As a Tunisian, this video came to me as a surprise, a delightful one. Harissa is our national treasure and harissa mixed with mayo is known as Algerian sauce and its popularized by Algerians living in France. I love your spin on it mixing different types of chillies. However the traditional way of making it is with hot chillies, garlic, salt and coriander basta!! Harissa for me is best eaten with extra virgin olive oil and hot bread. So simple yet so delectable. Loved this video Laura.
I'm Moroccan and so obviously we use harissa in different dishes as well but you Tunisians took it to another level, my Tunisian friend puts harissa on almost everything 😂😂
Could you use the harissa as a marinade for chicken?
@@Corvo131 haha yeah I know right I mean it happened to me to eat a spoonful of harissa first thing in the morning with a piece of bread ngl lolll we are happy to see it incorporated in different cuisines all around the world
@@squisitissima2810 yes ofc, I think it would make a delicious grilled spicy chicken. Don't forget to dilute it with a bit of olive oil and lemon juice because the harissa paste can be a bit thick.
🇩🇿
Looks so good. I love how Laura’s always like “I can’t find any good enough, so I made my own” 😂
Lol she ALWAYS says that. 😆 It’s funny.
Can you post episode number?
What a surprise!
In The Middle East precisely the gulf countries, we have a traditional food has the same name "Harissa" هريسة but it is so so different than this one.
In the other Arabic countries such as Egypt, Syria, Lebanon.....etc they also have "Harissa" dish which is a sweet we call it "Bas bo sah بسبوسة"
Thank you for the new information and the recipe .
😊
She said North African
HABIBI DO NOT BE IGNORANT HARISSA IS TUNISIAN NOT ARABIC NOT BLA BLA STOP STICKING TO US YOU HAVE HUMUS TOMUS YOUR OWN FOOD AS PER BEING ARABS WE ARE NOT DIFFERENT FOOD AND CULTURE HARISSA SWEET ONE IS ANOTHER THING
OMG and in a mexican household we always have those chiles on hand. So making this tonight, never thought it was so easy to make. :) Thanks
Kinda like a mole
Like a pozole sauce.
That’s what I was thinking lol
You are like us in Tunisia 👍, the Tunisians and the Mexicans in the world they use so much chilli sauce in their food, when they cook ect...
( this "harissa" is traditional Tunisian chilli sauce)
I absolutely love her Spanish pronunciations 💜 makes my heart happy!
I am not spanish but when she was pronouncing the peppers i was like shes nailing it.
@@whitneysanders6996 she was! 😊
I am Mexican/ Italian but I only speak Spanish and a it of English. ( i understand a bit Italian)I never eve hear about this dish and I know about out dry peppers in Mexico. I love cook and try new things and I can’t wait for this one. Thanks Laura ❤️
I swear the way you describe food makes my mouth water! 😁😍 This looks sooo good I'm definitely gonna be trying this
Thank you! I've been needing this for recipes for a while now but could never find it or bring myself to buy it just for a tiny part of a recipe. I'm sure homemade will be so much better!
Harissa always seems to be on my shopping list. The jars are small & I go through it so quickly. So good to have a homemade version now too.
As a Moroccan i love thissss 😍 thank you Lauraaa 🤍
I love Harissa chicken (one of my most popular videos) ! I usually buy it already made. May have to try this.Thank you for showing how to make it homemade.
GURRRL, this popped up JUST IN TIME. I've been watching middle eastern food recipes and some required this! Thank you!
I must say, I never bought Harissa from a store, always prepared my own using chili, smoked paprika, olive oil, caraway seeds and cumin etc. The thought of using ancho as the chili never crossed my mind. I love ancho and I think this must be so good. What a crazy fusion!
I have been using harissa in my cooking for about a year. It is great for flavor. I marinate everything on it. Also when I make fish or chicken shredded.
Harissa?! What a great idea to have for this homemade Harissa! Thanks for your help, Laura!
Wonderful recipe! I use a Belazu Rose Harissa with rose petals in the ingredients. I'll try your recipe both ways-- with and without rose petals. Thank you for the mayo tip too.
From Costco or Sainsbury's?? 🤣
Thank you for this video Laura. I've been curious about harissa. I've never had it, but it sounds delightful. Will try it soon.
Wow I've tried powdered harissa which was so good & I added it to everything but I had no idea you could make it, thank you for this!
Delisios food my friend thanks for sharing good resepi, enjoy n full watching here🌹
Laura always makes Delicious recipes. This is one of them🌸
Thanks Laura ❤❤❤
If you like harissa, try AJVAR! By far the best Balkan condiment ever made!!!!!!!!!
Well surprised with your video! It’s almost the typical Tunisian Harissa 😍 didn’t expect this! Well done Laura 👍
Love you so much 🥰😍🌶
Love how you avoided the double dip at the end.
I just made this. I used it on my homemade tacos. Yum!
Yummy! I have heard of harissa but never knew what it was. Definitely didn't think it would be this easy to make. Thank you for (always) teaching me something new, and making it so approachable!
Sounds sensational!
Making your beef and broccoli tonight! So glad i caught this vid :)
Goes great with shakshuka or huevos rancheros
I love you so much Laura ❤️❤️
I'm definitely trying this. Thanks for sharing Laura.
