This is the best most understandable tutorial on making pysanky eggs. Your voice, manor, and informative video, has helped me more than a class that I attended and other video tutorials. Thank you so much for giving me back the enjoyment of this art!

    Dear Rebecca.
What a great video! I love the way you encourage the viewer to make brave decisions! It's not a line that went bad and spoiled your whole egg - it's a new design feature for another unique piece of art!
I love to do Sorbian Easter Eggs in techniques called wax embossing and wax painting. We'll - I'm getting better but the road is long...
Now my question - what dye do you use to paint the eggs? Especially the black dye and the red one in this other video of yours. The golden one looks fantastic, too!

Thank you for your lovely response! The eggs are dyed vs painted and all the dyes I use are specifically made for Pysanky (sometimes called Batik dyes). Feel free to check out my Basics of Pysanky video - where you can see the actual packets and how to use them. Hope this helps!

Wonderful tutorial. I am always looking for another artistic craft to learn and share with my kids and granddaughter. We will be using your techniques to decorate this year. Thank you for the amazing videos and the explanation of the designs meaning.

This egg you've made is soo beautiful. The other eggs on your table look wonderful, too. Are all the eggs white, or are there any brown one? Thanks a lot for this great Video!

Yes, quite a few are brown eggs. Some of those, I’ve also used the etching technique too, to get the varied brown shades. So glad you enjoyed!

Thank you, so much. Would you happen to have links to the tools and supplies you use for your eggs?

Thank you for watching! I don't have a specific link, but you can find basic supply 'kits' on Amazon, which are great: kistka sticks (medium tips are easiest to start with), wax and dyes. You can also find supplies on Etsy or sites like Ukrainian EggCessories. If you happen to live close to NYC, the Ukrainian Museum on East 6th St. is also a wonderful place to shop. Hope this helps!

I only have fresh brown and green eggs. I've watched the brown egg etching. But can I use store bought white eggs for pysanki?

You can use any eggs you'd like for Pysanky! It's fun to see how the colors take on different shell colors. Just make sure the shells are cleaned and room temperature before you start. Enjoy!
