Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptist Church as been vastly misused. It was to say that we would not have a state church as The Church of England. It no way implied that we did not honor The Lord. In fact, Madison was the instigator of the Chaplain of the United States Senate. During the crafting of the Constitution in Philadelphia when things had reached an impasse, it was Benjamin Franklin who stood up to admonish the delegates about the need for fasting and prayer to move forward. He reminded them that during the Revolution, it was such activity that brought about the miracles of fog, etc. which enabled the troops to win or escape. Following the period of fasting and prayer, the delegates then came together and the Constitution was completed and signed.
He is coming to Old Lyme this Thursday! ;)
