In the Balkans, there's a huge thing between what constitutes a proper filling for burek. In Bosnia, it's meat. In Serbia, it's cottage cheese. Pretty sure it could start a war at one point. In Slovenia, we don't really care all that much. We also have a pizza burek, which is filled with stuff you'd normally put on a pizza.
I think that yogurt is called ayran I remember when I was In turkey and poured it in my cereal on accident lolll on some American shit I definitely got laughed at by my ex In izmir
My girlfriend is from Albania and she told me that that's not authentic burek. There is a cafe in Astoria that makes authentic burek. Burek is supposed to be a spiral shape that you break off pieces and dip into the yogurt
Not sure where they're from at Burek's pizza, but it may be a regional difference or an adaptation based on what's available in the US. It's still a burek for sure though. What's the spot in Astoria? I want to go
@@EatingWithRobert I'm sorry I forgot the name we googled the place. There are 2 spots one is a cafe and the other is a factory that makes them for wholesale only.

By the way friend, byrek is originally Turkish but the whole of the Balkans eat it in their own styles. In Albania, we have different versions depending on the region. Central Albania has thin byrek. Triangle street food style is THE BEST! Onion and tomato is the best. Cheese/gjizë is second best. Add some salt to the dhall, yogurt drink. Its bomb.

Looks incredible!!
The best byrek is the thin one. Onions and tomatoes. Triangle Albanian street food style preferred. Anyways. Great to see my Albanians doing well!
