One of the best games on Switch right now. No padding, no side quests, no microtransactions, no level scaling, no DLC!!! Just the beautiful story, soundtrack and combat. It feels so great to play a game without all the modern issues plaguing modern RPGs and games in general.
Story is meh but I do enjoy all the boss fight (There're surprisingly plentiful of those)/ linear dungeons/ constant battling :P
My only gripe with this game aside from story is the fact that you get to unlock the "fun stuff" WAYYY too late in game.
You pretty much stick with the 2nd grade class for 80% of the playthrough which is such a shame, since 4th grade class is where the fun really begins.
@@mic01851165 I enjoyed Angela and Durans story, I haven't played the others yet. You get more story elements if you choose the right pairing of characters. Like Angela + Duran or Hawkeye + Rieze. If you choose the wrong group of characters then it becomes a random mash of stories.
It's the kind of game that you don't just "like". It's the kind of game that you fall in love with.
I'm enjoying it way more than ff7r
This was definitely a blind buy from me since I never played any of the other games and I gotta say from what I played.......
Its a really fun game and Everytime play I end up playing for hours without stopping.
I'm about 9 hours in on the Switch and I'm loving every minute of this game. My only complaint about the game is the pop in when playing. Scenes will start playing out and the full picture has not even fully loaded yet. Nothing that cant be fixed with a patch I'm sure. I definitely so not regret picking this up on the Switch.
I am having so much fun with this game. Definitely worth every penny.
I’ve been having fun with Trials of Mana.
This gives me hope for a Chrono Trigger game, be it remake or new game, in the future
Honestly, there's alot of JRPGs left in Japan that Square can take advantage to rework/remake.
Like Quitet Trilogy, Live la live & Secret of Evermore.
I think these should take higher priority before Chrono Trigger remake comes and steal all the attention.
Xenogears remake and Vagrant Story, too!
Would love a Chrono Trigger remake. Just, uh... don't let Nomura anywhere near it.
After the hot garbage Secret of Mana remake, it’s comforting that we got a great one for this game.
Kinda odd they skipped the first Mana game, but such is life.
This game is absolutely fantastic. I'm having a blast with it, the music is especially great. And of course the game remains as timeless as ever. Voicework is OK for the most part -- there are a couple of stiff moments in places, but it's still not as bad as ARC RISE FANTASIA and BATEN KAITOS I. It's tolerable. It could be better, but could be worse. Hawkeye's VA, IMO, is one of the best of the bunch. Alejandro Saab does a great job with him.
I'm a couple hours into my first playthrough. So far it's been an amazing game. Fun combat mechanics
Bought it for 35 bucks like 2 weeks ago and I'm already 50 hours deep and into my new game plus playthrough. Gotta go with Kevin bro he's a goddamn Super Saiyan Werewolf!!!
Good game this one. Really enjoyed it! Mark
I absolutely love the Remake. Honestly I actually prefer this over the FF7 Remake.
You and me both.
I thought I was crazy for thinking this but I'm glad I'm not the only one... This is how you remake a classic jrpg. Stay faithful to the og from gameplay and story, don't put in unnecessary padding, and just let the game speak for itself.
I agree. They stayed true to the source material. The FF7r went off the rails towards the end.
I fully agree with you. Played a fan translated ROM back in 2000. They even kept the music. Absolutely loving it.
This is game not comparable to the FF7 Remake. Not even a single tiny bit.
i really enjoy the music so much that i keep whistling to the music while exploring the areas or doing some grinding
Bro, I'm definitely getting it.
I was fine the English dub until I got to Lumina. He straight up sounds like they grabbed the office intern for the role so I switched to the Japanese afterwards.
Lol
Fascinating Review ! I might just get this one
Having fun with it around 15h in and loving it !
It looks like action-based DQ11.
Nobody is talking about the major improvement of Kevin’s transformation being instant now.
mehh instant or not...if Kevin rolls in your team you're gonna be OP as hell anyways XD did a run with Angela and Kevin.... Riesz was just chilling while these two were demolishing everything lol you'd even forget the third char is there when these two get busy hahaha ended up setting Riesz to pure support and stay out of the way :p Kevin in his Dark classes isn't a beast-man anymore but a MONSTER-man, and don't even get me started on Angela as Mystic Queen... i could easily solo Anise's Stockade with just her XD
I played on Switch and didn't find the frame rate being an issue.
