50X over the years, I can say those speeds have never been achieved, not even on the downhill. And the sprint speeds in both directions on that course are hard to crack 40 due to the gradients. Justin and Corey may get 40 in the sprint but that's pushing it.

    • @TacomaCyclist
      @TacomaCyclist  2 роки тому

      @@shaunb93291 I don't know what to tell you. I've linked to the image of the strava file. I've also said it is possible it's a glitch. I've also personally ridden that course.
