This video is about the different ways that scientists have pictured the atoms over the years. It starts with Democritus and Leucippus, the first philosophers to discuss atoms. Then John Dalton did experiments on atomic theory. J.J. Thompson proposed the plum pudding model of the atom when he discovered electrons, and Ernest Rutherford countered with the nuclear atom when he discovered the nucleus in the gold foil experiment. Niels Bohr imagined that electrons circled the nucleus in orbits, and Erwin Schrodinger's quantum mechanical model pictures electrons buzzing around in orbitals.

Tyler! Tyler! Tyler...I'm 45 yrs old and going back to vocational school. Started reading my books and overwhelmed even while reminding myself it's the first read of many before I start to absorb information. I never even took Biology and here I am in Anatomy/Physiology at once. Thank you for your videos. Your gift of teaching is so appreciated. Who would of thought how much we can learn through this "internet" stuff. Thanks again! :-)

I think every teacher should give an introduction like trivia, history, etc to almost any subjects before the class begin. Just like what you said about Democritus, somehow it pumped me up a little bit more, to learn and to appreciate science.

Love your videos, don’t love how you use the word “lying” at the end, only in the context of recent trending spike of antagonism against science, especially online/on this platform especially. You’re not lying, you’re simplifying for the purpose of understanding, which is utterly acceptable, and I appreciate, because an understanding of chemistry never came to me as easily as an understanding of other sciences.
On another note, your explanation of the schrodinger model has left me with a lot of questions, in particular regarding absolute states of electrons when charged by photons (I came here from a series of videos trying to explain spectroscopy, in case that gives some context), but I evidently need to watch a little more before knowing the right questions to ask about either subject. Do you have a website that best describes which order to watch your videos? Is it just the order you uploaded them on UA-cam? I’m starting to watch your playlists, but they seem to go back and forth in terms of level of understanding

I vaguely remember... some of these concepts... The Bohr model was used in the classes I took to explain atoms, except I've been led to believe that's how atoms work and this is the first time I've seen orbitals at all (at least, I *think*... the material was difficult enough to learn already, even if I _did_ have an awesome science teacher).
So thanks for clearing that up for me, like, ten years later. :P Will happily watch the rest of this series.

Great video. But one fact i wish you included in the video is that according to Quantum mechanics theory of atomic model , The electrons are not buzzing around like flies drawing those shapes, instead they are more like wave form and have an area of probability where the electron lies. when disturbed the electrons behaves like a particle , when undisturbed electrons behaves like a wave . That dual form of electron is what created curiosity and pushed scientists to experiment and think about adopting atomic model based on quantum mechanics theory which accommodates wave form .
PS : this is my understanding about atomic model by reading articles and watching many videos.
