Today we're at this California card show looking to pick up some fresh inventory. And as the title suggests... what's going on with sports cards is not normal.
Is it good that prices are up and there's a lot of liquidity in the hobby? Yes.
Do I think it will last for months, quarters, or even years? I hope so.
Was it like this 2-3 years ago? No.

Paying over comps is the only way the market is ever going to go back up. I get everyone wants to get the most roi but if everyone only pays lowest comp, the value can only go down. I think people are starting to realize this.
whats funny is how one seller selling to another seller who wants a card way below comps and gets it to turn around and sell it to another seller , the question i would be asking is how many cards are actually going to the true collectors and are not passed around to sellers all year long just depleating the value of the card and as far as hobby being inflated thats the only thing thats going to keep the hobby stable just look how hard it is to get unopened products right now that should tell you to keep youre prices up dont let people low ball you

I look at card shows as wholesale car auction type environments. Dealer to dealer, dealer to wholesale value buyer (75-90%)
Ebay and other auction platforms are retail and what drives market since those are all documented sales. Card prices values move up and down based on those prices. That’s what card show attendees use for comps anyways so it all goes hand in hand. Dealers at shows are usually accepting cash only as well which has its benefits over auction platforms which take fees from sellers

Long before UA-cam, PSA, and First off The Line, there was a hobby... This hobby allowed collectors to collect and dealers to make some money... Now, each card has 300 color variations, die-cuts, sparkles, and numbered versions...
Times have changed... The cards have changed... People have changed...
A world where a Wemby has more value than a Mays, a Mantle, or a Robinson, is a bad world...
well in reality wemby is a product of the world we are in and on top of that he is one of the most prolific young talents since lebron coming out of highschool. it seems absolutely appropriate no matter how deranged it is that wemby has this kind of hype. but the gamble my friend.. that is a big one and only time will reveal if he will be justifiable on par with the names you mentioned. right now i think most have enough common sense to take any of those cards you named long term over the hype currently of wemby.
I think taxes and shipping should be added to determine comp values - not just the sold price
and fees should be taken off which makes it lower
Knock it off. You sound foolish. Most buyers don't pay taxes on purchases.
@@bubblesnz1059your looking at how much the buyer spent not the seller netted. So fees don’t effect the price of the comp.

When a player is hot u will get alot more on ebay compared to what not usally. The guys in the playoffs are high on the bay right now
yea I bought a ton of kyries when everyone hated him but now he’s good again and I’ve been selling him for 3x as much on ebay 😅

I don’t get the hype around Kaboom or Downtown cards. They are just inserts like they used to do in the junk wax era.

@@chrisfree9 they are cartoonish and not worth the thousands people drop on them. Just think how much they will NOT stand out in 10 years compared to other cards. And think of the Wenby RC which has dozens of 1/1 cards and with every new issue they make more using the same photo. Hilarious and collectors don’t even care right now. But they will one day.

Prices will never go back to the pandemic times. That’s when people thought the world was gonna end and they were gonna die so might as well buy high
@@chrisfree9The only people who thought the 'world was gonna end' during the plandemic were literal mouthbreathers. Prices are down 50-60% from those prices, and yet there are more card shows and transactions for cards than at any time in history. The hobby is doing just fine.
I know a guy with over 20 Jordan rookies. Without PSA you'd have no idea how many thousands are out there in PSA10 still. PSA sold comps are just a way the market is inflated.

I think it's stupid when vintage card on value last sale determines current value...sellers sell low for quick sale then now card is worth less bc of current sales or seller sales super high and card is now unattainable

Tried to get back into flipping, but it’s just not worth my time in this market anymore. I’ve been making more on eBay than actually shows. Hopefully this collectors market is gone in the next 4-6 months
It's still sorting itself out. There's no way most of this shiny garbage from the last few years should be pulling more than, say, low numbered nearly impossible to locate Tom Brady cards from the early 2000's.
This isn't bad yet. When you don't see many card videos on UA-cam anymore, then you'll know the csrd industry is "normalizing." SCV isn't making card videos anymore. Sasha Pool Boy is gone. Sports Card Investor will be bankrupt in three years. And people will be selling their Michael Jordan auros for baby formula.

at the end of the day selling cards its hard to make money,all the time running around going to shows,air fare,hotels,food and than you're buying cards at high prices and not making all that money back that was wasted on everything I mentioned...I was just gonna go to the show in Dallas but instead I'm gonna send all the big lebron and MJ cards I have to Prestine auction and let them do all the work,yeah I will pay the fee but I will make more with them and its safer than eBay Prestine has that reach....I feel the card market will crash its on the way now,way too many flippers now,you need the passionate collectors and I'm seeing less of that..I have a $1k card I will sell u,how about a Beckett 9.5 2017 Topps Chrome UFC Conor McGregor auto.He has a big fight coming up and that weekend his cards are gonna be red hot so 1k right now is a great movie they comp at around 1100...

This is gonna be unpopular but selling at card shows is the biggest waste of time unless you do it full time or an influencer. You will make more money selling on eBay auction. Your wasting your weekends selling at shows, 1-2 shows a year maybe lol

You know if everyone paid 80% of a 100 dollar card then it would only take 5 people to make that 100 dollar card a zero dollar card. Be smart people and sell your cards AT or ABOVE comps.
Everyone thinks they are a wise guy when your really the polar opposite in theory.
I hate to be that guy, but it would not be a zero dollar card after 5 people sell it at 80%. It would be a $32.77 card, but I understand your point here.
The thing is, people were taking 60-80% 18 months ago because card prices were so inflated that it didn’t matter. Now that the market is correcting, buyers/flippers are willing to pay a higher percentage. In the end, it’s a market place, if the buyers have more capital than sellers, the buyers have leverage. If the seller can afford to wait for the right deal, buyers are forced to make better offers.
