  • At MOVE 2024, Dr. James Peng, CEO and Co-Founder of Pony.ai, outlined a bold vision for the role of autonomous driving in transforming transportation.
"We want to make the customer's autonomous ride boring," said Peng.
In his keynote workshop, "Discussing the Future of Mobility," Peng said this to emphasise the promise that autonomous mobility holds in making travel safer, more reliable, and most importantly, hassle-free.
However, he acknowledged the need for a comprehensive, ecosystem-wide approach to realize this vision.
"Autonomous mobility requires the whole ecosystem to move along. No single company can do it alone. It requires all the technical side, regulatory side, and supply chain side of the ecosystem," said Peng.
Pony.ai’s participation in MOVE was driven by the desire to engage with other key players in the ecosystem and explore collaborative opportunities. Peng highlighted how Pony.ai depends on partnerships to enhance the entire customer journey, from cabin maintenance and entertainment to construction and various in-car requirements.
The autonomous vehicle leader noted a significant milestone in their recent agreement with the government of Luxembourg to research, develop, and deploy autonomous vehicles in the country.
Peng hinted at long-term ambitions, indicating that Luxembourg is just the starting point. While the company is already operating in the US and China, the CEO assured, "We'll definitely not just stop in Luxembourg," suggesting plans for expansion across the European continent.
