    Glad I was able to crack you up with my Hogue Ritter in my sleep comment! Before I got my first crk, I wondered if all the hype was real. I then purchased a 2015 large sebenza 21 with unique graphics and tiger's eye inlay in mint condition from a seller on UA-cam. When I disassembled it and put it back together, I got it. The fit and finish and tight tolerances are at a level above any other production knife I've come across. No fussing with little torx screws. Put it back together and boom, no bladeplay and perfectly centered. I've since picked up an umnumzaan and a large inkosi with tanto blade with natural micarta inlays, (my most expensive knife to date). I think that most people who think these knives are overpriced and are over hyped, have never handled one, and definitely haven't taken one down and reassembled. Nice to hear your review reflects my feelings to the T.
    And you need to review a large sebenza 21. You'll be equally impressed. The bushing pivot gives them even more of that glassy smoothness. Have a great day man!

    Someone else who carries a Rovyvon! Finally! Been carrying mine on my Keychain and using it frequently for the past 3 years. It's seen serious use. One day, redoing the ventilation system below a mansion, we needed another flashlight and luckily I had my Rovyvon. It served me well and was bright as hell

    I definitely like the Boba Fett used look that knives with bead-blasted or anodized finished get. And at the same time, I haven’t carried my new Inkosi yet haha still haven’t gotten the first scratch. I hope there’s an update on the Umnumzaan that angles the pocket clip like the Inkosi, just like the update to the Sebenza 31. In fact, I may have to plan on the 31 next year lol.

    I finally had to scratch sebenza that itch so I preordered the 31 (from knife center). As the pain of waiting grew I broke and just today I bought the umnumzaan (from blades hq). So I'll finally get to scratch that itch next week.

    Chris Reeves, Harley Davidson, Randall, and Colt, I've spent many days with just those four items and never felt a need for something with more dependability, or quality, and was never disappointed with the decision to purchase any.

    Just got my first Umnumzaan the other day. I absolutely love it but the detent is insane! I have 3 other CRKs and none have been this stiff out of the box. Until it's more broken in, I've actually been using the "glass breaker" on the top to front flip it open and it's actually way easier (and safer) than white-knuckling the thumb stud to get it open. I've always hated front-flippers and flippers in general really but I'm really loving it on this knife.

    I like that the sharp swedge isn’t protruding on the silhouette of the frame. When that happens, I lose pockets !!! And sometimes the pants cost more to replace over and over - I wrap those in a hank and still carry them but have to make sure I’m not cutting my pants while carrying any sharp swedges!!

    The tolerances of CRK production has a lot to do with the feel of the blade action...but the diameter size of those washers also contributes...I don’t know why other makers don’t utilize similar parts

    12:04 I use the "glass-breaker" to open/top flip it with my left hand cause I can't, for the life of me, open mine left-handed with the studs (I can obviously open it right-handed😂🤷‍♂️). Sometimes I have something in my right hand and need to make a cut, so the nub comes in handy haha on a side note, you can top flip an umnumzaan with the right grip

    The only thing I think you missed about the umnumzaan is the glass breaker. But you might have said something I started watching while I was taking a shower so I might have missed it. Great review and a great knife. And this time you had the right model on hand. Lol its always a treat so see a righty struggle a bit opening a left handed knife. Man I love Chris Reeves knives, I think they're the only folding blade I'd stake on being dependable in a real shit show type of situation. I could just never get around that corner mentally, buying a folding blade over a fixed blade if I want a real work horse of a knife.

  • @jarrettvoyzey9893
    @jarrettvoyzey9893 2 роки тому +2

    As far as hard use goes, the Sebenza is more robust. The only aspect that isn’t is the pivot which is a non issue, but the tip is much beefier due to the lack of a swedge. Also, my Inkosi insingo is much thinner behind the edge than my Sebenza 21 Insingo as well as at the tip. Just an FYI for anyone concerned about blade durability.
    If you like to flick your knives then get an Umnumzaan because the thing just flies out with no effort. All you do is flick straight toward the front of the knife. The Sebenza and Inkosi takes a bit more finesse to pull off because its more of a “circular” motion. The thumb studs are also the most comfortable out of all of them as well.
    You cannot go wrong with an Umnumzaan. If I could only keep one CRK, I’d choose the Zaan.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  2 роки тому +2

      The Sebenza is definitely not more robust than the Umnumzaan. I'm sure it's plenty capable, but the Zaan is a bigger, beefier knife in every way. The swedge on the Zaan doesn't reduce its durability in any way. The tip on the Seb is almost like a needle.

    • @jarrettvoyzey9893
      @jarrettvoyzey9893 2 роки тому

      @@metal_complex how exactly does a swedge not reduce the durability? There has been metal removed where on the Sebenza there isn't. Of course the blade stock is slightly thicker on the Zaan at the spine, but that is negated by the swedge toward the very tip.
      The primary bevel seems to be ground pretty similar to a Sebenza although I've heard that its hollow grind is somewhere between an Sebenza and an Inkosi. If that's the case then it's a tad thinner than a Sebenza because like I said before, my Inkosi is the most delicate of the three.
      Just my observations after spending the dough. Maybe there is variation in the manufacturing process IDK.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  2 роки тому

      Think about the sebenza blade and think abut the Zaan blade. The Zaan has an added "Harpoon notch" at the end and the sebenza doesn't. Even though this area is the swedge, that notch in the Zaan is actually added material if you're directly comparing it to the Sebenza. On top of that, the geometry out at the end of the zaan is wayyyy more robust. The blade stock is, as you said, thicker too. Swedge or no swedge, the Zaan has much, much more material out at the tip vs the Seb.
      The Zaan is widely known as the more robust knife. It's been this way for many years.
