growing up i used to live by the railway line near balbriggan station and i remember as a kid seeing a commuter train haul a dart. i remember thinking all these years i must've been dreaming but seeing this makes me think perhaps it did happen. still don't know why it would be headed towards drogheda though.
It was getting a full body overhaul there. Then it was brought to a place in Antrim where it's interior was fitted. Then they went by road to North Wall.
@@irishrailtrains Thanks for that explanation. I know where the fit out place is in Antrim. It is called Mivan and is about 8 miles from where I live. This refurb must have cost a fortune.
Because it needed service that the depot couldn't do in Fairview, it would go to the depot in Drogheda. The line up to Drogheda isn't electrified so it would need a tow by a diesel there. They cant use any Locomotives, but they can use a Multiple Unit.
I know 29107 was taking a Dart to the railcar maintenance depot in Drogheda for work that can't be done in the Depot in Fairview. why not use an 071or a 201 locomotive to tow it there. I have been through Connolly station a bit in December. There were always two 201 class locomotives on Connolly Shed. Irish Rail and Translink were running railcars. In the Enterprise so they weren't needed there. I know the Dart railcar can't run that far on it's own as the lines not electrified. Bit of a waste of a class 29,000 railcar.
The 071 and 201 class doesn't have the Scharfenberg coupler, and the 29000, 22000 both have the coupler that is on the Darts. If they were to have an adapter for 071, there is more problems that comes with that. The 071 and 201 use the Hook and air line connector I believe.
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it. Those tail lights are only used on the Darts when they are being transferred when they're going to with Drogheda or Inchicore

It is going to the railcar depot by Drogheda Station for work that can't be done at the Dart depot in fairview

Why there was dart attached to 29000
