      Im a Chinese who really into cars, owing a 1jz IS and use it as a daily is probably the most courageous and coolest thing you can do with cars in China. Now I moved to Britain haha😂 it truly is hard to play with car in China. Either go with classic or vintage which polished to be a garage queen or just go get a supercar, you need to be rich, really rich..

    Sweet ride that Alteeza is. Some serious engine work there. Do you have water injection on it? Look into it if you don't. You can run higher boost without detonation, or the same boost while using lower octane fuel to save money. The Buick Grand National guys have had great success with that system. For both of you though, how come no tinted windows? They really would help keep the temps down inside the car and lighten the load on the AC system.

    • @tanker9987
      @tanker9987 7 років тому +7

      Fuck water injection, lost two engines with about 20k worth of blueprinting/cnc machining/balancing because no system on the market right now offers 100% consistent flow.

    After seeing this and the stolen video, it does sadden me a bit. I like China and Korea but their car culture just plain sucks.
    I'm very curious about the HK / Japanese imports. I was under the impression RHD cars were just flat out illegal in China, apart from the HK dual licence plated cars. Being from the UK, such things are just second nature and I take it for granted. I have an imported Evo VI and paid 9k gbp. I imagine would be priced a lot higher than that with all the charges etc getting it into China and registered.

      From what i heard Laowhy86 a tuned up lamborghini one night in Shenzhen doing over 170 hit one of them blue electric taxi's, i think 4 people died and then the gov't cracked down on tuning cars, my fellow UK mate had a tune shop set up in Shenzhen and he's now back in the UK living. Which is a real shame cause there is a huge market for tuning cars, by the way guy's, 100% nailed it on Chinese wanting BMW's and the such as "status symbols" That side of Chinese culture really cracks me up, i had what i thought a really nice Chinese mate and i just started to get the feeling as being used as a status symbol, "Look at me, i'm friends with a white guy" while i seen the way he wouldn't even cheers one of the guy's that cooks BBQ street-food.. I really hate other's thinking they're some how better than some people, like as if they're s*** smells better.. anyway, good video guy's and well explained.

    Congratulations on your hard work.
    But I have a question: what are all those gauges on the dashboard?
    I know one if for the turbo boost, but what about the other ones?
    In Portugal, if I modified my car that hard, specially with it being so visible, it would not pass the annual certification.
    I am talking about a mandatory annual inspection to the all car, including brakes, engine, emissions, safety systems, suspension, etc...

    Awesome video :-) I love it... MORE Please :-) I grew up with Hot Rods and Muscle cars... I had a '23 Chevy Pick-up and later a '39 Merc Coupe... and a lot more... I went to British and European Sports Cars, Had 2 Austin-Healy - Bug-eyed Sprites that I restored and a couple of Austin-Healy 3000s then to Jags... Had an XKE convertible then, a XKE 2+2 and it goes on from there... In North America, cars are as much of a part of the culture as Apple Pie... Every kid was a back-yard mechanic and if we weren't souping it up, we were customizing it... Sheesh! I loved this video... :-) Keep them coming :-)

    What I took away .
    0 to 100 in 4s - that is really quick.
    C-Milk with that car you would make a good "Dutchman" and that has nothing to do with the Netherlands , it' a South African euphemism that Winston can no doubt explain.
    Now two things I disagree with.
    China has some of the best roads that are empty for drag racing.
    Many built for the future roads that are great and empty.
    Then old muscle cars.
    Winston , they are crap full stop.
    Good to look at but really totally POS to drive.
    Friend of mine deals in them so I have driven a few.
    Any Golf 4 drives better , brakes 500% better and outperforms any 60's /70's muscle car by a country mile whatever that means.
    Okay , you don't look as cool in a Golf but you can always wear a suit to compensate.
    Stay awesome and I see nothing wrong with your eyebrows C-Milk.

  • @AshyGr33n
    @AshyGr33n 9 років тому +26

    There isn't really a "car culture" in China. Mostly because China didn't really start proper industrialization until like 1950s, plus the whole communism deal, we were left behind during the post-war surge of car culture around the world. We didn't get to see the thrive of classic American muscles in the 70s, the group-B rally mania in the 80s or the European supercars and Japanese street cars in the 90s. The scrap laws definitely aren't helping - and sadly those laws aren't going away anytime soon, because there're already too bloody many cars in the streets and the air quality is screwed as it is.
    So yeah, cars aren't gonna be anything more than household investment or luxury gadget in China for a while. Guess I'm never gonna see a Lancia Stratos or Pontiac GTO rolling down the street of Shanghai....

    • @stefanosong9314

      +Helmstif, the Sarcastic Asianman There was no such thing as private cars before the 1980s, and Chinese car industry started development at the very beginning of 21st century. So there is no classic car culture nor car modification culture untill the recent years. And there is a huge tax on big engine cars, which was considered as more pollution and exaust from the Chinese government.
      That is why many luxury brand only import small engined models of their cars into China. This tax rate can reach 140% of the origninal price, which is ridiculus but as I can see the luxury cars costs the wealth people a lot more so it is somehow reasonable. So the international brands need to build their plants inside China instead of Import in order to decrease their prices.
      The modification of cars can be done under strict rules and after that you need to register your car to the police office, even if you put only a not so small sticker on your car ( bigger than 22% of the area of surface of car body if I was not wrong). And engine change is not legal no matter how you have done that.

