Sassolungo - il gigante delle saghe

Sassolungo is an icon of the Dolomites, stone-turned giant from ladin myths and legends. Our hike led at the feet of Sassolungo and Sasso Piatto from Passo Sella to Rifugio Sandro Pertini. It is highly recommendable to extend the hike to Malga Sasso Piatta and Rifugio Sasso Piatto and then half-around the mountain via Rifugio Vicenza and Rifugio Toni Demetz through Forcella Sassolungo back to Passo Sella.
We kept it short just enjoying the scenery and view down Val di Fassa and to Catinaccio and Denti di Terrarossa - and some flying time. Rifugi closed, larch trees golden, perparation of the ski season on-going.
Please, only go to the mountains well equipped - especially to the Dolomites. And, please, respect no fly zones.
