Herbert has played 63 games as the starter and the record is 30 wins - 33 losses. In those 63 games, the Chargers have had 42 one-score games (over 100 since the Rivers era and most in the NFL). The Chargers have lost 23 of those one-score games since Herbert became starter (averaging 5 one-score games lost for the past 4 seasons). Herbert is 24-7 when the defense holds teams to under 25. In those 23 losses, the defense was on the field last for 15 games and couldn't stop the opponent from scoring. The Chargers have had a bottom 3-5 defense every year for the past 3 seasons. Bottom line is: the Chargers don't need to have an elite defense to win because Herbert has over 70% probability of leading the team to a victory as long as the defense is at least average and NOT bottom 5. Those 5 one-score games lost every year are 12-14 win ceilings.

@@YDCFF_ RIGHT not not mention the great Peyton Manning took 6 years to win his first playoff game, Same can be said for Drew Bress at the beginning of his career. The kid goes has gone out and put up better seasons than Burrow and Allen MULTIPLE years and his TEAM still missed the playoffs because it's a TEAM sport not a QB sport. The kid has put up a better season than Mahomes, Hurtz, as well, His rookie year is better than C.J. strouds.
Had the best first 3 seasons in the HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE SPORT and people claim he has to do EVEN MORE as opposed to what the other QBs have JUST TO WIN? It's a TEAM sport Burrow has been saved by his defense late in literally almost EVERYONE of his big games I can name them. Herbert has the worse defense and running game of ALL the top QBs. Maybe he should've started his career of with Andy Reid, or with and ELITE DEFENSE, COACHING and RUNNING GAME like Lamar Jackson and Brock Purdy have had FROM DAY 1 of their careers. 🤷🏾♂️
I know alot of fans complained about the hire but I've really enjoyed Greg's concise n matter of fact approach, he doesn't stroke the players egos and seems to be installing more of a balanced offense than the completely run heavy one fans expect.

A lot of people couldn’t admit that Lamar had a ton of limitations as a passer to start his career (which he makes up for in other ways). They blamed Greg Roman for the simplistic passing game, but he gave Lamar what he could handle. Roman even implied in this interview that Herbert is wayyyy more advanced as a passer (which is different than arm talent).

Seven of the Chargers losses last year were by three points or less. I think Harbaugh wins most of those.
There’s structure here and I love it.
In a couple of years, teams will cringe when they see the Chargers on their schedule and in the playoffs. Time and patience is needed
For 24 Herbert does not have any excuses. He was handicapped with Dunce Staley as HC. Now he has Roman and the Harbaugh so playoffs.
You don't just magic up a playoff spot. There is waaaaay more to a team than the coach and QB. Even with a relatively soft looking schedule, I'd be happy with 8-9 wins with this team. Then a playoff run next season after we have time to gel and time to fill the holes in the roster that are both obvious now, and the ones that will reveal themselves over the course of next season with our new system.
@@judgejudyandexecutioner.5223 Staley went 9-8 first yr with a weaker defense on paper. 8-9 is bogus. Our floor is 10-7. Ceiling is a SB run bc we have so many pro bowl veterans who can carry us with an actual football man at HC
@judgejudyandexecutioner.5223 But a QB(good or bad) will make or break any team. Just imagine if #15 was not the Chiefs QB? As great as Andy Reid is without Mahommes how many SB's would have? I am not say Harbaugh is anywhere like Reid but in the beginning with #7 the 49ers looked unstoppable.

Yes ✅ We can say goodbye to multiple losses by 3 points or less. We finally have strong coaches in HC, O, D and Special teams that know how to win. The 2010 Chargers had number one O and D but special teams were bottom dwellers. Not anymore. All systems go !!
