Part of the enjoyment of watching a fact channel isn’t just learning something new-it’s also about the delivery. People like you have a talent for storytelling, and it’s fun to hear a great story told by a skilled storyteller, even if it’s one we’ve already heard. A good story becomes even better when it’s shared with a fresh perspective or entertaining style.
@@LeClaw Citation needed was a game show format before the podcast. The episode about Jack Churchill was 7 years ago. I immediately got the topic of the video, because I remembered the fact from that citation needed episode.
And while they did mention all the bullshit items from WWII mentioned here, they did cite "surfing the Severn Bore" and "tossing his briefcase into his own garden" as things from after the war that illustrated his continued eccentricity. 😉😂
To be fair to the people asking you to talk about things they already know - there's a very human desire to share something you love with others, even if it's just an amusing factoid you read on the internet. And your own video on this subject shows that, when done well, there are almost always novel ways to present things! Either way, nice video! Keep it up 😁
The ‘bagpipes on D-Day’ story is sort of based on a true story, but it was a man called Bill Millin, who marched across Sword beach playing bagpipes, barely armed. Total hero. He has a memorial in Normandy, I met his son there at the last celebrations.
Ok so while I have not repeated your stories, I have used some of your tricks from talking about working in a racecourse or hotel and they have gotten me a decent tip on occasion. Specifically the Moet story, I distinctly remember 5 guys getting pissy about that lol
Jack Churchill was also captured and held as a POW at the POW camp attached to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp… from where he escaped but did get recaptured some time later. I know this as I have been there and seen the room he was held in with a plaque commemorating it.
I would have thought this story was well known thanks to Citation Needed and Lateral (and maybe mentioned on The Technical Difficulties?) but maybe I'm just a big Tom Scott fan
As for retelling facts you made me aware of: I am a teacher and sometimes when close to the holidays or after an exam or when you have to substitute for a sick colleague on short notice, and there isn't much to be done in terms of actual lessons I still like to do something "educational" rather than just watching a film or playing a random game. So I like to play a little game (the idea of which I stole from a German podcast) called "Things that sound like facts". And I tell them something and let them ask 5 questions (which I answer, but not necessarily truthful), and they then have to guess whether what I said is true or just made up. And for the true ones I have for sure used some things I had learned off Fact Fiend. I definitely remember using the Peter Tordenskjold story about asking the enemy ship for cannon balls.
I'm just straight up sharing the videos on discord over to my friends, indeed, yes. I never retold the stories you've told of your own life as if it was my own though.
Alright, I'll bite the engagement bait. :P People asking you to cover a topic so that other people can learn about that topic. You know, the same reason you had so many Robocop videos, because you wanted people to know about Robocop lore and behind the scenes trivia. It's not that they want you to tell them things they know, they hope that you take an interest in the topic and use your platform to share that knowledge.
You can't title the video like this and expect me to not 1. Ask WHAT'S IN THE BOX?! 2. watch to find out what's in the box I mean "suitcase shenanigans" its too eye catching lol
So i jave a friend Catl, and we loved together a few times in our twenties. In Vermont and in Seattle, but one thing we got really into were two player video games and some of our favorites are RE5 mercenaries and Rainbow six vegas 2 terrorists hunt, which we played at top difficulty and max number of terrorists. So it was really funny to me when you told stories about playimg those games with your friend back in the day. Well havent been able to get networked terrorists hunt to work lately since they shut down the servers RIP one of my favorite games ever.
whenever I butcher any of your facts in a social setting, I'll always send a link to your video afterwards. Usually accompanied by "he tells it way better". If you're ever looking for a good read, I can't recommend anything funnier than; The Bible - According to Spike Milligan
..... Tell the same joke a hundred times it'll be different every time. Idk why this needs explanation but think of it like wrestling. How many times has undertaker and Shawn Michaels had a match? By your logic they should've had bad blood 97 HIAC kane's debut and because it's memorable never wrestled again.... Rematch or re told joke just different forms of storytelling but still stories and just look at the Bible people love regurgitating the same stories over and over and over again.
If you're reading this why not check out Wiki Weekends, the second channel I run with Lucas - www.youtube.com/@wikiweekends
- Karl
What is the outro song for this video? As the link in the description is the regular Two Finger Johnny track.

I remember the episode of Citation Needed with Tom Scott and the rest on this. I miss citation needed.
I assume they did the mad jack and the briefcase as the lateral thinking section? (I don't watch full podcasts but watch segment on tiktok)

I am so fucking happy to see this character and your take on it... 😁
I'm having a Mandela effect moment here, I swear you talked about the briefcase story before.

9:14 missions were just "Churchill et al." 😭
As a chef we bullshit a ton when cooking. I often get fun conversation starters from your videos
I love this channel

Karls got that Peter Petrelli season 2 haircut
How did random fact channels not talk about the frisbeeing his briefcase? That’s my favorite part of his story
0:58 I genuinely have never heard of this person. Though if I did at one point, I must have forgotten about it.

I have told other people your facts for the videos but always mention you all as a source
If you come for the Sultan of Facts then you best have sources
What song is that playing at the end ?
upload yay