    SH is dominated by a much greater percentage of UPscale Audis. BMWs. Cadillac & Mercedes SUVs, than in the US, with a relatively small percentage of Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris - which is not to say the later are absent by any means - just fewer as a percentage. And few if any 'boy racers'. Why should they when they can buy an upscale car stock that will outperform them?...
    Watching the parade at the schools where parents wait to pick up their children is like observing a State Department function or Mob funeral given the upscale cars that literally dominate.

    In desert climates you can find perfectly preserved examples for reasonable prices, except the shipping. Maybe sneak it into an e-waste container...
    Would it even be a good idea to drive such a huge unwieldy vehicle there? Some of the maneuvers you've done seem like they require better brakes than exist in America. I'm gonna completely ignore the fuel cost part of it. Just seems so dang useful and DURABLE! :D

    Jiang Ping: +laowhy86 Dude there's a reason why the CCP makes even old car expensive but cause I got a meeting right now I can't explain it. However in China we aim big and we don't do it landlord style we do it corporate style, if you want to remodel expensive cars and drive them we have a Formula Car Racing Sports Organization here to gain access to it and the benefits,1.) you need to contribute to the industry like be a good mechanic2.) you have to be a businessman deemed necessary by the state3.) you have to be a precious Formula raising driver. We don't allow expensive cars spawning everywhere because of the tendency of normal Chinese to rebel when they see something is wrong in fact party members themselves encourage do encourage scratching cars, this is a good thing because it keeps the CCP be at their best unlike in the US, ....to be continued... Shinzo Abe just arrive for a meeting.

    I will give China full credit where credit is due.
    I've seen quite the number of examples (proof) that China is well vested in improving their infrastructure. Look at the construction going on everywhere - especially the roads and public transportation system.
    Here in america les me start off with a local example. The Pittsburgh region has about one million residents in general, yet... There are at least two million registered vehicles - no joke. The infrastructure is terrible, as is the public transportation system.
    The same goes for the rest of america. The infrastructure in america is second rate at best, so bad that it is ranked the worst out of ANY G20 country. Not much has been done with infrastructure in america since the early 1950's, the water system is even worse - that a majority of the water supply system in the entire eastern half of america is about one hundred years old.

    Wait...then if you want repairs to your car it's gotta be freakin expensive since you can only have a car for 12 years, yes? And I assume you can't just go to some mechanic in town to get it fixed? You have to go to the manufacturer?
    Also, since there's not really a presence of car culture in China how do you explain car models? Are they just for the super cars? I'm getting to know this one girl from Hunan who says she's a car model :)

    • @laowhy86
      @laowhy86  9 років тому +1

      +Gerardo Garza García (匡瑞) That was the law before. Now, you just have to get your car checked 2 times per year if it is over 12 years old.
      There are car models. I dated one actually. But she worked for BMW. So they will have hot girls draped over luxury cars and the like. Supercars for sure.

    I got a heavy clutch on my car, too, and even the mechanic when driving it into the garage, having had all kinds of cars there, said it's unusually heavy. I suspect the engine might have been a spare from a racing team, with an aftermarket clutch pre-fitted. I actually like it, because it feels more direct. I like precise and sensitive inputs, and a mushy friction point is awful. And while it takes more force to operate, it never felt tedious to me.

    Sweet car. I love tuner vehicles and the whole culture. It is sad you can't enjoy it as much in China. That's all we wasted our money on in college was our cars. So much fun.
    I got some car questions for you guys.
    What's the driver training like in China? How hard is it to get a license? For example, it's challenging to get licensed in Japan or Germany because the training standards and requirements are so high and the test is actually difficult. In the US, it's pretty easy, just pass the simple test and drive around the block.
    In the US for the most part laws are well respected and followed. When I went to southern Greece it was more like a free for all and everyone did whatever they wanted (like 4 across on a 2 lane road, passing on blind corners, etc. Crazy stuff). From your videos it seems people drive slow and stupid so I was wondering about their training, and also the general populations inclination to follow road rules.
    Also, how are the traffic cops. Traffic enforcement varies wildly based on country from my experience. Here in the US the traffic cops are no joke and drive powerful police cars (lots of speed raps, enforcement, patrols). In Greece they were a joke, sat in little shacks waiting around with 50cc police scooters, and I never saw them chase or ticket anyone (that's why everyone drove crazy).

    • @laowhy86
      @laowhy86  9 років тому

      +HandgripsRaise Thanks man!
      To answer your questions:
      Driver training is really easy, but for most people in China, they will sign up for 3 months of training for about 1000$US and sit through boring driving in 80's VW Jettas, slowly. For the rest of us that know how to drive, we need to go sit an exam of 100 questions taken from a pool of 1000 questions. Many of the questions are nonsensical, though the English exam has gotten easier to decipher over the years. After that, there is a driving test. It is fairly easy. I'd say the written test is much harder than the practical, although there are some reallllly stupid rules during the drivers test (depending on your instructor) like always pulling the e-brake at a stop light.
      Traffic cops 90% of the time do ABSOLUTELY nothing. However, if there are leaders or government officials in town for a visit, you can guarantee they will be out in huge force with their white hats and white gloves. At this time they will make road blocks and stops to check cars and bikes for legality. You will see a lot of vehicles being towed away at this time. I've never seen a Chinese police car, or bike chase. We don't do chases here. Speed cameras on the other hand... man... the bane of our existence.

I am kinda worried about China buying Jeep.. the Buick Acclaim didn't go over very well here.. if they ruin Jeep I'll be kinda ticked off..
