    The first puzzle is most impressive. It took me 2 minutes to solve it - in my head. I am sure I would not have discovered this over the board. I think I have seen both games (Capablanca and Aljechin) you mention, though.

      Yes, it's not a common theme, but it's not that difficult as a puzzle since it's pretty clear that's the only sequence that has any promise at all.

    Thanks Dan! I'm understanding this video as a collection of ideas that become pattern-related (or familiar) as players improve.
    For me, there are usually several steps between the time when I first learn an idea to the time when I can recognize the idea as a "pattern" in my game.
    Usually, I need to identify other positions that belong to that "pattern." And, I need to come across that "pattern" in my real game(s).
    Otherwise, the ideas that need to become pattern-related just seem to float away (unless I've included them in my Chessable reviews or Anki flashcards...)

      Yes, you are correct. Repetition and seeing it in various guises (over time or even at the start) all tend to increase recognition and make it more likely you would recognize it in a game.
