The Air Canada acquisition od Air Canada is not good news for the Canadian aviation industry. This reduces competition and shall cause prices to inceease. This happens everytime Air Canada buys out their competition. The regulators did not get this right.
Air Canada, like other major airlines, were hit hard. Many airports have been cut from the stop list & it's doubtful they will be returned once this is controlled.
I wouldn’t call the AC-Air Transat merger positive because it further limits the lack of choice for Canadians who already suffer from the lack of competition which is why air fares for them are so expensive
Yeah but Air Transat was suffering financially before Coronavirus, and since they cater to almost exclusively the tourist market they were guaranteed to go bankrupt, so a merger with Air Canada was best for everyone.

DJ You speak of the positive nature of the AirTransat buy up by AC. But most Canadians have relied on AT to provide cost effective routes to the EU and Southern destinations that we ALL UNDERSTAND WELL Air Montreal will NOT OFFER once this is done. All the nonsense of jobs protected in Quebec is "lip service" and in the end Canadians will end up paying MORE to fly anywhere without AT's aggressive charter fare style pricing in play. So really at a price per seat , you don't really understand the dynamic of the Canadian market. And if you don't believe that the Ottawa Liberal Government and Air Canada aren't in bed to crush real competition, spend some time doing your home work on Porter Airlines. See their role in the ultimate loss of the C Series to AirBus ...for $1 all thanks to the Trudeau Government and Marc Garneau killing the YTZ runway expansion that blocked Porter from buying BBD's first meaningful C Series order. days after the runway expansion was denied and Porter was forced to cxl their order....magically AC buys C Series planes.... go figure! Porter has been killing AC on all business class for less commuter routes Toronto Ottawa Montreal NYC and Boston. Not allowing them to fly C Series out of the Toronto Island airport , their main hub, effectively capped their growth . Then AC comes and buys the planes Porter now can't fly. Wake up! It's great to make these posts, but you don't really get our market and what's going on . Air Canada has consistently been allowed to swallow of defeat with Ottawa's backing, every major competitor that it's faced for decades. Westjet isn't an exception, it's just next on the list to fall. Start with CP-Air which ended up under PWA and eventually Canadian Airlines International, if you want an education in how Ottawa protects and advantages its little airline darling. And if you can find 1 Canadian who thinks selling off 100's of millions of our tax payers investment in the C Series, for a buck, to Airbus was good for Canada and our aviation sector, I'll show you and idiot.
I hate how you blame covid or "the pandemic". That language gives an excuse to the extremely illogical government leaders who caused these horrible economic losses. The problem was LOCKDOWNS not Covid.
Unfortunately for the aviation industry they have peaked in market penetration in the West. There are several reasons for this but most importantly today is what this means to the value of government subsidies. Fuel costs in the next few years is going to make air travel much more expensive than it is today meaning the number of flights will shrink, so there is really no need to prop the industry up past what it will need to be in size after recovery. The size of aircraft will need to be reduced if a wide and frequent network is going to operate and employment will need to be reduced to fit the new requirements. What will be exciting is the new energy efficient airplanes both battery electric and fuel cell electric that will enter the market in the next 1-2 decades.
Air Canada fares, compared to American counterpatts are very high, so no surprise that they've been very profitable until this year. Government bailout is not the answer. AC has operated in a near-monopolistic environment and now needs to learn how to live in a world that has changed for everyone. They're not so special that we need to provide billions so that they can keep operating as if nothing has changed.
Air Canada would be better to struggle without govt money and not be forced into keeping non-viable routes open. I say this being some one effected by the cancellation of some of AC's routes.
Personally I hope TS takes over for the Rouge product. It would help AC in terms of the public’s view of the carrier (IMHO Rouge hurt the mainline product). Then let TS transform Rouge to the premium product TS has offered over the many years. Hopefully drop Rouge completely! 🤞
@@ysfsim yes the MAX looks like it's going to be their mainline narrowbody aircraft but the XLR would fit perfectly into their Rouge or even Air Transat fleet. Given Rouge retired their 767s and only operate A319/A321 it would be a perfect fit. As for Air Transat they already operate the A321LR it would be a no brainer.
"Cargojet. The carrier did not specify whether it would acquire new-build 777Fs, used 777Fs or freighter-converted 777-300ERSFs.
Air scamada steals money from their passengers beware !
I don't know what disgusts me more, Boing Boing or their fanboys. At this point that company should be broken up.
Pandemic? First I've heard of it. I wonder what's going on over there.
CargoJet. Right by the road out here at the airport. YHZ
Really enjoy all your reporting on aircraft purchases and changes.
News from Canada is always enjoyed ..

Thorough! Good stuff.
Great video
Personally I hope TS takes over for the Rouge product. It would help AC in terms of the public’s view of the carrier (IMHO Rouge hurt the mainline product). Then let TS transform Rouge to the premium product TS has offered over the many years. Hopefully drop Rouge completely! 🤞
Damn I thought air Canada was ordering new aircraft. Hoping for A321 XLR
Haha yeah would be nice to see air canada ordering a321xlr
then why did they order the max? Would have been simpler to order the neo as they already fly a320s
I saw ANA Airbus a 380 in this video and with the olympic games coming in july it will help the airline industry.
the title was very misleading (clickbaited) and it sucks
"Cargojet. The carrier did not specify whether it would acquire new-build 777Fs, used 777Fs or freighter-converted 777-300ERSFs. Based on the capital being raised, “it would likely be either used units coming off lease, or conversions,” said Frederic Horst, managing director of Cargo Facts Consulting."
Well just watch that video I saw a beautiful thing on old 727 truly one of the greatest airplanes of all time I help build 737 so I didn’t build six 727’s but I help build 3757’s 4767’s triple sevens anyway yeah boeing707 doing what they’re doing none is bull crap like they did with the max my name is Jim mungai and it was an honor to work for that company
It’s nice to see more Canadian aviation news being talked about. Appreciate this video. Canadian airlines are still suffering majorly since there is no support from the Canadian government.
❤️ the striking new livery and enjoyed their Signature Class long haul many times (pre-pandemic). That said, ROUGE is RUBBISH all around. Kill it off. 👍🏻
What a record, delivering A/C that were at TAC/TOT status for a year. So the customer just needed to pick them up....
