Way late and I don't know if you'll see this, but I'll give it a go. One very important detail left out of the discussion of the tariff of 1828 was the fact that it wasn't designed to pass. I'm taking a class on the Civil war and Antebellum and I can't help but feel Apush and the teaching of the Antebellum era is significantly hurt by not focusing on details like this, it spices up the period and provides better understanding of the desperation behind the push for Nullification. Calhoun was directly involved in the creation of the tariff of 1828 and so it adds to the understanding of how divisive and ridiculous politics were becoming in comparison to the era of good feelings.

This is not accurate, the tariffs that were in place were about balancing trade between countries. The new tariff was a different king of Tarrif that had never before been levied. It was a Revenue generating tariff. This is why it was met with such opposition. Very little of the money was going to be used as a benefit to the south. It was all about the industrialized North.Of course, they don't want anyone to understand this, It becomes clear to see why the south was upset over the tariffs and why they considered themselves to be a separate country.
Industrial Norh vs Argarian South. Rural South vs Uban North. State Power should be "greater" than federal power. The tariffs were not of "equal" benefit to northern and southern states. The unconstitutional act was passed. Tariffs are also violate the sacred principle of "free trade". Who is John Galt? He is the ideological opposite of Robin Hood!

Thank you for that information, I couldn't agree more with you!
Also why didn’t they challenge them in court after they passed? I find these tariffs as despotic, if not more so, than the British taxes.

I do think iti is fair to say that nullification laid the groundwork for succession.
Maybe lower the background banjo music next time. Otherwise, excellent.

HB 85 woot
I’m here because of Jeopardy.
Poor starving slave owners
Isn't this what's happening in today's society? With the second amendment
Missouri HB 85 just did that
The Second Amendment is grown due to Court decisions. Current gun rights in the U.S. would be unfamiliar to the Framers.
