A room like this definitely needs a secret entrance, like close off the area around it with walls then make the entrance a hinged bookcase, wine shelf or something along those lines. Great mockups by the way!
That one wall with all the brick openings reminds me of the old ovens that were built into the brick walls that they used to bake bread or pizzas. Really cool looking.
@@Schoolhousehomestead It's anything but boring!! It's the exact opposite of boring!! It's the fascinating history of how your home has come to be your home and all that it's lived before!! You could do an entire documentary of it's history and it would be incredible.
I was startled when I saw your light fixture. That is exactly the kind we had in our Sixth Grade building when we had the 1965 earthquake here in Washington. Our teacher was a bit of bird brain, and thought what we should do is have 32 students all in one doorway. I was the last person to leave the room and as I was leaving I saw all the light fixtures in the room crashing against the ceiling. It was something for a 11 year old guy to behold.
I love that Mosaic floor with the Brick. Very cool. Our mom's house has some really cool iron gates between the living room, dining room, and bedrooms. They have little wrought Iron rose buds on them. It's a Tudor house. Maybe you can find some cool gates in one of your antique stores.
Super fun. Can’t wait to see it. In my humble opinion I think the neon sign should be moved up to the right of the iron door. It looks cramped where it is. On that bigger wall it would have more room to breathe and be seen. Also when you peek in the iron door your tummy is brushing against the sign. Just an idea to consider, please don’t take my idea/comment as a negative, it’s just something to consider.
Absolutely love all you guys are doing in this fabulous old building. You must be the Queen of Patience to refinish all those doors. Long time fan here of This Old House. Your videos are just as satisfying. We renovated our own 1795 Federal style house in upstate NY when we were first married. Took us almost 20 years as we did 95% of the work ourselves and started a family while we lived in it. I still have one of our old refinished doors as the base to my art desk. Thanks for sharing your progress along the way.
All that history you find out about the engine and its various functions always fascinates me. Those wood floors look beautiful even in an unfinished state. They will be gorgeous when finished!
I am always excited when I get a notice of one of your updates. Love the evolution of the cocktail room. The flooring looks amazing. The tile work - very nice . The finished masonry and beautiful doors . . . etc. So gr8 to see every detail of your project transformation . . and how much you are invested in turning your dreams into reality.
LOVE the cellar and the idea of doing a mosaic floor (and letting the kids help) -- it's GREAT! The floors also look so good! You are such an inspiration! For years, I've thought about buying an old school or post office, or some other institutional building and repurposing it as a house. There are just so many ways to be creative with really great (and funky) spaces. Your videos are par for the course. Thanks again for sharing your adventures with all of us!
Doing it as the mat style makes it where the kids can totally help & then the tile guy can install it in a professional manner. Because having kids help directly on the floor when there is mastic and grout is not condusive to long term use. But the way you did those others... they can totally do that with y'all.
Love the cocktail cellar. Thank you for selecting wooden floors that are similar to what would have been there. That bathroom is really looking up. The kids bathroom is also well on its way. It is exciting when you post.
I love the cocktail room! Many homes in my village have wine caves. I do love my local wines….but I am a cocktail girl! Cannot wait to see that light. My mum went to a one room school house for 8 years. When the closed the school, she went back and got her desk. It’s like the ones on Little House on the Prairie with the seat in front and the desk behind. I used it as my bedside table growing up. My dolls sat on the seat!
I absolutely LOVE what you’re doing. I dream of someday buying an amazing old property and restoring it to its former grandeur. I love that you’re sourcing items from architectural salvage. I love that you’re stripping original pieces and refinishing them. I love it all and I’m living vicariously through you! Thank you for letting us all tag along on your adventure! 😍🤩
Missed the last month or so of videos so I got to binge on them this evening. The school is turning into such a beautiful home -- love the exposed brick!!!! That was a great decision. And I also love the idea of the "mural" of plaster in your bathroom -- it looks like abstract art. I really appreciate how you highlight and credit the work of so many skilled people (masons, tilers, painters, etc.). If we lived anywhere near you, I'd be writing down their names for future work (but we're in Maryland).
Lookin GOOD! I went to Center Grove School and back then the old high school still stood. It became the 'Middle Building." There are so many things in your home that were in that building. The engine room, the old brick, big thick doors, uneven concrete, and creaky old wood floors. Chunks of plaster would sometimes fall from the ceiling... brings back so many memories. Then they tore it down! Anyway, I always enjoy seeing your updates, please keep'm coming!
just spent the last idk how much time watching all of this progress on your channel. so cool to see it go from messy and complicated to finally being tiled and decorated. definitely looking forward to seeing it come together!!
I am loving this series. This home is going to be gorgeous! I used to live in Noblesville, IN for many years. Love Indiana! You are putting a crazy amount of work and money into this, but I love the doors you redid, and the floors! Restoring the brick….WOW! The mosaic! I love what you have in mind for the little cellar. Love, love, love it all! Thank you for sharing!💕
This is so exciting! I’m sort of glad I hadn’t found you sooner because I have a terrible time being patient! I’ve binged everything thus far and will be waiting (impatiently, of course) for the next installment!

Love the space where you’ll be mixing n experimenting with your cocktails. The design you want for it is awesome n that mosaic tile on the floor, oh be still my heart….it’s gorgeous. Yep, it’s starting to look like someone will be living in this big space. ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟

I think what you all are doing is awesome! I grew up in a small South Georgia town with old schools. Only one remains and it is on a historical list. These old schools need to be saved and upscaled, so “Good on you” as the Aussie’s say. I mean this very respectfully… your voice sounds very much like a DJ I listen to on K-Love radio. You and Lauree on that station sound very much alike. It makes your videos sound great and fun to watch! Many Blessings, Kurt of Canter Reed
So excited to see these updates! When it's all done you should host some sort of party as a fundraiser for your restoration efforts, I know I would pay to attend a party at this gorgeous place! 😍
I love this, gosh you, your husband and your family are amazing! I stopped drinking alcohol years ago, however I cook with everything not excluding wines, cognac's , burbon's, whiskey's, the flavors can be alarmingly amazing! An Air exchanger.....cool beans! been following this project for awhile and it's really coming together. Those bathrooms are looking good! Is there a floor plan anywhere? WOW, the progress is really looking good, especially with the wood flooring. Love the shoutout to LG for their appliances. Here in Korea, they are the "go to" for the best appliances in our homes. Here's a few thoughts for the layout of the "speakeasy" space. Maybe on the left, set up a half workbench on one side for making cocktails and bottle shelving on the other half. How about on the right, just a small table with some fashionable garden chairs? And then some floating shelves on the far wall for vertical bottle displays. Instead of a chandelier, how about some LED strip lights? These are just some fun ideas, nothing too serious. Loving your content and SO excited to see the next video!
I remember my elementary school had an engine room. It was actually partially glassed in. I remember being so fascinated as a kid looking through that window at the engine room.
When I first saw that creepy area I was thinking it would be a really cool place for a pizza oven! The open hole the bricks enclosing the area! Could be fun!
Definitely looking forward to the mosaic floor, especially after you found that stone graveyard place. So long as you don’t go crazy ornate with the pattern, I’m sure your kids will love doing it with you. And might I suggest a tin ceiling tile for that room as well? Don’t come down on your ideas.
