I don't know what bothers me more; how the original version was canceled for a doomed talk show or how this version only lasted one season. I want this brought back for ABC Summer Fun & Games.
I'd love to see High Rollers brought back to ABC for summer fun & games but bad news is that ABC is cutting back on game shows so Match Game Card Sharks and Celebrity dating game are cancelled according to what i heard the other day but thankfully Press your luck Pyramid and Celebrity Family Feud will be returning to ABC and hopefully High Rollers will make a comeback with maybe Todd Newton hosting it.
@@michael57511 That's bad news for me as I just auditioned for that show a few months ago. But I also auditioned for Press Your Luck so hopefully there's some luck there.
@@michael57511 Yes. The lower rated of ABCs game shows were cancelled. Match Game was a bit of a surprise cancellation as it was "on the bubble". I am sure that the Alec Baldwin incident swayed ABCs choice. ABC (and others) are still looking at game shows and High Rollers (Shut the Box) would be a fun game to see back.
I want High Rollers on Summer Fun and Games too. Fred Silverman made a dumb decision to cancel Original High Rollers as well as Hollywood Squares (Peter Marshall version) and Chain Reaction. But, Wheel Of Fortune was nearly cancelled as well. Late '80s High Rollers was cancelled probably because of Jeopardy and WOF's dominance. This version of High Rollers came on when game shows outside of Jeopardy, WOF, and The Price Is Right started to decline in the late '80s/early '90s.
I think the problem is that the actual game play feels like it’s dragged down by the description of the prizes in the columns. It’s a solid game show, but it’s a little stuffy and rigid. They need to give the host and contestants room to breathe. I mean, this is supposed to be like craps. It needs to have a more casino like feel the way the new Card Sharks was, but they don’t need to change the structure of the game except for finding a way to shorten the tiebreaker game.

Didn’t all the contestants get their choice of either the High Rollers board game or home computer game during the final two months of this version?