Loading Screen, however, annoys me to no end.
It has too many loading screen, especially when you access to Bird and world map.
They got them hentai dub voice actors for this game, now I gotta play it!
Think I'll get the PS4 version
Nostalgia goggles off, its a great game!! the gameplay alone is worth the price of admission.
Enjoyed the demo! Glad ! found another game to add to my Switch collection :)
I bought this game on PS4 just because the graphics and overall finish felt smoother and l do not regret it one bit l’ve completed the game about 3 times and the fun doesn’t stop it’s such an awesome experience l love the visuals the designs and the open worlds it just feels like a true fantasy game for me 10|10 for me 🤙
For someone who's playing the last half of the game I'll say one thing, PLAY THIS GAMR GAME ON HARD. if you play it on any other setting its gonna be too easy. Just put the game on hard immediately upon starting and you'll enjoy it soo much more, especially with the boos fights... Seriously, this game has the best most well crafted boos fights I've played in a RPG in a long time.
I'm playing this on normal difficulty, 9 hrs in and it's already given me a decent challenge for me. I'm dreading when I get to the part where enemies start to petrify you because all party petrifaction = game over. Bring lots of medical herbs!
or just get a ring/bracelet which prevents petrification and equip it on one of your toons ;) problem solved.
Just finished it on PC will double-dip once it's on sale for Switch.
I wenr to target for this game only to find out none of them got it cause of everything going on. So i just went home n got it digital. Def a nostalgia trip since i played the translated rom like 20 times as a kid. Im loving it.
a m p I preordered it from Best Buy and they overnighted it via UPS.
Quality video OJ.
Trials of Mana Remake is a game I cannot wait too Play. I am Playthrough FF7: Remake still at the mo, hopefully I'll Finish before XBC:DE comes out, so I can Play ToMR first :-).
Without a doubt! This is definitely worth playing.
Chrono Trigger Remake next maybe??
I would love to see this style remake for Romancing Saga 2 or 3
Just ordered this off Amazon, hope I like it
Still waiting on my preorder..
Same here. Amazin hasnt shipped mine yet
Same. Amazon delayed RE 3 for me this month as well.
I HAVE BEEN PLAY THIS GAME AND I AM DEFINITELY IN JOYING IT.
I do love hitting RZ on the Nintendo Switch controllers in order to swap characters. 😏
Also Charlotte is baby.
I love it I beat it and doing a new game plus story right now I love Kevin story more because he get to fight a very special person and the end of the game
I've played the demo. Now time for the purchase!!!
Just a few hours more of Witcher 3. Then this...
If I were living anywhere other than China with its strange relationship with PSN, I'd probably say Dreams was my best game purchase in a long time. As Dreams is severely gimped because of where I'm living, Trials of Mana is the best game purchase I've made in a long time. The cute aesthetic doesn't always work, though. Werewolves should not be Furry anthro characters. The Beast kingdom designs are sort of sending the wrong signals.
I will say, though, I didn't hate the SoM remake as much as many people did. It's probably because SoM was the SNES game I spent the most time on. So much that it became the first Japanese game I ever bought, and I beat it entirely in Japanese because i knew it so well (it helped that I could read hiragana and katakana, so I couldn't follow the story per se, but in battle was usually ok.) I was disappointed by the SoM remake, for sure, and the slight gameplay changes that happened just because of the 360 battle system and 3d environment actually made it worse, but the running system was better than the original, the AI characters couldn't get you stuck somewhere by getting caught on something, and I liked the fireside chats. I also liked upping the item limit, since that was always super frustrating and even SD3 didn't have that issue.
You mentioned the monster designs in this, and I loved them. All of them except the damned Werewolves. In SoM remake, though, there were some truly awful decisions. Lilabuds, for instance, were designed to camouflage themselves and surprise you in the original. Their terrible design in the remake made that literally impossible. Oh, and the music was terrible, while the Trials remake music is wonderful (except "Don't hunt the fairy" which seems to have mixed up the melody and harmony and it sounds really weird, at least if you're familiar with the original song)
The battle system and battle maps were changed a LOT more in ToM remake, and it always felt right. Having actual 3d battle instead of battles that don't work right because they're kind of 3d now (as in SoM remake) was the only logical choice, and the jump function (and reworked battle maps to accommodate) still somehow feels like the original even though you know it can't be. SoM just felt like a bad imitation at points. I also don't like how 4 of the trophies essentially come down to the most mindnumbing grinding possible, as the hidden weapon orbs and armor can only be found extremely rarely by certain high level monsters. I guess if you're a switch player, you don't care about that (or does the switch have a cross-game achievement system?) So it comes down to chance or the patience to kill the same 6 monsters hundreds of times... I guess that's still better than Chocobo racing in FFX.
