rolling process can be modeled by using both of Abaqus structural solvers: Abaqus/Explicit and Abaqus/Standard. you can simulate both of the cold rolling and hot rolling process by using Abaqus. rolling modelling is highly nonlinear because it includes contact modeling, plastic behavior modeling and large deformation modeling. simple rolling process can be modeled in 2d planar and 3d space. 3d modeling is more accurate because the width of the billet will change during the simulation in 3d modeling.
