    Here's something I've always wanted to see done in these sekonic vs app or gadget videos. Also include a sekonic vs sekonic test with two of the same light meter model, so that you can have a reference of how much deviation is normal on a per unit basis

      I should have added this into the video, but my gaffer on the shoot day compared my Sekonic to his and the readings were identical.

    Bro i t seems u are using the lumu and light meters wrong.
    The lumu on reads what the phone screen is facing. Thus you have to turn the unit around on the phone.
    The recessed dome on the seckonic is the equivalent lumu flat surface.
    The expose dome of the seckonic is the dome of the lumu.
    If you compsre tgem appropriately you will get more equalivent readings.
    Another thing is calibrating the lumu. I'm assuming that they way you compared them that you know that this was possible.
    A separate iPhone is how I use the unit on set. Works great

    Take this video down, you were using it entirely wrong and admitted it at the end. Either reshoot the test or take the video down.

    You can calibrate the Lux in the app settings seeing as you already have an industry standard light meter on hand you should be able to get the lumu a lot closer to the sekonic readings

    Hi do you think is it smart to invest in c stands, grip, modifiers as newcomer cinematographers or just rent them for productions. My instinct is to invest in a full camera package so when the directors/clients hire me they can rent my camera package too. My dilemma with grips/stands equipment is that they are endless so to what point should you just rent them. That being said I do have a small minimal lighting and grip equipments for ultra small budget productions. So should I expand my lighting and grip or just rent them for the long run? I’m an independent director and cinematographer, not trying to run a production company.

      What we did was purchase a small grip and lighting kit (3 point LED lighting, 4 stands, grip and modifiers). We use this kit on small productions (under $5k) and rent lighting and grip gear for productions with more of a budget. In your case I would definitely suggest leaning more into the camera package, since that is more normal in the world of cinematographers/directors than owning grip gear.

      @@TheObsessiveDPthanks for passing down wisdom brother. I think I'm on your boat, I have a minimal light grip package for the small productions that requires me to have some lighting gears(x4 forza500, other various led lights, x5-6 c stands, and stands, 4x4 silks, and flags). I was thinking if I should expand or just rent a grip truck for big productions. Meanwhile, I can invest in something like this light meter so I can use em' on every sets😄

    All scientific luxmeters have flat sensors (like the Lumu) because that's how is the "Lux" definition (cosine response)
    Measuring "Lux" with a recessed dome of a photo/cine incident light meter is an approximation (cropped cardioid response)
    Each Lumu Probe has a "calibration certificate" (you can download from the homepage) as an official "measuring tool"

    • @jean-claudemuller3199
      @jean-claudemuller3199 Рік тому

      Edit: After verification on my own Lumu Power, the "Calibration Certificate" of the unit is not on the Lumu homepage (or I din't finf it there) but is integrated in the IPhone/iPad App, from where it can be edited (saved as a document, printed).
      In addition, measurements results can be edited, saved, printed, such as:
      individual measurement protocols with location photo, location GPS coordinates, comments
      t 0.5 t 0.1 flash curves

    I wanted to see if it was a waste of time buying a real light meter vs a iphone app, my main reason is for mobility and not having any extra stuff with me, but with your test it proves that sometimes we just have to get the right knife to cut the bread not a meat cutter. Thanks for saving me 400USD with that money i can get the real deal with tons more options not just a toy. I must say it does look cool though.

    In color mode, I used lumu power 2 pro and sekonic c-800 , and the measurement results of the two will be very different. C800 is at 7000K and the other is at 6000K. I don't know why. I don't know if you have such a situation

    • @RedEyrisFilms
      @RedEyrisFilms Рік тому

      Because one is a toy. My cinema camera does auto white balance and is not that off, and my camera is still off by 200-300k and when clients are paying you, you don't want to loose clients cause a new device can't get it right. But if your clients are 100$ the lumu2 is good enough but still is from 700$-1200$ unless you already paid for an expensive and overrated iphone. Lol

    • @jean-claudemuller3199
      @jean-claudemuller3199 Рік тому

      Lumu isn't a toy at all, The Lumu sensor is a calibrated
      You cannot compare the Lumu that is a colorimeter and the Sekonic C-800 that is a spectrometer two different tools for different tasks.

    Just remember the phone cost $$$$ the dome cost $$$$ and might be more than the light meter don't think your getting a deal or the phone is cheaper. When the iPhone can go from 300$-900$ and the lumu 2 or pro 249$- 499$ I get a light meter any day that thing and the iPhone is the price of a color meter. Lmao I got a color meter instead of that combo... and I just paid about 400$ more. They just want everyone dependent on those phones I'm good...
