A song inspired by a party invitation from Neil’s teenage years which quoted Zelda Fitzgerald’s line “She was never bored, mainly because she was never boring”.
This track is included in SMASH - The Singles 1985 - 2020. The complete collection of Pet Shop Boys singles in chronological order. “SMASH" will be released on Parlophone on June 16th in a variety of formats including 3CD box set, 6LP vinyl box set and digitally, as well as two special limited edition formats available exclusively via the Pet Shop Boys store - 6LP white vinyl box set and 3-cassette box set. A 3CD/2Blu-ray edition will also be released which includes the complete video collection of the singles plus extras.

"Behaviour" was the first adult music album I ever had. I bought a cassette tape and would listen to it non-stop on my Walkman. I was 13 years old at the time. I remember these songs accompanying me, especially in the backseat of my parents' car. I didn't understand much of the lyrics back then, but the rhythm enchanted me. And "Being Boring" instantly became my favorite pop song. It remains in that place until today. Nowadays, I can also grasp the depth of the lyrics. It's always a great experience to listen to the music (and also watch the music video). Thank you PSB for that! :)❤

I was 25 in 1990 when this song came out and when I came out of the closet. It was such an exciting and yet terrifying time. I am pushing 60 now, and I still cry like a baby for all the friends who are missing from that time whenever I hear this anthem. 😥😥😥😥😥😥

One of my favourite songs of all time for bittersweet reasons, as kids my best mate and I used to ride to the airport to watch the planes, other kids said we were boring. His mum loved PSB as well as me. He lost his battle with Leukaemia at 17.
Neil Tennant & Chris Lowe achieved something very rare in a song: Turn an optimistic sound into a very sad lyric content. "Being Boring" is timeless and magníficent.

I was 14 when this was released. I had this on cassette. I loved this album. It was 1990. The future seemed so bright and full of opportunity. It really was the peak of our civilization. The 1990s were it. The culmination of the 1900s. It was all boiled down to that final decade. Everything was there. Rock, rap, hippies, goth, metal. Freedom, the end of communism, liberalism, the opening of the world to travelling en masse. It really was the best. And we completely fucked it up. We had it in the palm of our hands and let it slip away. We need to find that again. Peace yall. Never stop dancing, especially if you are 14.

Pet shop boys was my first proper love favorite band. I worshiped the ground she walked on we. Loved listening to them. Then one day for no reason she left leaving me devastated. I'm 56 now still like pet shop boys but it's a reminder of a magical time but also a very hurtful time. Suppose it's best to live and lost than not loved at all 😔

Funny how this is such a nostalgic, introspective song but the video is anything but, and they work together perfectly. The models. The dancing. The dog. Each scene more breathtaking than the next. I have mixed feelings about B.W., but this video is an absolute visual masterpiece. I've been a Pethead since 1986 and the release of West End Girls, but this song always has been, and always will be, my favorite. Thank you PSB. I cannot put in to words how much you've impacted my life.
