  • Munadori (胸取り), “chest grab”, is when the attacker grabs your jacket by the chest. Here are some basic aikido techniques against munadori.
    Usually, munadori is practiced with a single hand grip, like in this video, but a two-handed grip is treated much the same.
    Ideally, the aikido defense begins before the chest grab is applied, which is done in jutai (soft body) training, but it is important to also practice the techniques in gotai (static body), where the grab is applied before you start. That can be quite a challenge when the attacker’s grip is firm. All the techniques on this video are from gotai.
    We recorded this back in 2019, but I didn’t get around to editing it until now, four years later. We’ve made no other aikido video in the meantime. My uke Stephan Schröder moved abroad - and then there was that covid thing...

    Learning from Los Angeles. Munedori has been quite a struggle for many to a point that many teachers don’t teach it. Thanks for making it clear and easy to understand. Learning a lot from Sensei.

    Looks very effective. Would you describe your style to be similar to Iwama (Saito) in contrast to Aikikai? Seems to be, which I prefer. Beautiful video.

      Thank you, Jesse. I guess that I'm a mix of several influences, such as Nishio and Tamura. There are also some Iwama friends who have impressed me.

    good stuff, it's surprising how little the aikikai trains the lapel grabs, I went from 30 years in aikido to BJJ and I'm still wondering about the aikido answers to common judo grabs... maybe you could do a whole video on the aikido answers to the most common BJJ and Judo grabs and attacks... I think I heard about an old book about all the aikido responses to judo or something like this... I know they are there but we seldom train like that... the most common thing I encountered in BJJ was the cuff grab, grabbing two collars with two hands and pulling or cross choking, grabbing one collar...

      There are some typical judo grabs practiced regularly in aikido, such as ryo katadori, grabbing both shoulders. I have shown some aikido responses to it in my videos. But it has to be said: skilled judoka are not easy to outmaneuver. Of course, that is true about every martial artist doing their own thing.

    What kind of mental disorder does one have to possess in order to think this will ever work?

    • @VenturaIT
      @VenturaIT Рік тому

      it will work, you should try training it in a safe dojo to understand

      @@VenturaIT it will make me end up in the ER or in a grave if I ever tried it. Best case scenario I would end up on UA-cam and everyone would laugh at my stupid face; just like everyone is laughing at this clown.