Yay! New video!! 💜💜
I've always seen these chillis but never knew what to make with them
매운 고추 소스 레시피 잘 봤어요^^ 웃는 모습이 너무나 아름다운 당신을 알게 되어 기뻐요^^
Ooooh, you could save and plant those chili pepper seeds for more Harissa!
Nice thanks ❤❤❤
I love you guys so much ❤️❤️
Try Chiles from Los Chileros De Nuevo Mexico.
Very fresh product.
Thank you Laura!! This is a recipe I really needed 🌶
Luv your videos! You inspire me 👩🏾🍳❤️
Lovely! Will definitely give this one a try.
Traditional Iraqi dish during Arbaeen. ❤️❤️❤️
I feel the same way about my cayenne pepper sauce I made from home-grown cayenne peppers. Made some roasted red pepper hummus and added my pepper sauce...omg. 🌶 Divine!
the new kitchen is rocking!!
Happy New Year, Laura!
Yay new video 😁
Must put ground caraway seed for real authentic flavor
It's Tunisian traditional chilli sauce ( harissa)
Me parece que faltó alcaravea (carum carvi). La consitencia es muy buena.
Good job👌👍
CAVA harissa is AMAZING!!!
This is nice thank you!!
I don't know what this really is. I don't think I'll make it. But I could use a little Laura Vitale today. ♥♥♥
_(I mean a small amount of actual Laura Vitale, not Sous Chef.)_
God bless
I love your videos thanks, SOO GOOOD 👍
Looks delicious Laura ❤❤
"guajillo" "ancho" "chile de árbol"....I just LOVE her pronunciation
I just put harissa on my baked chicken tonight! Thank you for the recipe Laura!
Cool
7:05 caught me off guard lmao
Hi Laura, I tried to find your recipe on your webpage, but it is not there. How can I obtain it? Thank you.
Hi Laura greetings from Uk What if you have your own chillies
Yummy!
Where on-line would you shol for the chilies?
Is a Moroccan-Algerian condiment itself so called harissa whom originated for thousands of years
It's Tunisian traditional chilli sauce to be fear ,, not Algerian or morrocan,, after it spread in Algeria and morroco
What spices did you use for the ground spices. Or which number episode was this one?
She just used toasted cumin and coriander powder for the spices.
I LOVE U
It is called Hareesa as in Ha! Risa..... :)
May I asked why you rinsed the dry Chili peppers?
To get off any dust on it
Libyannnn fooooddd
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Okay what are the spices though
Can you post episode number?
Usually you have to soak those dry pepper in water before you start working with them so everything is becoming easier to work with .try it!!!
She did soak them. In boiling water….
I hope you have saved those chilli seeds so you can grow your own 😊
❤❤❤😋😋😋
Can you just bottle this and sell it?
Kinda like a mole great with chicken
i remember seeing another recipe for Harissa that used walnuts also.... any Tunisians here who can tell me if that's common?
Hello, I'm Tunisian and nobody uses walnut in harissa. The recipe that you saw isn't a traditional harissa
@@lmanoula ah ok thanks good to know
@@lmanoula i came across that video again, turns out i confused it with _Muhammara_ .... sorry 'bout that
laura where did you get this recipe? harissa is an uzbek dish
It's a Tunisian dip
@@TheShakeShifter i didnt know that but i did know harissa is an islimaic dish
it's not "north african" it is Tunisian. even though Tunisia is in north Africa but it's the source and the only country that produce it
Laura harissa=caraway where is the caraway??
Also using fresh chillies is better
What am I doing wrong???
I can’t seem to find the recipe on making Harissa…
Same here!
Did you say that you live in Illinois? Thought you live in New Jersey?…
she does live in Jersey; she just happens to live in some remote part of South Jersey where buying anything vaguely 'exotic' requires at least a 40-minute drive one-way....
is it possible you mis-heard "here in the US" as "here in Illinois"?
First like 😍😍😍😍
Talk less move more
music sucks
Harissa? It’s a normal Mexican salsa. LOL
She never mentioned it’s a middle eastern condiment .. smh cultural appropriation by default
She said it was a north african hot sauce at the start of the video
It's not even from the middle east anyway. It's Tunisian.
Never heard of this but the way you make EVERYTHING(!!!) I'm def gonna try 😋🍴😍
I don’t understand why you wash them if you gona boil them I don’t wash the I just wipe them your removing the flavor but that is you
Harissa is 100% tunisian recipe, not " north African" , yes it is used wildly in the region , but it's only authenticly made in Tunisia
Harissa 🥰✌🏻🇩🇿😋😋bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This looks very delicious. I have to try this. Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe
Wow best recipe
Yumm my mouth is watering 😋

I was thinking if you rehydrate them with water first and then peeled them and took the seeds out . would be much easier and you're doing everything in one process @thesicilianguyfoodtruck
I think you would have a much hotter harissa paste then since the seeds and the white pith holding them will release their spiciness when resting in water, but if you like it extra hot then it totally makes sense !
Thank you for your Video. While it is Not north african, it is Tunisian UNESCO heritage.
