Possibly the best I’ve seen, no platitudes, insta-subscription. My father, born in 1915, adored band jazz.. It was the first music I heard in 1955. It’s a language, given by non terrestrials. Notice that black men across the planet , know this mental medium. South Africa, possible the most advanced musicians, anywhere.🇲🇱
I come back to this year on year, and the quality of playing gives it so much substance that I'm starting to think my rainy Northern English town is a NY Broadway; neon reflecting in the shiny wet pavement, yellow taxi's honking horns...steam coming up from the vents...
All these artists are amazing...worthy of thanks and admiration to their gift. No song lives if the drummer kills it dead not connecting. The good bass is his best friend. The pianist is his brother...as are horns. Its family in sound and spirit when it goes well. Yes the bass was equally great as any. Nobody here shoulda been slighted. Percussion is spices for your sonic food. God gave them talent. They gave it back by perfecting it. Me a drummer/singer...I know God loves polished lively music
The percussion on this track is freaking otherworldly! The Congo the cow bell the cymbol work the snare drums and that driving kick drum that just fill this song with energy.
Great Stuff for real! Sax player is out of this world. Heck, anyone that shows up to a session with a pick in their hair has got to be a force to reckon with lol.
You made me like the saxophone and thats saying something. THANK YOU love from Switzerland (the pick in your hair is so FIERCE just like your playing 😍😍😍)
If I were going to make a guess from listening to this, I'd say that he isn't exactly a church musician - he's better described as a jazz musician who took a job in the Black Church to get a regular paycheck, and regular gigs playing for a place full of people.
Man...I shouldn't have listened to this before going to bed. It's gonna take all of my wife's essential oils to conk me out now. Such a heavy groove. Killin!
Great vibe!! This seems to be a tribute to the great Madiba of South Africa, but at the same time it sounds very Cameroonian. It feels like home in this album!
For real ! I'm cameroonian as well and while listening to that masterpiece of afrojazz I was just feeling like if Richard bona and Manu Dibango made this!!! Those guys must have some cameroonian blood in their veins !
We are not talking about music...it´s share a tasty experience (made with musical skills + a strong background + a real and honest feeling) We just need taste it and enjoy it. Thanks Shaun
Love the sound and playing from the bassist on these Martin-sessions. Believe his name is Keith Taylor, but I can't find much information on him. What a player!
At 5:12, after getting absolutely destroyed by the sax and piano solo, the bassists brings a solid foundation back to ground the song. Man is a machine that has heart. I love this part.
It may be possible to have hope without art - its impossible to have art, music here, without hope! Music as art, is the ultimate 'because!' - why live? why love? why hope? why believe? why trust? Because this!
I have a few questions regarding Jason Davis. How's he this good? How's he that groovy? How does he swing that hard? If he's so great as shown in this video why the heck haven't I heard from him before this album? And finally what are some of his earlier works?/where has he been all this time? (BTW if someone would actually answer the last two questions that'll be great thanks)