So excited. Never forgave Square Enix for keeping it from us in the SNES version. After the demo, must buy...
I highly recommend but play the demo first to see if its a game youre gonna like
Bought both the Switch and PS4 version. Definitely doing my playthrough on the PS4.
This is what a remake should be like! Very well done SE... too bad you guys are aspiring too much to be like EA and Activision blizzard with all the overmonetized live service garbage... this game really proved you guys still have that good old square magic!!
switch is 30 fps and i like play turn based on handheld
and pc have denuvo so i go with ps4
Hopping secret of evermore gets this treatment.. likely wont though, as it is squares redheaded stepchild game.
This game actually looks pretty fun! can't wait to play it on my Switch :P
I want to get it but I’m hooked on animal crossing, so I haven’t been playing other games lol
Same here
I have one question does every character have a different ending? do I need to play the game 6 times one per cataczer or twice as there are 3 characters per party. Btw if this sells I would bet money on the fact that they would remake the gameboy game
Yes, every character have their own ending, even if some of them shares some major enemies, their endings are unique
Platinum takes 3 full playthrough so it will ask you to at least use the 6 characthers threres also a lot of variation in the storyline depending on who you pick..so after you are done with the first game i suggest looking it up on the net so you dont waste time
YES
I personally wanna play the pc version
Were some of the characters designed by akira toriyama?
The ToM remake's character designer is HACCAN, whose designs can also be seen in the mobile game, Fire Emblem Heroes.
Its a good game on the switch or ps4
Found a copy at Walmart. Too bad Naruto Ninja Storm 4 isn't physical.
I'll probably get it once I Platinum FFVII Remake.
Mentendo Power this is a true remake. No Nomura'ing.
Exactly what I did.
@@tomsimmons7673 I don't mind that they changed things. Tbf FF7 ending was pretty bleak. Square knows they have an opportunity to alter course, and breaking away from the original continuity isn't a bad thing unless you're of the mindset that things shouldn't change for the sake of preserving that tone of despair.
It’s not a true remake because they changed to combat system along with the story. This game is almost 1 to 1 with the original game as a true remake should be. FF7 remake it’s still a good game but should’ve been marketed as a reboot cause that is what it is.
Why does Kevin look like a furry doe?
no. After playing ff7r this is kind of disappointing for almost the same price. The original Trials of Mana was better. This is just a copy paste with nice character model but unrefined under every point of view
New attacks, new content, new gameplay, new classes, New engine, dodge rolling, remastered tracks. Not sure why you're claiming the original is better when it's not.
yo
I’m playing it on PC... FPS matter
It's ok, but wayy too easy.
Area's can be breezed through with no trouble, and the enemies present no challenge at all, it's kinda pathetic how easy the game is.
Not that far into the game, but this is honestly a concern I had immediately playing the demo. Hoping the difficulty ramps up later.
Platined it alrrady here and nope overall easy with the right builds, with angela you even one shot bosses on hard
Unfortunately, I got Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition to prepare for...
So...
Skip!!
You've got a full month till it comes out
@@ogdanny5933 Trust me, Xenoblade takes priority for me.
@@johnheuslerjr9623 if you need a month to prepare for a video game perhaps you might want to get a life.

I mean, I'm not buying any other video games before Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition... Regardless of how great the current games are...
@@johnheuslerjr9623 I get that. You made it sound like you were only preparing for Xenoblade. That's cool. This is a fun game. Playing this and DQ 11 currently.
If you are cheapskate you can get it on pc for free.
Skidrow cough cough.
Get lost moron
Yes
I preordered it on Switch and Best Buy overnighted it.
I need to pick up this one!
Major hype. Got my jawn coming tuesday
100% worth it.
Takes me back to my childhood.
They shouldve done FF7 Remake in this style IMO.
